What the Founders Thought About Democracy - EPautos - Libertarian Car Talk (ericpetersautos.com)

Consider the words of the Founding Fathers themselves, who — one after another — condemned democracy. V

    • Virginia’s Edmund Randolph participated in the 1787 convention. Demonstrating a clear grasp of democracy’s inherent dangers, he reminded his colleagues during the early weeks of the Constitutional Convention that the purpose for which they had gathered was “to provide a cure for the evils under which the United States labored; that in tracing these evils to their origin every man had found it in the turbulence and trials of democracy….”

    • John Adams, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, championed the new Constitution in his state precisely because it would not create a democracy. “Democracy never lasts long,” he noted. “It soon wastes, exhausts and murders itself.” He insisted, “There was never a democracy that ‘did not commit suicide.’”

With the help of Donald Judas tRump and his followers it appears the Republic is taking a shot at it.

NO American in our history has been as divisive as our 45th president, losing office hasn't slowed him down a bit. He want's to be Dictator for life and sees destroying Government By The People as his path to that goal.

That's not a fact at all. The Constitution guarantees a (Constitutional) Republic and all other forms of government, including a democracy, are unconstitutional. This government is neither a democracy nor a republic, it is a fascist corporatist oligarchy pretending to be a "democracy" (2 wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for dinner).

I was responding to "Democracies commit suicide", observing that our republic, with the help of Benedict Donald's divisiveness is making a pretty good attempt.

Just responding to the thread. 8)

The fact that we vote for representatives or vote for anything at all does not make this government a democracy (in violation of Article IV Section 4). It is still a fascist oligarchy no matter how much lipstick you want to put on this pig. I don't need or want any "representatives", I represent myself suis juris. No one represents me, especially not lying phony politicians who are only in it for their own fat asses.

1a. Fail - there is no majority rule but if there was, it would still be 2 wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for dinner. That's why we have a Bill of Rights, which is always being violated.

1b. Fail - the "power" of this government is not vested in the people, it is vested in corporatism.

But keep dreaming if it helps.

Well, friends, if you followed this thread and my first thread by the same name, I/we discovered who the trolls might be here on Political Forum. I presented overwhelming documentation and other evidence that those who made our form of government not only made a republic but repeatedly condemned a democracy in the strongest terms — every single founding document and a multitude of our Founders’ writings. There are no official documents or Founders’ writings that we are anything other than a republic. I hope those who thought otherwise or were on the fence can now confidently say so. Thanks.

Read your definition carefully. It makes my point.

Here is a less nebulous definition.

    Oxford Dictionary

    republic

    noun

    1. a country that is governed by a president and politicians elected by the people and where there is no king or queen

"By the 20th century, however, the falsehoods that democracy was the epitome of good government and that the Founding Fathers had established just such a government for the United States became increasingly widespread. This misinformation was fueled by President Woodrow Wilson’s famous 1916 appeal that our nation enter World War I “to make the world safe for democracy” — and by President Franklin Roosevelt’s 1940 exhortation that America “must be the great arsenal of democracy” by rushing to England’s aid during WWII.

One indicator of the radical transformation that took place is the contrast between the War Department’s 1928 “Training Manual No. 2000-25,” which was intended for use in citizenship training, and what followed. The 1928 U.S. government document correctly defined democracy as:

A government of the masses. Authority derived through mass meeting or any other form of “direct expression.” Results in mobocracy. Attitude toward property is communistic — negating property rights. Attitude of the law is that the will of the majority shall regulate, whether it be based upon deliberation or governed by passion, prejudice, and impulse, without restraint or regard to consequences. Results in demagogism, license, agitation, discontent, anarchy."

I have to point out that your argument and supporting documents are circular. You're using a libertarian source to support a libertarian argument. They seem to go hand in hand ... isn't that convenient.
