I know quite well how things COULD look like, I have lived my first 28 years in Germany before coming to the US. There, nobody was ever worried about getting a call from the school because a crazy was able to buy unlimited guns and start shooting up school kids. No, only in America, where there are more guns than citizens and 18 year old kids with a mental health problem can run to the next gun store and buy assault rifles, ammo and body armor ... and nobody blinks an eye.

It’s not only in America. Mass shootings occur all over. They have them in Mexico frequently, same thing in El Salvador and Honduras. They happen all over Africa, Asia and Europe, and a few years ago Canada had a mass shooting with more than twenty victims. The US has the most mass shootings, but take away the gang shootings and we’re average or better.

 

Regarding the only in America bit, liberals are taught (brainwashed) to think America more or less sucks. Every news event is seen in that context. But then they demand all immigrants be allowed to come here and never question why these immigrants would want to to come here. Political crimes are on the rise in Germany.

My feeling about Campbell was always that he largely made up that whole business. I studied mythology and never heard anything like that. Star Wars was Spielberg's last hurrah before he started doing training films. It was supposed to be "camp" 'so bad it's good' then somebody at Psychology Today noticed how close Darth Vader was to "Dark Invader" and 50 or so films later they're still doing "Shane" in Space.

OTOH I always thought "The Lord of the Rings" was a truly overblown children's story while "Dune" was going to be the 60s Story For the Ages and "Lord of Light" was better than both of them. You win some, then you lose again.

Exactly. The cause is always mental illness. The reason is just what the crazy person happened to chance upon as an excuse. It could have been anything ... taxes, tall people, animal rights, anarchy, environmental warriorism .. anything. The dude was always going to do what he did.
