Five of the nation’s top ice scientists found themselves in a conundrum.

They’d been tasked with a formidable job: reviewing candidates for the American Geophysical Union’s fellows program, the most prestigious award given by the world’s largest earth and space science society. But when the group looked at its list of candidates, all nominated by peers, it spotted a problem.

Every nominee on the list was a white man.

“That was kind of a bit of a showstopper for me,” said Helen Fricker, a glaciologist at Scripps Institution of Oceanography and one of the five committee members.

“We are disappointed that there were fewer women and fewer individuals from international countries nominated and awarded in 2021,” AGU said in a statement last month, shortly after announcing the new class of fellows. “For the first time ever, one Section chose not to advance any of their Sections’ nominees to the Union Fellows Committee for consideration. The Section felt that this was their only course of action due to a lack of diversity in the nomination pool.”

 

I would say the AGU has lost all credibility and their award will be valueless. Reminds me of the Nobel Peace Prize.

 

This gives more credit the my theory that there is a conspiracy at the highest levels to to put sites like the Onion and Babylon Bee out of business.

 

It is utterly ludicrous that any position be determined by any reason other than the meritocracy of the candidate.
"Diversity" should mean only open doors- not quotas. Nothing is improved by including unqualified people for any reason- only damage results from that. It's destroying the quality standard to appease a social concept with no value.
Makes as much sense as hiring an unqualified person as an airplane pilot because of minority or racial status.. And you are a passenger.

 

When a group declines to acknowledge merit because of their skin color, they pretty much have shown where their priorities lie.

It should not matter what color their skin is, and they have done a serious disservice to those who have achieved notice in their field. At that point, their award is valueless except as bird cage liner.

 

I thought for sure the title was going to be an exaggeration ...but nope! things really are getting that ridiculous.

Since this the American Geophysical Union, I assume they mean people born "somewhere besides america"

 

And we are suppose to trust the science? Science just told us decisions are made based on race and gender.. To hell with facts and data.

 

Could it be those nominating are only familiar with what their immediate colleagues are doing and not those around the world in similar fields.??

 

If they are an 'award', is not their job to find out that information?

 

All this race stuff is so stupid. What does the race of the scientists have to do with anything?

 

Yes, it's crazy. You can't even make even write satire, because the Democrats make the ludicrous joke become their reality.

The Babylon Bee could have written a satirical cartoon showing Biden promoting policies which will fire health care workers during a pandemic, fire police officers during crime wave, and fire truckers during a supply shortage, except that Biden is promoting those very policies, and telling reporters those people should be fired.

 

I know, right. I cannot wrap my head around the reasoning behind the actions of these people, I just don't think like they do.

Are they simply racists who hate white people? I'm not sure, since some of these lunatics look to be white themselves. Or are they of the same minds of blacks who sold other blacks into slavery? Or are they so mentally unbalanced, that committing reprehensible acts like these are what make them feel good inside?

Any way I look at this, they seem to be selfish people, who are fulfilling some inner need. Somehow, trashing white people like this gives these people a feeling of joy and self fulfillment. They love all the public adoration, back slaps and attaboys that being woke provides for them. just like the wannabe KKK gang banger likes all the attention he gets for hurting innocent people. Being accepted into the club has it own rewards, and they are selfish, but fulfilling for the people who feel that their lives are empty and meaningless otherwise.

 

Weak people, people who can't find their own identity or values, who black the self-discipline and personal responsibility to develop those things, seek to find identity in the criticism of others. Sometimes of everything. The whole system is wrong and evil, because it's not making me important, making a place for me- so I reject it all. The world is wrong, I'm right. Problem solved. I'm important. It's a trip outside the parameters of logic, and that is a very difficult place for a logical person to imagine. Regardless, what people do tells us who they are. Believe that they believe it.

 

So some guy somewhere was denied an award he was qualified for because he didn't have a vagina. Well, in a country that selects our VP because she DOES have a vagina (combined with the "proper" skin color), does that come as that big of a surprise?

 

These people suffer from a mental disorder, a type of sickness. The only way it can continue on like this, is if they only surround themselves with other people suffering the same sickness as they.
