They also let me know when the feeder needs tending. I like the way the tail feathers flair when they are being aggressive. And of course the hmmm.

They are one of my favorite birds to watch. I saw one of them buzzing some of the flowers in the little patch of wildflowers we planted. It gave me more incouragement to plant more and more wildflowers. My abandoned goat pen has a bunch of goldenrods growing in one spot. [IMG]

I think mine are leaving for the winter. I guess I'll watch the redbirds and the other larger birds we have around. My wife spotted a redhead woodpecker not long ago.

You and your family might have bonded with the little hummingbird. I do believe things like that happen. I kept putting this small fledgling mockingbird back into its nest. For awhile after that when we were outside a mockingbird would follow us around. He would follow us when we rode around on the Gator. I don’t know if it was that mockingbird but I wanted to believe it was him. The following went on for quite awhile.

I am just glad I didn't have to watch it die. A Hummingbird is like a creature of fantasy to me. At least the closest thing we have to a fantasy bird here in Alabama. I am very taken with them.

Bought a couple end of season half off butterfly bushes today. Hopefully they will have time to get good roots going before old man winter sets in. Next week is our normal first frost date and it is supposed to be almost 90 this friday and saturday

They make a good emoji for dead cousin's funeral :icon_shithappens: :icon_shithitsthefan Glad I sit in a different limb of the tree. On the plus side, after today, I really probably won't see any of them again, at least any time soon. Too much drama amongst that lane of the gene pool.

Google hummingbirds in Texas. Texans seem to be taken with them also.

It was a memory of mocking worth remembering. I love that memory. Memories made, memories kept.
Another memory is the time we saw the Mother quail and her babies. She stood in front of those tiny little babies till everyone of them were safe in the underbrush. She had our attention because we didn’t move an inch. She was awesome!!!

Kingfishers are probably the prettiest birds we get around here.
Usually you just hear a beep and see a blue flash as it flies past but occasionally you get to see one sitting on a perch over the water looking for a fish to catch.
Always lifts my heart to see one.

I am an idiot. I know I am an idiot. I am doubling down on my idiocy. Tripling down in fact. I am cutting off my nose to spite my face.

Anyway, these are the things I tell myself about my latest landscaping project. I planted two trees where I didn't really want them to hide two stumps from trees I had to have cut down. Then I added a third tree in the middle and then I added two bushes on the other side of the latest tree and now I am adding bulbs under the whole lot of it. It looks stupid to have a long line of landscaping parallel to the front of my house about 10 feet from the house but here I am adding even more to it.

That's a gorgeous photo... the buzzles must love you!

We have one Hummer left. The others left at least two weeks ago, but this one is still hanging around. I hope her biological clock kicks in soon before it's too cold for her to make it somewhere warmer for the winter.

Uh oh. Fix it now, before it's expensive and time consuming to fix it later. Don't know the types of trees, but 3 trees in a 10' span is going to be a problem in no time 'atall.... besides stealing nutrients from each other, you are going to have some root issues.

    Colorful! How big are they?

The hummers here will fly so close they'll part your hair, and when in full territorial mode, they'll use humans as a block as they come zooming through and dodge at last moment, with Enemy #1 hot on their tail...

Bigger than Hummers, so the wind drag would be rather noticeable, lol.

I hope next year will be a better year for flowers, birds, bumble bees and butterflies.
Are you getting cooler weather? We have a few dips in the temp they don't last long. This week end is supposed to be a bit cooler according to a radio weather person. This type of weather wants me to pack up and find snow.. Then I think of all the problems traveling presents and change my mind. I miss traveling.

Hey Guys My wife and I are planning another trip (2nd one) to the states. We would like to drop into NY then onto Niagara. Then onto the Rockies and Zion national park in particular. And suggestions how we get from Buffalo to the area?
We can get flights to Vegas or Denver, but both are still a considerable distance from Zion.
I heard you guy fly everywhere and there are dozens of little airports listed, but I can't see anyway to find out where they fly from and too?
    Thanks. Tigger.
