What is your relationship with Western civilisation?

    More comfortable than any other civilization I know of.

    No civilization is perfect, so yes.

    I think it would be bad for the world overall if it suddenly vanished.

    Good things have been done and bad things have been done, including horrific atrocities against other humans. If we applaud the good things, we must condemn the bad ones.

    Commitment to free inquiry, science, and democracy. And a willingness to be critical of itself.

    In the short term? That depends on how we adapt to resources running dry, and that depends at least in part on where technology takes us.

    I'm not sure what would count as Western civilization ending, but I suppose that given enough time, humanity is going to wipe itself out.

    It's true that they never got the Renaissance or Enlightenment as the West did. Early Islam was a lot more open to new ideas than contemporary Christianity. Later Islam became more dogmatic.

    Also, the West as it came to be was heavily influenced by Islamic civilization, partly just by the preservation of classical texts that had been lost. If we're tracing the ancestry of modern Western civilization, Islamic civilization is part of that ancestry.
