The girl had a knife and was in the act of trying to stab another girl when she was shot. Looks like a good shoot to me, but given the timing and the races of the parties involved, I'm sure some people will try to make some hay out of it.

Here's the video the PD released (in record time). The relevant portion is at 9:55.



It looks like they're trying hard to get the word out before the riots break out.

ETA: it takes a special kind of stupid to try to stab people right in front of the cops.

 

I was just reading about this on another site. Do you think your first impressions of this case would be the same if the races of the parties were switched around?

 

If this is a question for me then the answer is "yes". As a rule of thumb, people (of any race) shouldn't be trying to stab other people. When they do, they might face adverse consequences, especially if they choose to do it right in front of the police.

 

W.T.H. So there's a group of people literally standing around while the cop pulls up, gets out of his car and walks up to them, when two of the group decide now is the time to begin assaulting two others, one with a knife and the other by drop kicking someone in the head. Its like the presence of the cop switched on 'attack mode' or something. I don't get it.

 

I read the title and narrative on Reddit and was appalled and then watched the video. The girl was clearly on the down swing with a knife in her hand — had she made contact injury or death would have resulted.

The officer could have probably used a taser but when faced with watching someone in the act of attempting gracious injury on another person, lethal force is warranted.

Watch the video slowed down and see if that changes your mind.

 

I have heard about some police departments partnering with local mental health services in a bid to get these kinds of incidents under more appropriate control versus the shooting and violence we sometimes see against civilians who are already upset before the cops arrive. I don't know if that would have helped in this particular case but I'm getting burnt out on all the mass shootings and police shootings.

 

My first impression would be the same, but at least if they were all white it would not be national news and I could openly say how stupid they all are and nobody would get triggered by that. As other posters have pointed a potentially deadly weapon was at play, and the situation turned chaotic as soon as the officer arrived. He saved someone from getting stabbed.

 

I didn't watch the video. I won't watch it. I'll take your word for it.

My question posed to @HurricaneDitka was that some people don't care about the details of these kind of events and just jump on the race issue. I understand why that's important but it should be the ONLY rationale behind deciding if a person is wrong or not wrong. If we are truly "equal" (I know we're not), race shouldn't be a factor. Sadly, it too often is though.

I haven't been keeping count but I think I've heard about a mass shooting or cop shooting every day for about two weeks. I don't watch the news (too depressing) but hear about these incidents online anyway.

What do you think the media gains by reporting these incidents when the cop and the shooting victim are different races?

Money(views) as it is a hot trending topic right now. People care and in general know right from wrong, the courts should properly handle any errors on the police departments part and bring justice for victims of police error or brutality. Whites, Hispanics, Asians ect. get shot by the police to, I just don't think those demo-graphs will be as triggered or even care unless the error or brutality is blatant and malicious. In other words they wont keep clicking the story and whats happening involving it daily.

Then, obviously, it is a good shoot.

 

I don't generally watch the news but I hear about big stories because I'm a member on several forums. I honestly haven't been paying attention at how often this happens (the widespread reporting) happens with various ethnic groups but plan to be more mindful of that.

 

She was in the act of trying to stab someone. No more angry fat aggression for her. The parents can try again and see if in 15 years they did a little better.

Not a bad attempt at getting rich though? For a lot of people it can be a windfall in an otherwise miserable and dead end life. But get a cop to shoot you on camera and hope the MSM gets behind you? Think about the money and fame you could get. What have you got to lose?

 

I don’t think the cops had any choice in this case. They did the right thing by shooting. Why someone would be trying to stab someone in the presence of police is beyond me, unless they were trying to commit suicide by police. Very unfortunate though. Seems the world is slowly going mad.

 

The only differences would be that it would not be in the national spotlight and only covered locally and everyone would feel it was a justified shoot as the officer potentially saved multiple lives. Unfortunately, this officer will probably be scorned for the rest of his life for protecting others. I surely hope the family of the girl he saves comes to the officers defense.

Because she had a lethal weapon and was attempting to murder another person? I'm fairly sure the girl whom was about to get a knife in the throat would NOT object to the actions of the officer, as he probably saved her life.

 

How do you know she intended murder? She doesn't exactly look like a Ninja Girl. Maybe she just intended to slice and dice?
