Fascism rising in a part of fragmented Russia would be easier to contain with sanctions, making large military conquest prohibitively expensive. Sanctions would affect only the fascist state, letting the rest of Russia to continue to operate normally.
Imperialism is very outdated and has no future. Look at Germany - they achieved peacefully more in terms of expansion of their economy and influence, then they did militarily during WW2. Germans did not have to kill anyone to achieve this - they just had to build up their economy and then everyone wanted to do business with them because everyone knows they are peaceful and their laws work. Nobody forced anyone to join the EU or NATO. This is the same reason so many countries long to be on American good side - everyone can see that any legitimate democracy can do business with America and benefit from it. Russians want to be like Americans, but Americans rarely force loyalty, unlike Russia, where loyalty must always be enforced with military force or bought with cheap resources.

 

Yep, the age of empires is long past and military conquest doesn't work the way it used to. Russia's despot just hasn't caught on yet, but I imagine he will by the end of this cluster.

I watch CNN a couple times a week and almost all their news is someones point of view and not actual unbiased actual news stories. They are closer to TMZ than a legit news source anymore. CNN used to be good many years ago.
