Because “personal responsibility” doesn’t really exist when we know people are more produced by their personal environment than anything else.

I agree. I have a 19 year old son. He has cut off a few kids in his life that went too far. One has a crazy story. O.D. on Fentanyl, dies, gets revived in hospital, checks out that day, takes Xanax and weed, and crashed his car into an innocent woman in the early early morning and kills her. His life is over.

    https://www.ocregister.com/2021/10/...ns-red-light-and-kills-woman-authorities-say/

I mean WTF! I met the kid a few times and told my son he was no good. Sure enough!

He had another friend, girl, not "girlfriend", that OD and died on Fentanyl. I would be scared to take any pill or powder as all these kids should be, but don't have the wisdom to know they are not bulletproof.

Fentanyl Overdose is the Number 1 cause of death for US Adults aged 18-45. The federal law enforcement agencies report that much of the illegal drugs are produced in China and enter the U.S. through Mexico. And with Biden throwing away our immigration laws, ending the building of the border wall, and leaving the doors to the countrywide open, the Mexican drug cartels are working hand-in-hand with China to flood the country with murderous, unregulated doses of the dangerous drug. Around 80% of illegal fentanyl comes through the southern border.

Shutdown the F-ing the Border and bring back Trump's policies. Process these guys in Mexico. If anyone tries to get across, fly to Falkland Islands. This is a national emergency. Troops need to be on the ground on the San Diego border entrance, because it's coming through California.

Far out. I don't mean to be rude, but how is this possible in one social circle? I have kids around the same age and the worst from their high school cohorts was one who used to drink cough medicine on weekends :D. Some of their friends drink alcohol, but most are so school/career focused that their idea of a wild night out is a firepit at someone's family home (parents included) or the local Thai restaurant .... LOL.

I live in Huntington Beach, CA. The kids that usually go crazy like this come from surrounding areas. Louie was actually from Santa Ana, not Irvine like the article said. The girl was from Garden Grove. The kids around here are very social in large groups and many cross groups.

I don't know much about the demographics of those areas (not being American!). Our kids are social and do the large groups too, but the group goes camping, or hiking, or horseback trekking, or do those firepit nights .. haha! A really late night for them is 1am, and they dislike having to stay up that late ... LOL.

Culture is a major component of one's personal environment. Should the government have programs to modify culture? If so, should the government pass laws against rap music?

Your assertion that personal responsibility does not really exist, amounts to asserting people do not have free will to make decisions. Which of course we do. The idea that a person commits murder without any personal responsibility is absurd unless the person is mentally ill.

This idea of no personal responsibility for anything is, however, the essence of liberalism.

That would be a Red State thing. Here in the heavy Blue States we have elements and people that wouldn't know about camping or outdoor (wilderness) activities. I grew up on the base of the Sierras, skiing, fishing, rafting, hunting, camping, and much more. Down here my son and I surf, hike, and dive. We are working on the entire hiking series here in Orange County and then going to figure out a good hike/camp site.

Dude, the government has a major influence on culture. What you think all of those movies that have military hardware in them uses them for free? No! The military wants to paint a picture using media. This is no different from any point in history. I mean what do you think education does? There’s a reason why you had a Christmas party in school right before Christmas. The whole idea of personal responsibility when we know governments have immense influence over our lives is just a tool to keep people down and to blame people for their misfortune when it’s actually due to government policy.

In this country the problems with habituated youth drug and alcohol abuse, are most strongly linked to wealthier urban and coastal areas. So basically if you grow up at the beach, you're ****ed ... haha! The non-coastal and poorer suburbs have more migrants, and thus less drug and alcohol abuse. The rural areas aren't so big on the drugs, and much more about the beer :D

Telling people they have no power, is the very best way to keep them down. The Welfare State has been disenfranchising the masses for decades using this tactic.

Ask yourself what the desired outcome is? Is it to empower the small man to self-determination? Or is it to create a dependent consumer, completely enslaved to the 'just in time' economy and market prices? Since it's obvious that it's the latter, now ask yourself whose interests that would be in .. because it certainly isn't the people.

That has been tried and failed since the prohibition on alcohol.

That is what turned the cities into war zones.

One definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over and expect different results each time.

War, drugs, rampant crime, lab generated pandemics, genocide etc. tend to cull the human population.

Wow, such a load of crap! Guess we should have been shining lights up our butts and drinking disinfectants like trump wanted, to cure all of this.

When trump was in office the country was coming apart at the seams. Now at least we are on the mend.

Did you want to debunk any other crackpot right-wing lies?

Yet we have legalized marijuana for recreational use in many states, such as my own, yet the consumption of illegal drugs as risen exponentially. Nearly 1,000 drug over doses a year on Colorado alone and a vast majority come from our Southern border!
