Lying Gasbag Alec Baldwin Claims Gun Fired Itself.

Oh yunno, that cops should shoot people in the kneecaps, that "assault rifles" fire 800 rounds per minute from a "30 caliber clip," that a barrel shroud is "that shoulder thing that goes up," or from the president himself, "just fire your shotgun through the door" (a felony), that we lose 93 million Americans a day to gun violence, and that piece of **** Hollywood *******s can take weapons handed to them from a propmaster, point them at people on set and hill them.

 

The NRA is racist. Come on man!

 

It was being filmed. If its a revolver, and its cocked, and his finger is on the trigger, then he fired it.

Yet the media will give him cover and spin this to blame firearms and the NRA. And I like your analogy, but I don't think it goes far enough: Your average anti-gunner -- in the bitterest twist of irony -- get the bulk of its firearm "knowledge" from Hollywood and doesn't know a Ranch Rifle from ranch dip.

The NRA wants everyone to have guns regardless of whether they have received gun safety training. The NRA wants the plague of school shootings we have now.

How about making gun ownership and possession contingent on at least completing gun safety training and regularly completing refresher courses? And also on guns and ammunition being stored in certain responsible ways?

 

I don't think the left advocates for handling firearms unsafely, so yeah the statement didn't make much sense. They (I am left, but not on this issue) think you can legislate them away, and they're wrong on that. I don't think Baldwin's failures in this case really show anything about gun control policy, except maybe that people should take a class on safety. The whole "I didn't pull the trigger" thing from him is just idiotic. There are some mitigating factors, but he bears some responsibility for it. Being rich and famous does help you get away with things in America, just ask Trump about grabbing genitals. You can do whatever you want, since you're famous. He could shoot somebody and not lose supporters. Maybe it works the same for this guy.

What anti-gunners advocate is based on faulty information borne of ignorance of the functions of given firearms. So yes, the comment makes perfect sense to anyone who understand basic firearm safety.

The point has nothing to do with gun control policies - it has to do with the disdain for guns and gun owners popular with the progressive crowd such to the extent that a turd like Baldwin (who is happy to make millions off the portrayal of gun violence while ironically contributing to the ignorance referenced by the other poster) would think learning how to safely handle a firearm is beneath it.

100%. Even giving it the benefit of the doubt, basic trigger discipline (like the kind exhibited by say... oh I dunno... Kyle Rittenhouse) would have saved that woman's life.

The anti gun crowd is quick to parade their ignorance. You are far from correct. In addition to firearms safety videos, the NRA provides training courses. I support this training and have had the pleasure of teaching gun safety and marksmanship to many people over the years. Baldwin, like the vast majority of anti-gunners, only know enough about guns to be dangerous.

 

Again, the NRA supports gun ownership as a right, no matter whether someone receives training or not. The NRA offering courses to make money is immaterial.

But would you support such courses as a requirement for someone to own or carry a firearm? Would you support stepping back from this gun freedumb position that regards ownership of modern firearms as an inalienable right in order to impose such reasonable restrictions and hopefully save lives?

If bringing in money weakens their position, just know that gun control groups outspend gun rights groups by a large margin. The gun safety videos that would have prevented this tragedy are available for all at no charge. Since viewing free videos on youtube reduces the levels of ignorance and gullibility, it is not something the anti gun crowd recommends.

The problem with finding reasons to deny ones second amendment rights, is that one reason only leads to another. I live in Los Angeles where what you propose is already law. In addition to requiring a Firearm Safety Certificate, you need permission from the Sheriffs office to carry a gun. Unless you are a friend of the Sheriff, it is extremely unlikely you will be issued a CCW. Criminals and gang members don't have to pass a test and do not need permission from the Sheriff.

Gun control is not from a position of concern for human life.

Baldwin was being a typical Hollywood Liberal and playing around with it like it were a toy, with no respect for safety.

I think most likely he was just irresponsibly playing around with it, thinking it was okay to aim and shoot at someone working on the set because the gun only contained blanks.

Not a single mass shooter in U.S. history has been a card-carrying member of the NRA. Ever. And I'm pretty sure the thugs in Chicago and Detroit slaughtering each other on a daily basis aren't members either...
