    It's a very small amount of money and not all of that is going to the FDA.

    But I admit I'm not an expert on procurement. I humbly suggest though, neither are you.

    Btw I'm no fan of the FDA - among other things with their attempts to hide genetically modified labelling.

    Bacteria grows because of poor cleaning standards or poor machine maintenance. It means a leader made a decision. Someone in Abbott was criminally negligent.

    But, by US government standards, this is a microscopic amount of money....

    In fact, when I first saw this (and the amount), I thought it was mostly a political statement to try and show us the government is doing something...

    Then the GOP mostly votes no, and they made it a NEGATIVE political statement.. Morons.....

    Only 2% is imported, but when the Abbott facility was closed down in Michigan, it impacted the availability significantly.

    the lack of formula isn’t due to lack of money. I understand you Democrats think money is like a magic wand and can cure any problem but ya’all really need to start thinking a lot deeper than “oh there’s a problem we don’t understand and need mind reading capabilities to foresee, let’s throw money at it!”

    Pretty funny a bill to throw money at government agencies that will do nothing to actually produce formula or speed up the production, is being used as intellectually bankrupt political theatre to try to spin the issue like its republicans who hate babies and not the moronic democrats who caused the problem in the first place.

    and of course the Libs on this board lap at it like it’s not dry tits from a transgender.

    Where should they be throwing money? There are new measures in place that will allow parents currently using WIC to purchase foreign formula. But the FDA will have to step up their role to ensure all imported and newly produced formulas will meet health standards. Increased production requires increased oversight which requires additional staff - and on and on it goes.

    So babies are being hospitalized as we speak but let’s first make sure European formula meets all our onerous health standards even though they clearly aren’t killing or harming European babies.

    glad we didn’t take that logic with the covid vaccine development or it would still be in the testing phase…

    If their formulas are significantly different, it could pose a health problem for many babies. You can't just switch them around on formulas. We are seeing babies in hospital now because parents tried that.

    Of all the things I'm happy to see regulated, baby formula is high on the list.

    Right, I figured that. What I'm on about is this is suddenly a problem that has the stink of politics involved? Are we giving illegals free baby crap as well as other things? I'm 100% sure Americans should be first on the list of things like handouts.

    so American babies require special formulas but European babies don’t.

    sorry, there’s no fundamental difference between European babies and American ones. They have special needs babies and so do we, and they somehow don’t kill or harm their special needs babies. Does it really take massive amounts of money to figure out which European formula matches with the needs of which American baby?
