    Happy New Year, barflies!

I hope 2022 is a good year for all of you, and I hope it is a good year to our country.

To our first responders, medical workers, police and military - Thank you. I wish you peace and safety in the coming year.

I enjoy talking to all of you, even when we disagree. Smarties’ is a place to take off the gloves and show a bit of ourselves to everyone.

We need more of this type of bar in the world. When we relate in other ways, we open up to other perspectives.

I try damn hard to stay civil out there in PF. I don’t always succeed, but I always learn and improve. This special oasis in PF is a reminder.

So, cheers to all of you. I hope 2022 brings all of us more solitude and understanding, and a much needed respite from nasty diseases. Peace out!

    Kathy

@Abby If he's got a willing lap and gets petted, as far as he's concerned, it's all good.

Happy 2022 y'all! Geesh, seems like yesterday we were worried about Y2K! Went fast huh?

Hope it's a good one for everybody. If you can't be good, at least be kind!

Rained like hail last night. The creeks are overflowing and low lying areas are flooded. Lots and lots of rain.

Chives are good, and they multiply from season to season. Who doesn't allow you to have basil?

Blight. It's a nasty disease that happens to basil. It first showed up about three years ago. I had to put all the plants, every stem & leaf, into a plastic bag and seal it tight, then throw it away. I had to let my backyard "rest," for about a year. (This supposedly forces the blight to move out. I also had to replace every bit of garden soil.

I've tried twice since then, and within a month, they all get blight.

Have you called your ag department? They are handy when you have a problem with plants.

Doesn't look as if it will get this cold again according to the 10 day forecast. Good, I'm heading south into the mountains of Chihuahua on the 6th.

It got cold here also. We even had a little snow. We don't have pipes exposed but I had some roofing that threatened to blow off the roof. I need 3 more pieces of tin to put up and since I have to work it under the other roofing it isn't screwed down yet.

When it gets really cold in the north, I get to open my windows and wear my sweats. It’s it’s 70 right now, and will be in the low 60s while we sleep.

I lived my first 33 years in Chicago. I miss a lot. I do not miss the corruption. I also don’t miss the cold.

My cousin lived in Des Plains and we used to visit. I grew up in northern Indiana...Ft Wayne area. I don't miss the cold either.

I know Des Plains well. I have family in Indiana, but they are really just east Chicago, it’s so close.
