Rep. Boebert apologizes after suggesting Rep. Omar mistaken for a terrorist in Capitol

Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., apologized Friday after video emerged of her suggesting that fellow Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., was mistaken for a terrorist in an elevator both were riding in the U.S. Capitol.
Omar, who is Muslim and wears a hijab, immediately criticized the video Thursday as "bigotry," adding that Boebert's description of the two members of Congress riding an elevator together never occurred.
Boebert, who is known for incendiary rhetoric, appeared in the video to be addressing a group of supporters as she launched into what she said was a “jihad squad” moment at the U.S. Capitol.

It warrants an apology. But Boebert will probably go forward to try to play it off as a bad joke. This is, after all, the same woman who challenged Madison Cawthorn to a sprint. She's an equal-opportunity parasite.

 

Omar is a garbage human, no apology needed tbh. This racist lady hates America.

Which part is being classified as bigotry?

1. Saying the Capitol police looked alarmed and pretend to be psychic to know what he was thinking?
2. The follow-up of "Well, she's not carrying a backpack, so it should be fine."?
3. That she would say this to a group of her supporters to continue Orange Jesus battle cry that this country BELONGS to them?
4. That she made the whole thing up in her head (since Omar said it didn't happen)?
5. That she has so little confidence in her supporters that she has play the "us v. them" card?

Or, all of the above and/or something else I may have missed?

As an aside, I get stopped at airport security 98% of the time and by cops quite a bit. I've been told I "don't look American." I always ask "What does an American look like?" but have yet to receive any rational explanation. I've never been arrested or detained at the airport. It's annoying but I don't have the bandwidth to get annoyed about everything. That doesn't make the list.

I AM much. much more concerned that some of us can't get unstuck from hating people who don't look, love or live the way we think they should. A citizen's Bill of Rights extend to all of us. Why do some people believe theirs is not only the "right" way but force their ideas and ideals onto others?

What's-her-face probably is racist. And? I can think of about 100 of them on my block. They tend to say stupid stuff but, given Orange Jesus' very successful grift, stupid stuff is what their target audience wants to hear.

I completely disagree with the societal pressure to force people to apologize for what they say. I don't mean that people should spout of with reckless abandon but the "fix" actually intensifies the problem. Every single person that has been forced to apologize publicly for stating their opinion won't stop holding their dumb opinions. They will actually dig in deeper propelled by the anger at having to say something the don't want to say.

A forced apology is no better than the original offense. And, all things being as unequal as the are, I'd prefer to know where people really stand. I may not like it but I would know where to draw my hard boundaries instead of having everybody smile in each others' faces while stabbing them in the back. But, I'm a direct person so it doesn't bother me when people speak up. I'd take a painful truth over a pretty lie every day of the week. Again, at least one knows where they stand.

 

Screw Omar. That pirate school dropout insults Jews all the time, in fact, she and her squad members want Israel to disappear. Omar supports terrorists, so calling her a terrorist is fine by me.

 

Racist and idiotic . . . just like when Trump said basically the same thing about Jews.

 

Don't need to go to Maxine Waters when the current President has plenty of a racist past. And yet you still voted for him.

 

When has she ever insulted Jews? And, no, criticizing Israel doesn't count. And how has she supported terrorists?

 

The odds are a lot less than a typical LW-er going into any thread and going "But TRUMP!"

Two times the house voted on resolutions condemning hate speech because of what Omar said. And she supports Palestinian terrorists.

 

I only know of one of those resolutions . . . which condemned anti-Semitism and Islamophobia . . . not Omar . . . and she voted in favor of it. Please quote her supporting Palestinian terrorism.
