Kim Potter was found guilty of First Degree Manlaughter of Daunte Wright. I’m troubled by this verdict. Man 1 under Minnesota law requires intent. This was a terrible accident, probably gross incompetence, but it is obvious she didn’t intend to kill the victim, who was eluding police. I think Man 2 was the more appropriate conviction.

This was a complete judicial TRAVESTY! The only possible guilty verdict should MAYBE have been 2nd-degree manslaughter... and even that is a stretch.

The message: if you're Black, and you live in a lib-infested place in the upper-midwest, you can do any damned thing you please and know now that no police officer is going to even TRY to take you into custody!

Who wants to be 'retired' from decades on a police force by living in a prison cell...?! Absolutely disgusting!

The legal team should have moved to get the indictment vacated as deficient on its face. Why didn’t they?

I was listening to one black man who said that 6 years in prison is "not enough" and that "maybe" 15 years in prison would start getting closer to being fair.

In this current social-political climate there certainly seems to be a feeling of vengeance, and they want "justice" for all those black people killed by police... it does seem to matter so much which specific police officer it is and what exactly that specific situation is. So I think this female police officer may be falling victim to some of that, some of that generalized anger and emotion that is floating around.

Of course this was almost certainly an accident, what one might call a result of human error.

If I were supreme dictator, my personal feeling would be to sentence her to around 18 months in prison and make her pay for half of the funeral costs.

But there are a lot of people who want far more vengeance than that, and 18 months would not satiate them.

Let's remember that there was a reason this officer had to decide to pull out and fire a taser gun in the first place (even though she mistakenly ended up pulling out the wrong gun), so is it really fair to claim that victim had no blame in this at all?

I personally don't think sentencing her to more than a year and a half of prison would really accomplish anything, since it was an accidental mistake.

Have you heard about the cop who shot a 14-year-old girl dead in a store's dressing room?

14-year-old girl in dressing room killed by LAPD in shooting that also left suspect dead

And what has that got to do with former police officer Kim Potter trying to arrest a perp over a thousand miles away who had an ARREST WARRANT out on him, and who had resisted lawful arrest...?! :blahblah:

Kim was convicted on First Degree Manslaughter charges. As I have said before, I would have found her "Not Guilty" on all charges. Some people think that she was negligent in shooting Daunte. I think the shoot ing was justified.

In the LA incident there is a guy supposedly engaged in an assault with a deadly weapon. The Slave Patrollers show up and start shooting. A 14-year-old girl was in a dressing room and one of the cop's bullets killed her. No gun was found.

So, comparing the cases if the LA cop doesn't get charged and convicted on First Degree manslaughter, there is no way in hell Kim should have ever been charged and convicted. Got it?

You certainly have a habit of taking threads off topic.

You should try harder not to do that.

I see a huge amount of Anti-Gun bias, and Anti-Police bias (not to mention racial bias and pent-up racial resentment) lurking under the surface in this case.

Would the Left still be demanding this sort of retribution if an accident comparable to this (I'm not sure what exactly that would be) that did not involve a gun, did not involve a police officer, and did not involve black victim (or if the perpetrator had also been black) took place?

I'm pretty certain the answer would be no.

(In fact, demanding vengeance and punitive responsibility seems to be far more of a thing on the conservative Right than on the liberal Left)

I, too, may very well have found Kim completely not-guilty on all charges. That said, based on what we know, I don't see a lot of similarity between the two shooting incidents.

Was/is the L.A. perp Black? Was the 14 year-old girl Black? Race seems to weigh larger and larger all the time in how courts handle these cases... and police officers would be wise to take careful note not to have their lives destroyed because of it....

    The 'woke' Gestapo is ever-vigilant!

She made a mistake, it resulted in negligent homicide. She's most certainly will get an early parole once sentenced.

Very doubtful, because if Kim is shown any leniency at all, the BLM/ANTIFA/'woke' mobs will take that as license to resume their 'big fun' times of rioting, arson, pillaging, and looting -- WITH IMPUNITY!

Why? Probably because the 'big-money' boys in Minneapolis didn't want to have a repeat of all the rioting, pillaging, arson, and looting that caused horrific destruction during the 'big-fun' that followed the George Floyd incident....

Well, first and foremost, there should have been a change-of-venue to another location at least 1,000 miles away from Minne-EHH-polis, preferably to a state where there is a larger percentage of balanced, unbiased citizens (perhaps a 'purple' state). Having Kim's trial in a lib-infested, 'woke'-contaminated place like Minneapolis was sure to get exactly the kind of trial result we have seen....

how does anyone get found guilty of man 1 and man 2 for killing one person in one act?

one crime should be one charge

Easy! When the case involves a Black perp who gets killed by the police while resisting arrest, then ANY CHARGE, no matter how outrageous or far-fetched must be pushed and shoved by the court to the max, whether it's fair or not! Otherwise, rioting, arson, pillaging, and looting break out all over the town....

seems like the judge would have to drop one of the two, as you can't charge someone twice for the same act

it's either one or the other, not both

According to Alan Dershowitz in the story I linked earlier, there is some reason to hope that justice (JUSTICE) may eventually prevail, because he writes (emphasis mine): "In addition, the appellate courts in Minnesota should review the record in the case, including the judge's instructions and the evidence, and the appeals court should reach a decision to release her on bail with a subsequent decision to reverse the conviction." Here's that link again: https://www.newsmax.com/newsfront/dershowitz-kim-potter-daunte-wright/2021/12/24/id/1049869/

In a few months it may be possible for the BLM/ANTIFA/riot-happy mobs will move on to something else to 'hate-on'. But if there is a re-trial, I still think that they must conduct it far, FAR away from the hyperliberal insane asylum that is Minne-EHH-polis....

Please remember, this is exactly what the 'left' was saying about Rittenhouse. Is it justice done? Or is it just reflexive of how we think about politics these days?

But, honestly, Kranes... there is really no (NO) similarity between the Rittenhouse case and this Kim Potter case. I'll spare you a tiresome recitation of my version of both cases and simply ask you to review the facts involved in both cases. They really couldn't be more different, in every material way....

I'm not an attorney, and except for just a few, limited areas, I know little about law involving someone's death at the hands of a police officer. Alan Dershowitz, however, is universally-acknowledged as a genuine authority on such matters, and if you read what he's written, this whole case that was brought against Kim Potter, as well as the way it was handled in the court, was a complete travesty and indefensible mockery of justice itself! Here's the original story, and its link: https://thehill.com/opinion/judicia...s-trend-behind-officer-kim-potters-conviction

That's fine. I don't care. It matters little to me either way. Rather what I care about is how people's reactions fit into the wider issue of American's losing faith in the judicial system. What's important to realize is that the jury made their decision. And we can have a choice in whether to accept it or not. Which will people choose?

no one really cared much about this case, it was a sad accident, should have been handled in civil court
