Weekly jobless claims post stunning decline to 199,000 the lowest level since 1969

The ranks of those submitting jobless claims tumbled to their lowest level in more than 52 years last week, the Labor Department reported Wednesday.

New filings totaled 199,000, a number not seen since Nov. 15, 1969, when claims totaled 197,000. The report easily beat Dow Jones estimates of 260,000 and was well below the previous week’s 270,000.

Does Joe get any credit for this from The Following as Trump would? Probably not. Despite his vaccine/mask policies being at least in part responsible for the continuing strength of the recovery.

Had the MAGA god presided over this number he'd be on his megaphone proclaiming he has the best recovery ever. The greatest economy ever. Taking full credit.

This means nothing. The big picture is that work force participation has only gained half of what it lost in the pandemic. It’s holding there as well. Women are actually a large part of the work force not returning. In some ways this is good because it will drive up wages. In some cases it’s bad because it adds to the inflation mix.

 

Large farms do. Small farmers can’t afford to hire too much help.

 

Last year at this time there were 21 million unemployment insurance claims before the Thanksgiving holiday. Today, there were 2.4 million.

 

Which Biden policy resulted in people not looking for jobs? Which Biden policy kept the civilian labor force participation rate at less than 62%? If you can answer these simple questions, the next will be why people who have the most visible stake in the economy, investors, are not impressed.

 

The Trump vaccines, while not perfect, cleared the way for Blue States to be forced to finally get to work.

We have millions of jobs going begging for someone qualified to apply for them. we have over 100 million working age Americans sitting on the sidelines.
