Since you did not come back to confirm or deny if this message was intended for me, I will assume it is.

1. I don't typically report posters. I'm not 6 years old and I'm able to converse with people with whom I disagree. The moderators probably will not tell who reported you but they might confirm that it wasn't me. Almost every time I report something, it's my own post in which I may have posted the wrong link, messed up the quoting or someone has told me that my post hurt their feelings. Ask. Maybe the moderators will confirm that as well.

2. If you look at my posting history, you will find that I get called "stupid" (and other garbage) about once a month. All those posts still exist, but, if they don't, it's NOT because I reported the person. It's more fun to let people show themselves for who they really are. I let that stuff stand and other people's labels for me have no bearing on my self-esteem at all.

3. Maybe it makes sense to you, but it doesn't make sense to me. Did you pause for a split second to consider the fact that if *I* was the one who reported you, I would not want to "out" myself by politely asking you to stop being rude. People that like the report button like to go stealth. Anybody in this forum can attest to the fact that I'm forthright and honest. And, I try to be kind (but I'm human and there's some wiggle room there for over-the-top hatefulness).

4. Most importantly, I don't play games. I will tell you what I think directly just I did earlier this evening. Furthermore, the only reason to post to someone AND report them implies a level of fear (not being comfortable addressing that openly). I'm not intimidated by you in the least bit so there is no reason I would have to call in the moderators.

I don't agree with most of the things you post, but I vehemently defend your rights to free speech. I didn't ask you not to post your opinion. I asked you to consider doing that without the personal insults. It tends to bode well for open communication.

Y'know, I kinda considered this thread relatively lightweight on things to be upset about Robinette about as I really do believe he doesn't know anyone who is even upper-middle-class and hasn't for a while. But when you consider the efforts that two LW posters have put into derailing the thread and another kerfuffle added in, it makes me wonder if this is a topic that the left takes pretty seriously if so much effort was put in to threadjack it.
