The amount of equipment at their disposal is unclear, but multiple pictures online show jubilant Taliban fighters posing with captured armoured Humvees, aircraft and weapons abandoned by the defeated US-equipped Afghan national army.
    end snip

with training being provided by Pakistan, these Taliban special forces are a formidable force when combined with modern, American weaponry.

I am not as wise as our Democrat elected officials but perhaps we struck up an alliance with the Taliban? Maybe we agreed to let them behead and rape detractors and provide weapons to them in exchange for them maintaining the region? Who knows. My uneducated self cannot see any positive from what has happened but I did not vote Democrat.

Why are you promoting Taliban propaganda (and yes, that is also a question for France24)?

You are of course aware that the deal with t Taliban was made by the previous US administration, with the outcome carried out (albeit delayed) by the current one. There is no good reason to make this a Democrat vs Republican thing (there rarely is).

History shows us that democrats aren't above alliances with organized crime. Gosh, and now there's a new thing called terrorism. Seems, well... inevitable....

    huh?

I read push back from Democrat voters such as yourself that the Taliban won't know how to use or maintain the equipment. Let's be honest here Joe, it seems that with training from Pakistan, the Taliban will make good use of our weaponry

Democrat votes have consequences. You own your Democrat vote

This is a Democrat thing whether you like it or not. Biden and Democrat politicians and their donors are what they've always been. Democrat voters put them in power.

Hopefully they left trackers in any vehicle they left behind. It will make it easier to locate them and blast them into tiny little pieces along with any occupants within.

China will provide all necessary replacement parts when necessary, since most of the manufacturing including weaponry already outsourced from US to China.

All the more reason why we should implement sanctions on China. Where's the UN when you really need it?

We should never need it. It works against the U.S. and always has.

I guess it also puzzled Trump. I wonder how long it will be before other member Nations stop giving their fair share now that Trump isn't around to threaten them.

Hopefully most of them. The UN is useless and time consuming. It should go away.

I have never heard Pakistan is training Taliban until now. What is the source of this information?

Geesh, it almost seems like all this was intentional, like it was a pretext to let the Taliban take over and give them high tech American weapons.

Whether this is conceivably possible and for what ends, I don't know.

We know the Obama Administration, under secretary of state Hillary, was arming "moderate" radical terrorist muslims, supposedly to fight ISIL but more likely to try to topple the Syrian Assad government.
They also sent weapons to terrorist groups in Libya, some of them were Islamic militias who would have wanted to institute Sharia law.
I'm just saying, the government is not above arming terrorists.

The previous administration "deal" was based on quid pro quo... "once you have done THIS... we will do THAT". One of the first conditions was that the Taliban work out a ceasefire with Afghan forces. That never happened, rendering the rest of the "deal made with Trump irrelevant. Biden had no reason to do what he did.

thats wrong, most US military equipment are design/made in US, while some are design/made from our allies in EU etc.

thats because economy, no developing country have the manufacture capability of cheap goods/supply chain as china. They are also 3rd importer of US goods, + one of the largest customer for US company such as boeing/ford/gm/intel/google/microsoft/telsa/kfc etc etc
Trump put tariff on china, yet the deficit gap between china & US are getting wider. No one want to pay double/thrice the price of everything + potential shortage of goods etc etc. dont forget company spend trillions upon trillions invest in china over the decades, they are not gonna want to lose that investment.

here is study on US-China Trade by US chamber of commerce (note its study of 4 sector, in reality there are hundreds industry sector that can be affected). in a nutshell decouple hurt both US and China, and its complicated.

Thanks for the article. While it points out the difficulties of decoupling from China my personal opinion is that it is worth the effort and costs to do so.

I agree. With help from Pakistan, they will learn how to operate the humvees. They can drive around and feel the wind in their beards.

Yes, that's what the 'peace deal' of 2020 was all about. It specifically promised Taliban a seat at the table.

It happened in a heartbeat. MUCH faster than anyone expected. The Afghans and the Taliban are now one and the same.
