A friend of mine suggested this place so I've joined and we'll see how it goes. But first, some background.

The handle comes from years of being a guitarist and organizing a jazz jam in my town about a decade or so ago. It's a reference to a couple of things. First my then young son's obsession with the movie Small Soldiers. In that movie the chief bad guy toy is a grumpy, cigar chomping Sergeant Malarkey who gets deactivated by a big EMP blast at the end resulting in some hilarious riffing in the car one day from my son about, you guessed it, pieces of Malarkey. The second is my father's favorite comic, Pogo. In the cartoons, which I also came to love, there's a character called Simple J. Malarkey, a caricature of Joseph McCarthy. Anyways, needed a band name and that seemed to work nicely. And it predates Biden's "No Malarkey" tour nonsense by at least a decade. The band, such as it is, still exists as a weird little thing I do in my basement that has it's own Facebook page (who needs to pay for a webpage when FB lets you post crappy videos for free?).

Politically I'm safely characterized as a conservative, grumpy curmudgeon who's earned the bad attitude in the actual trenches. I'm an automotive engineer by trade with a lot of experience, both in and out of government, in automotive regulation. To boil everything down, I see the Supreme Court's 2007 decision in Massachusetts v. EPA as the heart of all that's wrong with current American politics. I've written about it here:

    https://www.americanthinker.com/art...bal_warming_policy_will_wreck_your_truck.html

The only thing the editors removed from the article that I really liked was that if they really do decide to come for your pickup truck, there's always the F450. At 14,000 lbs. GVWR, they can't touch it. And I'm currently watching West Virginia v. EPA as the potential obliteration of the whole "global warming" nonsense.

At this point, happy to be here. Fire away.

Happy hunting here. It should be a pleasure to read your comments and narratives. When it comes to CO2, there are LOTS of fear merchants here, breathlessly (I know, the irony right?) screaming about its dangers to the environment and life as we know it. I suspect that you will bump into them on those threads that it is discussed on. See you around.

Me too, although I've always voted Republican as the lesser of 2 evils. If I had a party affiliation it would be anything but DC.

His opening post would have been at least another paragraph or two longer if he was at the DMV.

Hello and good to meet you!
Do you hate ethanol too? I hate ethanol that stupid crap is good for nothing but gumming up carburetors and fuel injectors.

We've gone through a number of chain saws, tillers, weed whackers and other gas consuming yard tools through the years. Now, we pay more for the 100% gas, but aren't replacing the tools as often.

It's the only thing I'll put in my 79cc 4-stroke bicycle motor if I can help it. It's 91 octane and it's 4.80 something a gallon versus 4.19 for the ethanol b*******

Yeah, it's got a number of disadvantages- you forgot that if you have a cherry old Chris-Craft boat that hasn't had the fuel system updated to ethanol-tolerant materials, the fuel system will erode and leak sinking you investment. And it actually reduces you fuel economy- not that noticeable at 10% ethanol, but if you go to E85 like EPA's been pushing for a couple decades now it's something like a 25% reduction in fuel economy (alcohols have about 60% of the energy content of petroleum). But my career's been centered a lot around dealing with the EPA.

If you really want to see what a monster they are, check out West Virginia v. EPA and Gorsuch's questions about "major questions doctrine". That's another case set to be decided here shortly and it has the possibility of blowing up the whole "global warming/global cooling/climate change" affront to logic. Probably won't affect ethanol in fuel (different problem) but still fun.

You had me at Chris-Craft..... I can still hear the lub-lub-lub-LUB-lub of my Grandaddy's twin inboard......

The ethanol has caused more problems then it 'fixes'.

I too am a new poster living in the DMV. I’ve lurked here from time to time. I have been a member of another message board for a long time and I’m kind of sick of it. @Dayton3 you know me as Federal Farmer. This place seems interesting so we’ll see how it plays out.

    Hello and welcome.

I look forward to reading some of your Posts and learning about some of your interests and opinions.

I fully believe that people can have different opinions and still discuss them with civility and mutual respect.
After all, we're all lucky enough to have electricity and computers so there's no reason not to enjoy both while learning about people from other places.

    Good luck and have fun.

Nuance has been lost on some people, but I agree that you can have a different opinion than me without it turning into a yelling match.

Wouldn't you love to have the money back on things that have been ruined by ethanol?
