I am saying the schools should site their own stats on the descriptions of every degree

Irresponsibility is allowing government debt to shackle people because they are desperate for an education. Nice try.

Adults strategically manage defaulting to control debt. Its an option, nothing more.

Contracts can be organic, as Trump has taught us.

Why would you take their numbers over an independent analysis? But OK let's demand they do so in order to accept students using federal loans.

Regarding culpability on the part of the colleges and universities, there is a concept within the Uniform Commercial Code known as an Implied Guarantee of Merchantability. It basically means when someone sells you something, it should do what you expect it to do. If you buy a car, you expect it to be drivable.

Not sure of the applicability of this standard to non-material goods like college degrees, but it seems to me if someone "buys" a college degree with the expectation that they will make a certain salary upon entering the job market and said degree fails to deliver, they have a legitimate gripe with the institution. However, I fear such an argument would not hold up in court; there are too many easy ways to argue out of any culpability. Colleges don't promise graduates any specific job or salary when leaving school. It's up to the degree holder to make the most of their earned credentials.

Even so, it seems to me some college programs are lying by omission when they fail to mention that there is virtually no job market for people with the degrees they offer. I'll cite my earlier link as an example:

At Syracuse, a bachelor's degree in studio and fine arts costs $137,888. Graduates can expect to earn an average of $17,624 per year two years after graduating. Now I ask you, who would knowingly enroll in a program with those stats?

I think the borrower should have to repay the principal with no discharge in bankruptcy, and the university (by loose definition) should pay the interest.

That way taxpayers aren't on the hook, and the Universities have flesh in the game. Maybe they'll stop jacking tuition to ridiculous levels and start focusing on actually providing an education.

For the Tongue in cheek portion of my post, anyone who actually took out a loan to get an education in some subject that does not actually have job immediate availability should have to pay double....

Perhaps someone who isn’t smart enough to look at potential earnings before choosing a major shouldn’t be going to college at all.

    I said

But OK let's demand they do so in order to accept students using federal loans and let's encourage private agency's to also continue to do so. The information is out there already.

what is their grade, did people actually get jobs with their training, or was it useless

The left and MSM loved it when students of Trump University sued and won for just such a claim.

High pressure sales - well don't these universities and colleges do the same with the "only way to get a good job" and the "prestige" they sell?
He was using it to sell his books - don't these professors do the same requiring the students to buy their CURRENT books which they edit each year so used books can't be used.
Careers do not match the earnings promised or cost of the education - well we see that clearly with these universities and colleges.

Don't think it was fake because he had been saying he wouldn't and there is NO NEED to do so now. People are working pay back your loans why should the taxpayer keep subsidizing these current interest free loans.

'needed by society' is pretty vague. One could claim that a degree in the niche field of Rutabaga is important to society.

Your hero, Trump, has slithered out of many contracts he promised to pay by declaring bankruptcy ...

But whatever - Biden just extended the repayment calendar as he said he would, so this thread is another fail.
