Bodies pile up outside hospital morgue as Romania struggles with fourth wave of Covid

Bucharest, Romania (CNN)"It's relentless -- relentless," sighed nurse Claudiu Ionita, standing in front of a line of gurneys in Bucharest University Hospital's morgue. On each gurney lay a body inside a black plastic bag.

The morgue has a capacity for 15 bodies, but on the day CNN visited, it had received 41. The excess bodies filled the corridor outside, while wails echoed from within the morgue. A woman had been allowed inside for a final glimpse of her father.

Bucharest University Hospital is the Romanian capital's largest medical facility treating Covid-19 patients and is struggling through the country's fourth wave, its worst yet.

"I never thought, when I started this job, that I would live through something like this," said Ionita. "I never thought such a catastrophe could happen, that we'd end up sending whole families to their graves."

You can see how modern mass communication and the democratization of it by the internet is a double-edged sword. While it serves to disseminate accurate information very rapidly and give a voice to practically everyone, this also leads to lies and misinformation often drowning out that good information, leading to people dying unnecessarily because they refuse to be vaccinated.

I have to wonder what our ancestors would think if they saw all of this. They had to endure pandemics without the benefit of vaccines. They saw people die by the millions for lack of sufficient knowledge and technology to treat such diseases. Now, even as we have these things, millions are duped by lies and misinformation from sources they just shouldn't be listening to, but who have an online megaphone and a televised megaphone, especially when they get into politics as this crazy blond Romanian MP has done. She is like a tubby Romanian Marjorie Taylor Greene.

This story can't be real. I'm reliably informed by the cons and anti-vaxxers here in the US that COVID is:

    fake
    like the flu
    kills only 0.02 %
better to catch so as to create herd/natural immunity

Bulgaria and Romania break records for daily COVID-19 deaths

Over the previous 24 hours, 310 people died in Bulgaria and 591 in Romania — the highest one-day death tolls recorded in both countries since the beginning of the pandemic.

The two eastern EU countries have the bloc's lowest vaccination rates.
According to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), just 25.5% of Bulgaria's adults are fully vaccinated, rising to 37.2% in Romania. This is well below the 75.2% average for the EU/EEA.
Sofia has reported the loss of 24,309 lives since the beginning of the pandemic with 608,499 infections also confirmed among the country's 6.9 million population.

I wonder of the Bulgarian and Romanian health authorities are as dishonest as the CDC?

The article did not say anything about the inoculation status of the deceased and diseased, but the article is CNN and thus typical propaganda.

Not announcing the percentage of the sick and dead who've taken the shots would keep the secret, if that's the case.
