Has anyone been to El Paso? Drinking and driving is a Mexican Olympic sport and they are the gold medal winners year after year. This law is going leave a lot of Mexicans stranded on the road.

They have fines for mechanics who bypass California’s smog checks, but they still do it.

Brought to you by the lobbyists for UBER. I wonder who got the biggest kickback?

Leave it to the politicians on how to punish law abiding citizens with more red tape. Next you'll have to have your doctor or an EMT start your car for you.
The best way to deal with drunken drivers is to severely punish them, and I mean severely. Suppose it was a mandatory 10 years in jail for the first time? Then caught again you get life. That would only affect the drunks and leave us non-drinkers alone.

Just had a case in my area recently where someone got arrested for DUI, went to court, the court slapped them on the wrist, and that very same day this person killed people while driving drunk.

There are many people who do not drink at all who shouldn't have to breathe into their car before it will start. That's just ridiculous.

I'm guessing you've never driven a car with an interlock system or driven with someone who does.
They're not very accurate devices and they need fairly regular calibration or they're even worse. False positives are a thing. Say goodbye to listerine.

Ya sure. But it's better having such systems than not.

People still drive without a seatbelt. But we keep putting seatbelts in cars

And what happens if you had some mouthwash that morning and it detects alcohol? Or some other stupid false positive like that? You're SOL to drive? what a ridiculous bill, this is gonna be nothing but a pain in everyone's ass.

We should make it a law that a bill has a max word limit. I personally would set it around 10 minutes to read. Longer than that, and it'll have to pass as multiple bills. But it aint gonna happen for the same reason we'll never simplify the tax code- laws and taxes are only for the commonfolk who can't afford their own army of lawyers.

Ya I'd love for it to work, but all my jaded ass sees is it breaking down and costing a couple grand to fix.

I don't know the details of course, but I'm assuming it measure blood alcohol levels - mouthwash isn't going to make you blow over that level.

I'm not aware of a seatbelt system that prevents you from starting the vehicle if you don't buckle up.

This is going too far, why alcohol only??can it also detect the myriad of other substances which can impair? How about a vision test? A fever test to ensure you are not driving while sick? What about an EKG, oxygen level test to ensure you aren’t in a bad state physically? How about an anti-speed system which will lock in your speed when it detects you are going over zone speed limit? How about break systems that detect when it’s a red light and prevents you from stepping on gas until it turns green? How about a magnet system which makes cars repel when they get too close, as to avoid crashes??

    Solution. Don't vote for D or R.

Or vote out your incumbent each and every election cycle.

We the people can take back government.

Wont even need to go that far. Every road has a speed limit. Any map app registers your speed. Basic syncing and your car is limited to whatever the speed limit is. The tech is there. Once every car on the road is “smart enabled”, All we need are more Democrats to sign that **** into law. Won’t it be fantastic:)

Not everyone has the same god.
    Or the same rules.

You live your God rules and let others live their god rules.

While this sounds good on the surface, there must be some kind of an emergency override. There should also be a way to disable the system - what if you are a farmer and buying a vehicle meant to be used only on your farm?

I'm more than willing to invite other godly views on their reasoning or on their religious ideology that feels its okay to take or murder the life of our unborn. Care to share your views on this subject--be them religious or godly or whatever?

Yeah but we don't put the onus for our recklessness on those who have a drink every now and then.

So much for "my body, my choice". Oh, and it's a legal activity to start with. I'd have serious reservations allowing any car manufacturer to collect real biometric information about me. I don't see these manufacturers as having sufficient security in place to allow them to collect that kind of information.
