Truth? My sense is that Pootski is much, much happier dealing with another blundering, half-witted Democrat (Obama being the other one) than having to figure out what a temperamental, very unpredictable guy like Trump might do if there were a Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Trump kept them all off-balance, but these simple-minded Democrats are as easy for the Russians and Chinese to see through as sheets of bargain-brand toilet paper, and just as useful, accordingly, to our opponents....

    Pootski sounds pretty Polish.
I think madman Vladimir wants to integrate Poland also back into the Russian Empire. Possibly Germany too.

Indeed, Comrade Pootski is a Russkie Hitler: http://en.kremlin.ru/events/president/news/66181

Well your first question out the box shows you don't know what you're talking about not that such has ever stopped you from opining on something. Ukraine for instance is along way from Siberia several hundred mile in fact. 2nd what ever we do it's going to be a blood bath. What would Trump do? Same thing as Biden, a few strongly worded complaints to the UN followed by sanctions. Almost nothing overtly military. We simply no longer have the capacity to deal with both Russia and China. And frankly I'd frankly trade away a lot of former Soviet bloc countries if it would pry Russia away from China.

It's not like this sort of scenario was ever discussed!

Russia wants to control all the energy! He who owns the oil and gas controls the lives of those that rely on it ;)

I don't care. We can produce all we need, and Ukraine is not the only overseas source of oil.

If that were true the EU wouldn't already be under the thumb of Russian energy already ;)

The percentage is even higher now..

Which probably means, as I suspected, that if we do anything militarily about a Russian invasion of Ukraine, Europe is likely to sit there and do nothing.

    Screw them!

If they want to be dependent on Russia, let them.

We don't have to be dependent. We can produce our own.

All the more reason not to sacrifice our kids.

Let's get Hunter Biden his seat back on the Burisma; won't solve anything but it will keep "the Big Guy's" treasure well stocked.

    Attention gentlemen.
I repeat...some of Europe may now depend on Russian energy.
However we also increase our deals with the Middle East .
Putin does NOT hold Europe in place via the energy issue.
    Thank you.

Some of Europe may well depend on Russian gas but can change this if required. and no one is going to war over gas. The pipeline is just another potential difficulty IF there is a war.
What is the issue is each side's perception of where their borders are. Neither side wants the other nibbling away ...like two neighbours each protecting every inch of their lawn. (in fact I have actually seen very aggressive behaviour due to some perceived encroachment).
Putin wants to reabsorb Poland, Hungary , Romania etc which is now legally "western European". He is threatening to pick off the low hanging fruit of Ukraine which has been discussing joining the EU and the west disapproves of military intervention in freedom of choice (sovereignty) . Unfortunately Ukraine doesn't have the military power it would need to defend herself.
As for Sweden, I can only think it is positioning in order to prevent Russia outflanking the EU and attacking from behind the EU border. Just guess of course but if Russia did that, there really WOUJLD be a war spearheaded by NATO as one of its members would have been attacked. I would be astonished if Russia tried that.

This is rather crucial, but Poland, Hungary, and Romania are NATO members. Any military incursion into any of those countries would lead to war. Sweden is not in NATO so has all the vulnerabilities of any militarily weak state near Russia. Ukraine isn't in NATO, the EU, and again, should not invoke a war between NATO and Russia if Russia chooses to invade unless our Western leaders have really gone crazy.

As for the natural gas, choosing to become dependent on Russian gas was a policy choice by several European nations, and that rather makes their membership in NATO pointless; they need an alliance to protect them from the country they are economically dependent on? If anything, NATO should be shrinking, not growing. It's a damaging blow to the alliance to have member countries with a vested interest in supporting Russia, the country that NATO is allegedly supposed to be defending them from.

ByDumb will not war with Russia, I doubt many are willing to go toe to toe with them! They will allow Ukraine to fall, maybe gift them arms like they did in Afghanistan. Putin is simply taking advantage of a chaotic America and a brain dead President, he knows damn well that we actually don't really have a leader but a bunch of idiots pushing social agenda bullshit like CRT and encouraging Black on White hatred/tensions and most of all. The world laughs at us :)

Well, you sure side-stepped the main point of my reply -- which is that it has been gullible, witless, Leftist Democrats (DEMOCRATS) who have let Putin develop his strategies in Ukraine, beginning with Crimea in 2014 under 'Messiah' Obama....

It would be comical if it weren't so tragic -- these America-hating DEMOCRATS obsess about Russians on the border of Ukraine -- but completely IGNORE our own damned border with Mexico! Has Geriatric Joe ever considered the idea that Putin just wants to be 'inclusive' and all-embracing by welcoming Ukrainians back into Russia, thereby achieving his own goals for 'diversity'...?!

[IMG]. "Yeah, man, we just, I mean, you know, like, wanna be, uh, 'diverse' and 'inclusive'!"

Hush. Don't tell Bozo et al who, now they have insisted the UIK leave the EU, they have no masters.

However, being serious, we all have masters. No country is autonomous and even the USA is subject to some Chinese control.

Nope. When it comes to energy, if you have to rely on Russia and the middle east then you have truly made a deal/pact with devils ;)

I really don't think this has anything to do with the USA.
It is a European issue, well divorced from your left/right internal squabbles.
NATO is not involved, and perhaps the best course of action for the US right now is to stay out of it. We all know what happens when the US puts on its underpants and just adds to the confusion.

    Where else would you suggest?
Europe already imports a fair amount for the USA.
UK's oil fields are on the decline.
    Let's stay in reality, eh?

I suspect your interference will only complicate things until Putin crosses into Nato member territory, which I sincerely doubt he will.
I as surprised today when I heard on the radio that the Ukraine has a good number of troops and expects in the first instance to defend itself. Europe agrees.
Keep watch but let's not fire the first shot.

I don't see Saudi Arabia as a problem when it comes to trade. We sell them military equipment and we buy their oil.
    Everyone is happy.
