Americans from coast to coast learned about the true meaning of Christmas in recent days thanks to a full-page Hobby Lobby advertisement celebrating the birth of Jesus.

Hobby Lobby ran a gospel-centric, Christmas-themed ad in newspapers across the country showing a painting of a toddler boy – representing a young Jesus – picking up nails on the shop floor as his earthly father, Joseph, tends to his works a few feet away. The sunshine through the adjacent window casts a shadow off Jesus in the shape of a cross.

“Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. John 1:29,” the text reads. “If you would like to know Jesus as Lord and Savior, visit Need Him Ministry at ChatAboutJesus.com.”

The ad also contains a website where readers can download a free digital Bible. Hobby Lobby’s name is listed in small print.

Hobby Lobby runs Bible-themed holiday ads in newspapers on Easter, Independence Day and Christmas. The idea for the ads was birthed in 1995 when Hobby Lobby founder David Green was perusing Christmas advertisements in the newspaper and “felt commissioned by God to do something different,” according to the company’s website.…

Indeed they do: christmas is all about selling product. You can do it with adds with santa claus holding a coke, or drape yourself in religious mock piety. The latter might be even worse than the former. Either way it works as they have you promoting their brand, and a christian themed newspaper writing them up.
    Yay commercialism!

Yep, nothing says "true meaning of our holidays" more than making a good profit from Christmas sales. So much profit he has a net worth of > $4 billion. Would Jesus approve?

Well, Jesus said, "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God."

He said that NOT because being rich automatically means you’re going to hell... he said it because most rich people love their money more than they love God. All men, including rich men, must love God above all else. They must love God Above their friends, family, riches and even their own lives. The problem with great riches is that men tend to love their riches more than they love God.

Jesus showed this with the rich young ruler. The rich young man said, “Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?” Jesus answered and said, “Do not call me good, no one is good but God. But if you want to have eternal life, go sell what you have and give to the poor and come follow me.”

The rich young ruler bowed his head and walked away forlorn because he loved his riches so much he could not give them up for God.

ETA Jesus was also not saying all rich people have to sell what they have. He was making a point to the young man. Jesus knew the man loved his riches more than he loved god. To prove it to him he said to sell what he has for God and the young man couldn’t do it.

Yes, Hobby Lobby supplies jobs to millions of people, which allows them to eat, have shelter, and survive. Unless you know of a way for people to live on nothing, HL is a great company.

I would like to go back to the traditional meaning of Christmas too.

Going through a bunch of rich neighborhoods and stealing all their stuff.

Progressives have moved on from that; they now go through a bunch of poor black neighborhoods, burn them down and call it "social justice".

Calling something the “true” version of a copied story is hilarious. That should not diminish you’re enjoyment of the event if you like it.

Hobby Lobby supporting and promoting Christmas is as self-servingly perverted asTele Evangelists begging for money while telling you that helps to cleans your soul while providing them a lifestyle that GOD wants them to have.

I have to ask. Would we be seeing the same outrage from libs if Hobby Lobby ran an ad promoting the homosexual lifestyle as (for example) General Motors and Coca-Cola have done? And of course we all know the answer.

Predictably enough here come the Christianity hating leftist to bash Christianity.

    Funny they never criticize Islam

This country was founded based and built upon Christian morals.
At least with Christianity you are allowed to criticize it. criticizing Islam can be very bad for your health

I have no problem with hobby lobby making an ad that is designed to appeal to christians. In the same way that I have no problem with coca cola featuring gay couples. After that you make your profits or take your hits depending on how it is viewed by your customers. I do have a problem with the OP being so naive as to think that hobby lobby's goal was to promote christianity when they were releasing that ad. they did it to generate profit for their share holders, in the same way that coca cola did. The owner may have a pure motif, but at the end of the day, this is just another disgusting commercialization of christmas. To think differently is naive

Well you ignore the fact the Hobby Lobby has a history of spending their money for other than advertising to promote the Christian religion.

A Christian doesn't need to wait and die to be judged..... Just come to this forum and declare that you are a Christian and see for yourself!

Evidently the CEO wants people to know that he is Christian and he is obviously seeking the Christian demographic as some of his customers.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. But I'm sure the left will ascribe all sorts of wrong to it
