Yes but riots are facts, sedition is opinion. Using the term is a good thing for government in its efforts to protect itself.

Hmmmmmmm. So perhaps Rhodes should sue the Capital police for not stopping the attempted coup he and his gang of nitwits participated in. That's it!!! It's all the police's fault.

What the Oath Keepers did is a textbook case.

If two or more persons in any State or Territory, or in any place subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, conspire to overthrow, put down, or to destroy by force the Government of the United States, or to levy war against them, or to oppose by force the authority thereof, or by force to prevent, hinder, or delay the execution of any law of the United States, or by force to seize, take, or possess any property of the United States contrary to the authority thereof, they shall each be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than twenty years, or both.

Of course, the people doing it would disagree.

That's an understatement! So many events and actions have occurred that never saw any consequences and I simply gave up, thinking that people would never be held responsible. Today, perhaps, my faith has been restored. I'm happy to see this particular action, but also the fact that the fraudulent electors situation has been referred to the DOJ. If we take three large steps back and look at all that occurred, we can see definite coordination.

Just like a BLM rioter would disagree that what they were doing is wrong. Would that change your mind on how they should be treated?

The perspective of the person committing the crime doesn't matter. That those folks in the Capital building thought they were doing good is irrelevant. They had the responsibility of knowing better than that because not doing so isn't a legal defense to get out of culpability.

What evidence do you have they engaged in said acts in an effort to overthrow the government?

I said from the very beginning they should be treated exactly the same. That isn't happening.

A textbook case of what? What exactly did they do? Don't give me an answer that comes from government which is only in the mood to protect itself and punish its enemies. They trespassed in a public building? They wanted to stop what they viewed as a corrupt election? How does what they did differ from patriotism? The answer, of course, is point of view.

Perhaps they were under the impression they would be treated equally as the blm rioters.

No the Capital Police should have known if the FBI had informed them that they had evidence of trouble maker going to the Capital to cause real trouble, they didn't have the man power there to stop them and all the others that might join in. I heard even after the break in, the Capital Police again refused help from the Guard.

The US Capitol Police refused to accept help from the FBI and National Guard before President Trump’s supporters stormed the Capitol, according to a report. The Pentagon offered Sunday to send guardsmen to help secure the perimeter and the Justice Department offered FBI help on Wednesday as the mob arrived, according to The Associated Press.

That was the wrong thing to say. The BLM rioters should have been punished far heavier, every one of them. That would have been the right thing to do. It's most certainly the right thing to do here. Two wrongs don't make a right.

    1. Evidence Mounts! Capitol Attack was Planned! What did ...
Jan 14, 2021 · The FBI admitted Tuesday it received information ahead of the Jan. 6 tragedy suggesting some participants were planning a “war” on the Capitol, including killing officers and distributing maps of the complex. It alerted Washington D.C. law enforcement through the joint terrorism task force alert system.
Why didn't the Capital police ask for the Guard? Did the FBI inform them of the intelligence they had? I see no Liberal asking these questions and you should if your looking at the hole picture and not just Trump

Wow, ten minutes have gone by and not a sound out of the Left over what I posted. Is it to much to ask to look at both sides and try and be fair?

Yes, it's important to know who is rebelling against Government By The People in favor of autocratic government of one orange man. Most of the rioting of 2020 was by anarchists taking advantage of civil unrest and inflaming it into violent rioting.

Looks like the January 6th insurrectionists were warming up during 2020.

Aside from the completely erroneous nature of that claim, can you see how the focus on the Capital police's decisions before the attack can be construed as trying to deflect blame away from the attackers?

Constitutional law which describes the press of electing a new government. They sought to interfere and annul that process by force.

I understand when Trump left his podium and went indoors and spent the afternoon watching the TV coverage. Maybe making phone calls?
If he had respected the Constitution, he would have told his followers to stop.

No, it's you that doesn't care about rioting, you care about who you can pin it on. Well look at my post #66. People that want to use the 2020 riots to obfuscate the January 6th insurrection are in the same boat as bad golfer's ... they need a better lie.

BLM supporters never tried to prevent the constitutional process that defines your democracy, by force.
The two are not really comparable.

I'm more interested in finding out why Benedict Donald, who was at the top of the National Guard chain of Command, was holding the Guard in reserve to protect his mob?
