The question has been bubbling beneath the surface of Boston's historic mayor's race, where one of the two candidates, Annissa Essaibi George, has found herself challenged on the campaign trail about her decision to identify as one. On Tuesday, Essaibi George faces off against fellow Boston City Councilor and Democrat Michelle Wu, a daughter of Taiwanese immigrants. Whoever wins will be the first woman and first person of color elected to the city's top political office. Essaibi George, who describes herself as Polish-Arab American . . . Moi Supports Michelle Wu! Asian babes And they be of color. Moi
Sometimes we have to be told who is of color. Had no idea Kamala Harris and Meghan Markle was people of color until I was told....over and over...that they were.
The census bureau describes Arabs as white, so...they're white. Danny Thomas was white and his daughter, Marlo Thomas, is white. They are not "people of color."
Arabs are neither Mongoloid (East Asian) nor Negroid (Negro), so, because they aren't indigenous to anywhere in the Western Hemisphere or Australia, that leaves Caucasoid ("White").
By definition, neither white nor black is a color! Both are defined as "shades". There are, of course, three main races (some researchers say five or even six!), but, yes, people do come in many different 'colors'... typically seen in varieties that go from white, to yellow, to brown, and finally, to black.
I remember when all this race stuff kicked off years ago and one of the first stupid things was to call a black person, "A person of colour". This black guy was being interviewed on the news and he said, "I ain't a person of colour, I'm black, even white is a colour, everyone is a colour". He hit the nail on the head.
It prolly depends on whether they vote democrat or not. Or, as Biden put it- "If you don't vote for me, you aint black!"
People started making up all this grandiloquent-sounding crap because American Negroes began feeling "offended" at being referred to as Negroes. Now they're offended at being referred to as anything other than "Blacks"-- which is strange, because I can easily remember when they were very offended at being referred to as "Blacks".... After awhile it all just seems to be manifestations of some kind of unfortunate inferiority complex....
Anwar Sadat, assassinated President of Egypt has some blood of sub Sahara Africa and was called a poodle by Nasser. "his mother, Sit Al-Berain, was Sudanese from her father." says Wiki Moi
To be fair, if you looked at the skin of Colin Powell, it was much closer of any ethnic european than any ethnic subsaharian african. In fact he was much paler/whiter than most of people who got a black parent and a white parent than I know. The american defintion of ethnic groups are a lot defined by the "one drop" rule. Considering Essaibi George, she is whiter than a lot of Italians.
Depends really , it goes by region . I’ve seen arabs that look just as white as any caucasian person , but there are dark ones as well obviously .
Just out of curiosity, does anyone ever refer to East-Asians ("Oriental") persons as "people of color"...? Additionally, has anyone ever referred to Latin Americans (Mexicans, Central Americans, South Americans) as "people of color"...? If so, I have certainly never heard it. As I've said, we have all colors spread out over somewhere between three and six different races -- and yet the term "people of color" seems to apply only to those that are Negro or Negro-Mulatto.
In what way does it matter....THEY'RE BOTH DEMOCRATS....The Party of race, race, race,....who needs satirists, the Democrats have a lock on that.
Nope, I've heard Latin Americans and East Asians referred to as people of color. Hell, I read a review in which Anya Taylor Joy was described as a person of color. Why you may ask? Because one parent is from Argentina, a "whiter" country than the US. POC refers to the entire planet except for the small percentage who are "white."
Well, hell... compared to her I'm dark as dusk. So, does that mean that I can go get on the perpetually- 'discriminated-against' welfare gravy train now...? I've always wondered what that's like!
No, you can be blond haired and blue eyed if you are Latin, but if not, you are just another white guy. Which reminds me of another Latin who hates white people...Jorge Ramos. This guy is so white he could join the SS yet he is always railing against white people. Now that's real white privilege right there.
Hmm... more than a few of the SS went to Argentina after the war... just sayin'.... Man, that chick is almost as white as alabaster....
I can speak enough Norteño Tex-Mex to pass for being a minority... Here's a video me and some of my buds made a while back. I'm the one with the most horrible hat... Gotta give it about 30 seconds to get started....
I think Arabs and most Middle Easterners fall into a vague in-between zone. This idea of "people of color" has always been a kind of inexact concept. It's a general concept that doesn't really account for many specific types of cases. It can be hard to always apply simple classifications when there are so many different groups of people in the world. There are many Arabs that are about as pale in skin color as most white people, but they still look Arab in other ways. So it's not really "all about skin color".
They are Caucasians. That is not "of color" although I am one too and I have color. What Race Do Arabs Belong To? By Staff WriterLast Updated March 25, 2020 According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Arabs are counted as white. A person whose ancestors were indigenous to Europe, the Middle East or North Africa is considered white for census purposes. https://www.reference.com/world-view/race-arabs-belong-68c41db464f61d2d
We have white students applying to colleges claiming they are a poc as so that they don't get discriminated against. So what do you think? I have a friend from Lebanon who's whiter than I am and he says he's not white...the amount of negative social stigma to straight white men is ridiculous.
So, in your world, a person can't be proud of their heritage and identify themselves the way they choose to or it automatically means they hate <whatever group of people>? At least you are consistently <censoring myself>.
Person of color is progressive dog whistle for anyone who is not white. On a slightly related side note I love it when progressive tell us that Muslim is a race.
