Exactly, why are you North Americans so obsessed with having to have a winner?

    Still got problems in defence.
Looking like we're trying to trade Klingberg from Dallas to improve things at the back.

Canes up, Habs down and Leafs even after first period.

    Leafs on fire tonight.
    6-0 after 2 periods.
Not the strongest of opposition in the Devils and the Leafs taking full advantage.

Leafs 2-1 ahead at the end of the 2nd against the Canes. Carolina have the best win% in the league and Toronto are holding their own against them.
Good stuff, frantic end to end game.

    Hell of a game.
I won't say what the final score was in case @CenterField hasn't seen it yet...

I didn't watch it. Went to bed early, pretty tired. The hospital has been brutal, with short staffing due to our staff catching Omicron by the dozens.

Well I guess there are more important things than hockey.

Was a great end to end game and very even. At one point at the end of the 3rd period the teams were tied 3-3 with 27 shots on goal each and face off wins equal.
Worth watching the highlights if you get the chance.

OK, I tried to watch highlights which I had hoped would preserve the suspense. Guess what the freaking title of the article was, on ESPN???
"Marner's OT goal lifts Maple Leafs past Hurricanes"
    So much for the suspense!!!
I hate it when journalists spoil it like this.
Why not have on the title, "Maple Leafs vs. Hurricanes a very hard-fought battle; watch the highlights here"

Same thing when we're watching a game live, and recording a different and simultaneous game to watch later, and it's all spoiled either by the ticker or by the narrators themselves saying "meanwhile team X has just scored against team Y and the score is now 3 to 2."

When will these people learn that in this day and age of DVR, people may want to watch multiple games without spoilers, to preserve the "as if live" feel???

Such a simple concept: focus on the game you're narrating. Don't give spoilers about other league games. If people want score updates on other games, there are plenty of apps that do that, on demand. Darn! I hate it. Major Pet Peeve.

    Bugger.
I always struggle to get through the day waiting for the F1 highlights without hearing the results somewhere.
I realise I didn't help by saying it was 3-3 at the end of the 3rd.
    Sorry about that.

That's OK, man. It's not your fault. There should be a no-spoilers culture in American sports broadcasting, but there isn't any. It's pretty hard to avoid knowledge of a score if you record it to see it later, the way we're bombarded with information these days. The only thing I can do about it, is to verify when the game starts, and from that point on, stay completely away from the Internet, TV news, anything (and I warn my son not to comment by text) until I can watch the recording. But that means, I only get to do this for one game, because during the recorded broadcast, anything else I might have an interest in watching later, gets spoiled.

I think if I started a TV/Streaming business called "The No-Spoilers Sports Network" I'd get very rich. NSSN.

It hits live sports, too. For example, say, I go to the stadium to see in-person a college football game. There is another one from the same conference, simultaneously, involving rivals, some very juicy match-up I'd like to DVR and watch at home after the game I attended in person. Well, that's impossible. In those large screens and public announcement system, they say all the time "Other conference games, School X is leading School Y 28-21, end of third quarter" and the announcement is so loud, complete with footage of the touchdowns on the large screens, it's completely impossible to avoid it. Drives me crazy.

No, but I could be... we got off of DISH(rag) Network on the 19th, and are doing YouTubeTV, which includes our local Caps channel..

However, I don't normally like to watch my fantasy Goaltenders, and I've suffered with Samsonov all year.. especially against the high scoring Leafs... I wouldn't be starting him if I had any other options, which I don't this year...

But that link is AMAZING... I have watched a dozen other games on it this year... Thanks very much!!

3-2 Leafs in the middle of the 2nd.

    Great start for the Leafs.
    5-0 shutout against Tampa.
2 for Matthews and Marner breaks his playoffs drought.
Toronto looking good in all departments.

    It's coming home...

Hopefully things have calmed down for you at work and you can find the time to watch the playoffs.
Good start for the Canes on Monday with a 5-1 win against Boston.

Work remains brutal, but yes, I'm finding the time to watch, because it's on ESPN with no blackouts so I can DVR and watch later at night. Gritty win yesterday 5-2, lots of hitting, lots of fights, our #2 goalie got injured after we had already lost our #1; we're down to our 3rd stringer (a hookie out of Russia who doesn't speak a word of English and has had only 4 NHL games under his belt, yesterday being his 4th one - did win them all) but he did well with 30 saves out of 32. We go to Boston next with a 2-0 lead and 10-3 aggregate in terms of goal scoring, after a 16-1 regular season aggregate so 26-4 in total which bodes well for the next games. Boston basically needs to win 4 out of 5 games against us, a team that is outscoring them with a ratio of 6.5:1, and I don't think they have what it takes, so I'm confident that we'll win the series. Man, we're fast. Boston can't keep up. Of course they'll be tougher to beat at their home but I just don't see them able to compete with our fast team for the overall series. Maybe they'll win a couple but I think a 4-2 series victory is likely, unless they manage to knock out our #3 goalie as well. Brind'Amour is very mad at them for targeting our goalie. I never liked Boston. They are dirty. However, we're being as tough as they are. Gotta give those thugs a dose of their own medicine. God, I hate Boston.

Leafs got spanked yesterday, despite their great game 1. One can never discount Tampa Bay.

Yeah, I think the goalie was the difference last night and maybe a bit more puck luck went Tampa's way.
The Leafs had as many chances but just couldn't convert them.
    I'm not disheartened though.
They didn't roll over when they went 5-1 behind.
It was always going to be a close series.
They need to get an away win now to even it up.

Refs seemed to be stricter than usual in the playoffs.
Lots of penalties in both games.
Normally I would say that would benefit a skills team like the Leafs who have been too soft in the past but so far they've been the most physical and the penalties hurt them last night.

Leafs and Hurricanes are playing at overlapping times so I can't watch both even on DVR because they keep showing the score of the other game which would function as spoiler for my team's game, but you have my support for the Leafs. I don't want to see Tampa Bay repeating. But yes, my comment re: spanking was when I saw the score already 5-1 for Tampa so I was under that impression; I didn't know that the Leafs did get closer by the end. Sure, let's hope that the Leafs get an away win.

Re: the hospital, although the Omicron wave went away, we were left with several vacancies that were never replaced. People quit, retired, the works, especially the ones who didn't want the mandatory vaccines (good riddance; so stupid of health care workers to decline vaccines!). So the work remains brutal. No respite whatsoever. We're desperately trying to fill vacancies with Locum Tenens, with little success. I get home exhausted and late; but I do DVR the Hurricanes' games and try to stay awake to watch before going to bed. My poor wife hates sports and is particularly bothered by the sounds of live sports but I have a Bluetooth headset that connects wirelessly directly to my DVR so I can watch with no sound disturbing her sleep.

Yeah, Marner and Kerfoot got one each towards the end.
I'd bring Spezza back in Simmonds' place tonight if it were me. Simmonds cost us too many penalties.
