All I can say is at least it's still attached.

An old family friend, Master Carpenter & Furniture Maker, took off 3 fingers on his left hand with a table saw. He yelled upstairs to his wife to bring him some ice in a zip lock bag, then proceeded to pick up his fingers and put them in the ziplock. His wife was almost zombie-like, but she got him to the ER. Unfortunately they weren't able to reattach.

    He still does his woodworking.

One of my worst fears when working power tools.. I am really slow because I am very cautious.. I am pleased to still have all my digits, limbs and eyes. Came close a few times.. for instance.. never pour one kind of drain opener upon another.. Had an eruption when I did it, burned the paint off of the microwave oven sitting two feet away. but somehow completely missed me.. I am very sure God watches over me (thank you Lord), the Lord knows I need it! I settled down from my wild way years back.. gave my guardian angel a big break.. no more watching out for me when I was driving under the influence. .. or any of the other dumb things I used to do on regular occasions.

I used to run a 3/4 carbide tipped band saw in a foundry and saw men would get cut often. I was fortunate. I was almost cut once and the saw blade went thru my gloves and liner. They told us to save the fingers to put on ice to be reattached. A couple of saw operators had nasty scars and one lost several fingers. We called him thumber.

I used to like to play with improvised pyrotechnic devices. What's that they say knows just enough to be dangerous?

Certain chemicals do not play nice together and it's easier to learn that through book knowledge then hands-on experience.

So needless to say that's not something I really pursue as a hobby anymore. I like my fingers and you know the government tends to frown on that sort of thing.

When I was a kid we played around with that kind of stuff. We made our own smoke bombs from sugar and saltpeter. We set off a pipe bomb near a tree once. But we didn't know much.

It was sodium nitrate and not potassium nitrate. You mix 9 parts sugar and 1 part nitrate. On top of that use a 2to one mix of sugar and nitrate for a starter mixture. It leaves a big ash like a fireworks snake.

I can make sling bullets go boom on impact with a wall or other hard target. You can prime lots of things with cap gun caps or strike anywhere matches.....to the extent you can still find any.

When the farmer whose land I live on went to high school in the late '60s he took in a small fertiliser bomb he'd made as a part of his science project and was allowed to let it off in the playground.

oh God he be called a terrorist now. What's the world coming to when a man can't even make explosions in the woods or on private property for his own entertainment?
needless to say a sling is best played with in a very large open field by yourself!

Even in the woods you may think you're alone but there could be someone over there in the bushes. I hate to think I ever struck someone inadvertently. Whether it was on purpose or not they're still hit with a slingstone right?

I have worked with power tools and machinery all my adult life. It only takes a second or less to be seriously hurt.

This was before the IRA started using fertiliser bombs to kill and maim thousands of British citizens.

A classic mix of an oxidizer and a fuel. Stump remover is a great source of it it's almost pure

And of course Timothy McVeigh with the Oklahoma Federal building. That type of fertilizer became highly regulated after that event.

I guess it's a good thing a lot of malicious people aren't interested in pursuing chemistry because when you think about it it's truly frightening how many everyday objects in the world around you can be turned into an explosive device.

It was a real shock to me. I heard.......and felt at the exact time.... a loud ping and my thumb was splayed out like a fillet. I don't want to even think about losing three fingers. However, a guy at the foundry got four fingers ground off in a flatbelt grinder. Having had15 stitches from a belt grinder I can testify.....a wound from a grinder leaves a wound with nothing to grow back....it hurts.

Got my stitches out today and I am considering building an aquarium stand for my deck. I have a lot of time to think about it because I ain't running any vibrating tools today. I just want this thumb to heal without complications. Then I can use a saw again. I figured out a better way to cut the table legs. I am also thinking about a river table. Find some live edge stuff.....know just the place.. and use resin for the river between the two live edge pieces. Maybe get some mica powder to make it look kinda like a map.

For the first time I had the grandsons, by myself for 2 nights while the womenfolk went to a retreat ... I'm 61 and they are 5 and 6 ... they just left ... I have never felt so exhausted in my life ...

took them for a short hike in the mountains, went to the Lego store, scooter riding, 4 wheeling ... they are very high energy boys ... I live in a 3 story townhouse and they just love chasing each other up and down the stairs, then stop and fight for a bit and start all over again ... normally when the wife is here, they sleep in the guestroom but they wouldn't go to bed so I made them camp with me in the mancave with my dog in front of the door ... I had very little sleep ...

when my daughter in law picked them up and called me 5 minutes later saying they were sound asleep in the car ...

    the little shits ...
