C'mon man, is this really necessary? Do people really sit around, think of something masculine and then rush to feminize it?

I wonder how the woke left would take it if for once Lucy was going to kick the football and Charlie Brown pulled it away at the last second sending a woman to plop on her ass. It's ok for a man to plop on his ass, so why not Lucy?

I heard the company behind Cracker Jack are big fans of the Biden administration, and are going to commemorate it with the introduction of either Crack-pipe Joe or Crackhead Hunter.

This should not stand -- blacks sometimes refer to whites as "crackers".

The URL doesn't go anywhere. If it is real, it is dumb, but not "men maiming." I tried buying a bag of Cracker Jack a while back and there were only like 4 peanuts in it, so what's the point? That's just caramel popcorn that someone accidentally dropped a couple of peanuts into.

My reply to that is: C'mon man, is this thread, really necessary? Do you just sit around, looking for something, no matter how trivial, to hyperbolize into something deserving of public concern, or righteous indignation? Is your own masculinity such a frail thing, for you to feel it threatened, by this?

Yes, it would be fine for Lucy to fall on her ass. But there is no reason for you to "wonder how the woke left would take it." This is not something that would cause any reaction at all, from the political Left, or from anyone without not only an axe to grind but, also, an absence of causes, worthy of commentary.

Oh right, a slur against white people, I forgot that’s totally fine. Silly me.

    Okay. Okay.

    I heard they are rebranding.

To be more family friendly, I heard they are going with Crackerpipe Joe and Crackerhead Hunter.

I heard they decided that they did not want to be too on the crack-powdered nose.

    Your side self-describes as "woke."

So, I guess you just insulted your own side with that graphic.

    Not very enlightened of you.

You are, for some reason, not following Phyxius' very straight forward point: just because you consider "woke," to be an insult, does not mean that others cannot think of the term positively (as a synonym, in Phyxius' example, for "enlightened"). To give you an example, to which you may be able to more easily relate, consider the term "Trump supporter:" if progressives think of this as a criticism, does that mean that anyone asserting that they support Trump, is insulting themself?

I would assume that both packagings-- displaying Cracker Jack, as well as other boxes, calling themselves Cracker Jill-- will be used. Don't you? It would not make much sense, otherwise, since the reason behind the name is the now somewhat obsolete expression, "a cracker jack (fill in the rest, e.g.: marketer, salesman, pilot, etc.)."

As should be understood, from what I wrote, above, the term "cracker jack," is an expression, indicating skill, so is a positive assessment, in our language. Therefore it cannot be considered as only a slur. The meaning for "cracker," to which you refer-- which is a reference to the cracking of an overseer's whip-- is a completely separate meaning, of the word.

Many words have multiple meanings, depending on context.

Why do you have a comma after "woke"? Not very enlightened of you and neither is your response. Your side self-describes as woke, as opposed to enlightened. You don't refer to yourselves as enlightened; rather, you refer to yourselves as woke. Perhaps because you can't spell "enlightened." The graphic is a self-own, and the self-own has been emphasized by you.

I find it pretty funny about the word Cracker. I was nicknamed that as a kid by my grandfather because I was born in Florida and worked ranches. You were either a Florida Cracker or a Georgia peach. How it became a slang term is beyond me.
Its even the name of my boat. lol

Yes, marketing people do if they are trying to increase sales to women.

Apparently you don't believe in a free market. Who should mandate what goes on Cracker Jack or Jill? Trump?

Do you think Frito Lay should be banned from marketing to women?

In expository writing-- that is, putting forth a written argument-- the proper way is for one to put his strongest points, first. If this is your strongest point, I am not expecting much from the rest of your answer, as all you have done, above, is to show that you are not a particularly literate reader or writer. Though recent practice has been moving towards less frequent use of commas, in writing, that does not mean that traditional (and, until just recently, conventional) usage of commas, is now incorrect. When I learned about this, in the 1970s and '80s, it was taught to students, to put commas both before and after, material in quotation marks. I have only recently, myself, reduced that to what is now more commonly seen, as in a news article or magazine: only using a single comma. I sometimes, now, even dispense with them, totally. But my usage, which you start off your post by trying to criticize, is 100% proper (FYI).

As I'd expected, this is a pitiful excuse for an argument. Let me ask you something: if your favorite team comes out on top, in that sport, so you call them the "champions," does that mean that you cannot also be intending that word to indicate that they are "winners?" Being unaware that more than a single word can be used to express some general idea, is far too remedial of a state of understanding of the English language-- in fact, I would guess your deficit is nearly unique, for, regardless of what other language a person might learn, prior to English, this same concept of "SYNONYMOUS words," exists there, as well-- for me to take on the monumental task, of bringing you up to speed, in grammar, syntax, and vocabulary.

You compound your clueless argument, by plagiarizing the insult which Phyxius had just used, to dispatch your own argument. This makes the overall takeaway, from your reply, to be that you have two ways of expressing ideas: being either incorrect, or unoriginal-- by stealing someone else's cleverness.

It was used by blacks, as an abbreviation of "whip- cracker." That makes me think of the other, conventional term, which is not considered to be derogatory, really: "whipper-snapper."

Why do you have a space after the em dash?

How am not I not literate? You seem to just be making a claim and leaving it out there in the breeze.
Thank you for the random tangent.

    How?

    You wrote:

What rule of proper punctuation justifies the comma to be placed after "woke" in that sentence? Also, "straightforward" is one word.

Instead of the phrase "synonymous words," use the word "synonyms." The phrase "synonymous words" is too wordy and, quite frankly, reminds me of some college freshman trying meet the minimum word requirement for some college paper, which is an index of a bad writer. Be concise.

To your point, the words "woke" and "enlightened" are not synonymous with one another. But, for the sake of the argument, even if they were, that's a red herring, as conservatives and anyone else opposed to wokeness did not coin the term "woke." You all did. We are simply using the word that you yourselves use to describe yourselves. It would seem that you yourselves don't know how to spell "enlightened" and instead decided to use the word "woke," because it was easier to spell. We don't think you are enlightened, and we wouldn't use the word "enlightened" to insult someone. At best, the graphic makes no sense; at worst, it's a self-own. Pick.

It wasn't clever; it was stupid. And "stupid" and "clever" are not synonyms--or as you might say, "synonymous words." Rather they are antonyms--or as you might say, "antonymous words."

If this pathetic pandering actually increases sales among women, then I think we as a country need to have a serious discussion about whether the 19th Amendment needs to be repealed.
