    Two things about this.

1: SOUNDS like a good idea. Provided that is ALL that it does and will ever do and that it is accurate. But it does bring to mind just how much should driving be regulated?

2: This is the kind of thing that it would have been nice to know about when it was passed. What other things were passed in it that we don't know about? When I commented on this infrastructure plan this is what I was talking about. What all is in it? They obviously were not telling The People everything that was in it. Yet all that people ever did was tell me to go read the bill. Which is nothing more than a cop out. More than likely because they themselves don't even know everything that's in the bill. And they still don't. Because really, what regular American is going to take the time to read a bill that has over 2700 pages, all written in legalese? Most regular books don't even have that many pages (the largest I've ever read was around 1500 pages). About the only ones that will read it in whole are lawyers and maybe a few hundred enthusiasts.

So.... when do they put in a pot and prescription drugs detector, or are they saving THAT for the next pork barrel parade? Sounds like a garage owners dream, not bypassing them, FIXING THEM. :roflol:

I doubt theres anyone anywhere that knows all of whats in these thousands page bills. The people writing them only care that their paragraph is included, the people voting on them just want their campain contributions and We The People just vote for whatever D or R tells us.

And that is a problem imo. It shouldn't take a hundred lawyers for We The People to know what laws we have on the books.

And bills shouldn't be packed full of buried provisions that should have been debated over their individual merits either!!!

And they had the nerve to call Trump the authoritarian.....

Vote for Democrats if you hate freedom.

Just one more step towards a totalitarian police state. And you're all right there's probably only a handful of Democrats that actually know what's in the bill and this includes the whole lot of them in Washington.

But we sure have the faithful here who tell us this bill is just great and it's going to save the planet and save a bunch of money and puppies are going to be happy and kittens are going to be warm...

as soon as people cars won't move for faulty reasons because of this, the technology will die

this is just one more thing to break and prob cost $1000 or more to fix each time

lot of great stuff in the bill, but the anti-smokers, anti-drinkers, ect always try to push stuff in that no one wants

republicans voted for the bill, so they supported it

wonder how many congress people on both sides, voting for it or not, invested in companies that make this stuff, before the public knew - for anyone else that would be insider trading

Our system needs an overhaul. Any bill should be one page and easily understandable by any Junior in HS. The name of the bill should be the title. Anything in the bill must be 100% related to the bill's title.

I'm so flippin' sick of this carp.

And what is wrong with people wanting to stop the murder of GOD's children via abortion? You ever hear of the word adoption? Any pregnant woman due to a rape that doesn't want to conceive her child will always have the option of giving their baby up for adoption. There's a long line of people just waiting to adopt and to pay to have a child that they themselves for whatever reason are unable to have.

The vast majority of auto accidents are caused by sober drivers. So what they really need is a blow test for stupid and reckless. All that this system will do is strand countless good drivers to keep the occasional drunk from driving. Meanwhile the sobers will be playing bumper cars madly and all about on our roads and highways. Bunch of condescending nonsense. Heck, why not make driving illegal. That'd prevent most all auto accidents if prevention is the goal. But why shelve self righteous royalty when you can lord it over the common man for the cause of order. This is a case of drunken sobriety actually. What is needed is a monitor that would fine you for excessive speed and tailgating, with a digital display on the dash tallying up your fines which would be automatically subtracted from your bank account. This would sober up everyone right quick. Call it, pay to drive.

And how long before some smart aleck invents a jumper wire to sell on the internet that will over-ride any alcohol detection devise in a vehicle?

So this is one more thing I have to pay for that doesn't apply to me. I don't drink.

I don't know how this works but if I have to breathe into my car in order for it to start, I think that's going a little too far.

This will cause already high car prices to increase. This will have a minimal effect of tragedy and a high effect on consumer burden.

secondly, where will all this tech lead. I definitely see a future when all cars are connected to the internet for safety. If you speed you’ll have a message pop up on your drivers display or the radio area informing you that you got a ticket. You’ll likely be tracked everywhere you go. You’ll be taxed this way in your electric cars. States will probably have their own taxes that you’ll have to pay as well if you go to other states. I’m not a fan of all this tech

I’m not opposed to this idea. Lots of unnecessary deaths due to drunk driving. I see lots where this could go wrong though. Like I’m sure within one week of it all kinds of devices will be out that fool the car into thinking you have a lower alcohol level. I think what would make more sense is for bars to have breathalyzers for people driving, not the cars

Could be wrong here, but aren't there health conditions, like diabetes, that can produce a false positive on a breathalyzer?

It won’t take long at all. The gizmo will be tied to the car’s computer and the computer will be reprogrammed.

If this system is successful in weeding out only those who are drunk. Then I would say there should be a fine or penalty it a mechanic, dealership or private sale discovers this gizmo in your car
