Not sure how this could have happened in progressive San Francisco. Is the driver possibly taking advantage of the situation? Will the DA Chesa Boudin intervene:
I agree that giving her the ticket was ridiculous (obviously). That said, once she received the ticket, she (like any other citizen-- Black, Brown, White, or Yellow) was free to challenge it in court. However, trying to turn this double-parking ticket into some sort of viral "Racial Profiling Incident" is ridiculous.
Here’s a question I’ve often presented to the usual suspects and never received an answer: what is the profile for a black person? A lot of people on the left, and I mean a lot of people, seem to thinks it’s bad.
"On 12/7/21 at 11:27 a.m. I was double-parked on Haight and Masonic with my engine off, collecting six packages to deliver to the mail depot at 1388 Haight Street. I was in the back of my truck looking for the last package to deliver when I was approached on the driver-side door of my truck. All I saw was this person's head. He didn't identify himself as a police officer or anything. All he said was you're impeding traffic, give me your license. I usually get approached by regular civilians telling me to move as well, so I brushed it off as an entitled civilian trying to tell me how to do my job again. I proceeded to exit my vehicle/work truck when I then realized that he was a police officer. After dropping the packages at 1388 Haight Street I enter my truck to retrieve my wallet and give the officer my DL. He then walked to his car never giving me a warning to move or even telling me he was giving me a ticket, I assumed he was just going to run my name to make sure my license was clear and give me a warning. That's why in the video I stated that I thought he was joking, but he wasn't. A Good Samaritan that was at the bus stop questioned the reasoning for the ticket as you can hear in the video as well and was upset behind the stop. A crowd ensued and two more officers were called. I refused to sign the citation because I was taught by my employer to double-park." She herself stated she was inside the back of her truck when she was first approach and asked for her license. The police could not have known she was black when they encountered the double parked vehicle. The rest of her story speaks for itself why she got the ticket. Blocking a lane in a two lane road with your engine off, not at the driver's seat. How long was she there? But hey, claim race.
No good answer. Cops are tasked in part with keeping order, which includes keeping traffic from being obstructed. Tightly packed urban city streets are designed to maximize parking meter revenue, which leaves delivery drivers and the like literally with their ass hanging out in a big gray area. Delivery drivers need to park near the location of the delivery to keep cost of delivery down, but cops need to keep traffic flowing for people trying to get to work and to promote safe driving conditions to prevent car crashes. This is just another problem caused by too many people living too close together.
Yea I am with you on this. Given the clusterfuck that San Francisco is, it is utterly shocking to me that they have time to harass delivery drivers. Perhaps they could spend some time stopping this instead. PS. I don't think this has a damn thing about the driver's race. It has everything to do with the greed of the police department. They are treating this as a revenue stream.
I got the same ticket for double parking the Armored Truck to make a delivery...........and I was behind the wheel.
