I know of few good executives who work part time. And this is not a CEO job, it is a vital position in the United States Government, why did he accept the position knowing he would want to take off for 3 months. What if a war started and the Secretary of Defense announced he was taking 3 months paternity leave instead of being on the front lines leading or efforts to defend ourselves? Any President with any balls would demand his resignation. Why didn't Biden do so with Mayor Pete so he could put someone in that position who could be ON THE JOB and hold the meetings and travel to the areas and meet with those people and SOLVE THE PROBLEM?

His paternity leave - while you oppose it - is part of the family leave platform that the Dems advocate and have passed. The fact that it didn't exist when you had kids doesn't mean it shouldn't be happening. Are you against progress in general, or just when it comes to Dem policy?

Is the entire country waiting for a solution while he is on leave? He is the head of a team/department. They are at work on the issue and he is "available 24/7 on issues that can't wait, issues that can't be delegated and major decisions." He said he stayed involved in supply chain issues.

How does Pete Buttigieg wanting to be with his child out weigh the current transportation crisis? Why does the ENTIRE country have wait until he has bonded with his child to get something done about this? If he has such a desire to be with the child then resign the post so someone else who can actually manage the job can step in. He has no RIGHT to that position in our government. Biden could dismiss him at a moments notice, why didn't he 8 weeks ago call him in and ask for his resignation if he was not going to be able to do the job and appoint someone who could?

And sorry if I don't take his weak claim that he went online sometimes as a mitigating statement for his absence in the job that is VITAL at this point.

Why didn't resign the position so someone could come in and run the department, they didn't even appoint an ACTING secretary.

If he is available for meetings (he attended one with Biden last Wednesday) and has been available for zoom meetings, why is his PHYSICAL presence necessary? In 2021?

A week maybe, but in a CRISIS in the area of their department and for 12 weeks................that is absurd and Biden should have told him to submit his resignation that he had no confidence he could handle the job working from home as he tended his child.
