There are no 'socialist societies', if by that you mean State Socialism. It's not possible to be collectivist at the nation level. Any nation pretending it is, is merely totalitarian.

Collectivism is practiced at the ground level, not the political level. It's the small holding, in full possession of property and the means of survival, and maintained by shared labour. It works best in a capitalist democracy, but it's been practiced in every culture and politic, for thousands of years.

I see your point and somewhat agree, but I have a question: If a store hires armed security to stop these mob-theft events, are you okay with the armed security doing whatever they need to do to stop the mob and prevent the theft - including deadly force? If not, what should the armed security personnel be allowed to do?

The other issue is that in theory such hit and run robberies would be quite easy to organize and co-ordinate on-line and through word of mouth with professional criminals arranging to purchase all the stolen goods from participants in advance of each 'raid' at one or more agreed prearranged collection points, cash, no questions asked. In fact if this crime type spreads and becomes more common that is almost certainly what will happen. So Detectives may already be reviewing street camera feed and doing a lot of cell phone and other data matching etc behind the scenes looking for commonalities.

Yes all socialism is state socialism and society has to live under it making it a socialist society. I'm finished arguing semantics.

Nothing wrong with co-ops as long as they are actually ground up. That isn't the problem. The problem is government running private enterprise. It never appears ground-up and always survives only under an authoritarianism government. All of the benefit acrues to those in power. I'm sorry I don't use your terminololgy.

I have no problem with armed security guards and I do not think we need any new rules/laws for this case. I am not a legal expert but I would support whatever existing laws we have for use of deadly force in these situations. My general rule is unless we can find something grievously lacking with our current laws we do not need to make new ones.

BUT in my opinion I think the simplest way to stop crimes like I see in the video is have an electronic lock on the door like many jewelry stores where once you are in the store you need security or an employee to buzz you out and simply put long cables on expensive display items. Secure other display items in cases and hire a security person by the door. Make yourself a hard target so they choose someone else. Take responsibility.

You're probably right. But isn’t it a sad state on inner city society that they would need to nail everything down because of a few animals? Won’t take long for this to spread to any store.

Easiest solution is just move someplace safe. Let these areas become the deserts that the people want. If you’re going to treat the stores like your personal free gift shop, no soup for you. Insurance won’t be cheap. Rich people can find other ways to buy what they need. The poor people stealing will just have to learn their lesson when there is no where to obtain any goods or services anymore.

I think it is sad and I empathized with those that a doing the right thing and negatively impacted by this but the bottom line is taxpayers can only do so much. It is up to private business and individuals to bear the burden too. For people living in these neighborhoods you need teach you children to do the right thing. Respect the businesses and private property. This is your neighborhood, if you burn it to the ground don't expect there to be no consequences. Businesses will leave or charge you more. I heard some groups complain that supermarket close down and they have to commute great distances for fresh meat and produce. They complain they are left with having to buy unhealthy foods from small grocery stores. Well stop your neighbors from shoplifting. Shame them and do not encourage the behavior. The culture needs to be changed and taxpayers cannot do that for you.

Culture is the core of it all. No one is teaching these people that you respect those around you. They’re all out for me me me and it shows.

    1) Again, socialism cannot exist at the State level. They can call it whatever they want, but it will still be totalitarianism.

    2) Socialism is ONLY ground up. It can't exist any other way. It can't be compelled by those with greater power (because that is contrary to the entire principal of collectivism), it can only be a decision made by individuals.

Yeah, but what do they mean by 'commute great distances'? I have family connections in their 80's who travel clear across NYC by public transport (takes over 40 minutes) with those shopping trolley bags, to get their cheap fresh produce. I used to drive 90kms for groceries. It's all relative.

Way too many people are just bone lazy. If it's not easy and quick, they won't do it.

I agree but that is my point. More taxpayers money does not fix the culture, if anything it makes it worse. It says you can screw up but someone else will fix it for you.

Try 'no consequences' on a two year old and see what kind of adult you create.

We're ALL hardwired them same way - whether two or sixty. We do best with limits.

I didn’t get to watch the video. Was this another instance of violent white conservatives up to their usual thuggin?

Send in a couple of swat teams with M-4s in hand and deal with it. I think the "looting" will stop across the country relatively quick. Law and order is how it's done.

It's this kind of logic that is absolutely fubar'ing the country.

It will be these same idiots that claim that rioting is a racist term, claiming that liberal policies aren't the cause of cultural and ethical deterioration of urban centers.

How these woke liberals can't connect the dots is beyond me. I think they are willfully ignorant.

They're either stupider than dirt, or it's deliberate.

Since they claim to be 'intelligent and educated', we have to assume it's the latter. I mean, given that exhalted intellect and all.

Well, I suppose a return to turning towns into sundown towns and requiring undesirables to have passes to be in certain areas could be effective. Which city would you like to be the first to institute such policies in the land of the free and the home of the brave?

If thieves are ransacking your neighborhood breaking into homes every night even while they are occupied and doing smash and grabs I have NO DOUBT you would be demanding they send extra patrols into your neighborhood and put a stop to it.

So let's just let the criminals steal everything, that's your answer? Let's all pay double for everything we buy so the thieves can keep stealing?

You think one private security guard is going to stop the smash and grab? Even two or three? Citizens arrest? Has to be a felony remember? And when they shoot and kill someone and the DA charges them with murder what protection do they have?

Here this store has a security guard at the door.

Should he have just opened fire on them, you'd be OK with that?
