you don't need any religion to have ethics. in fact, having ethics and zero invisible friends isn't a bad thing.

Beliefs are in the mind. You can't regulate thought. Flynn is just plain wrong in this.

Thou shalt not steal, thou shalt not murder, perjury, etc. There are principles set forth that can be adhered to. We are a secular government but our founding fathers were not shy about their faith, see the Declaration of Independence. I have not seen evidence that Flynn wants us to move away from a secular government.

That's fine. But we do have a first amendment so limiting religions is plainly unconstitutional.

Yes and a foundational freedom upon which our country was founded. If Flynn in any way suggests to abridge that then I will condemn him vigorously, just haven't seen any evidence of that.

I'm a hard-core economic Conservative who is allergic to everything that the 'woke', hyperliberal faction is trying to do to this country -- BUT -- as a true American Conservative who believes in the SUPREMACY of the U. S. Constitution, I must remind everyone (including Mr. Flynn) that the First Amendment of our Constitution clearly states:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." Now... I think that quite settles it....

That was a really dumb thing to say, reactions are completely predictable:

I mean, if you HAD to pick one Jainism is probably the easiest and least crappy for all around. No magic, so that's a big plus.

Personally, I don't see the OP as a valid Current Events post. An event has significance. This so called story has no significance and belongs in the opinion or religion section of PF. The CNN "story" is an obvious hit piece displaying no relationship to actual journalism. The final sentence "another attempt by a Trump official to undermine democracy" is typical ultra left hyperbole and just an absurd assertion. The previous quoted tweet by their own analyst (Gen Hurting) should be seen as coming from the circular logic school of journalism. That or the self licking ice cream cone school of journalism.

I do not think it’s possible to get all people into one religion peacefully. Having said that, sometimes I wonder if wokeness is the result of absence of a real religion or ideology. Patriotism and capitalism is the ideology of the US, but it is getting smeared by school teachers and liberal arts college instructors from increasingly early age. Maybe, if we were all unified under one ideology or religion, we wouldn’t see so many people on TV who literally have garbage for brains.
I’m an atheist, by the way.
