If I was the parent of a baby with NO formula available, I would be willing to take what I can get. Most are intelligent enough to find the one closest to what they were using. The option of just letting baby go hungry is much worse than some digestive upset for switching.

Okay you do realize most of the money was going to the FDA that created the mess in the first place. Only in DC among Democrats is it considered good form to reward incompetence with more money.

I'm not disputing that - the post to which you responded was in response to criticisms that the FDA doesn't need to get involved with the imports and no regulations should be required on formulas coming in from Europe.

    Easy enough

Bette Midler slammed for suggesting women breastfeed amid baby formula shortage
    https://finance.yahoo.com/news/bette-midler-slammed-suggesting-women-230913422.html

    Hows that

    Guess again
If they really wanted to fix the problem they would lift all the new restrictions they put against the Sturgis, Michigan Abbott facility by the Biden FDA when they found no contaminates or deadly bacteria in their products.

There was no easing of restrictions by the FDA, there was no reopening plan from the FDA and not even an apparent awareness of the consequences of their actions until there was a critical shortage of formula but the loony left thinks giving the FDA 28 million will produce more baby formula.

Just maybe if you actually read the bill before regurgitating what you're commanded to regurgitate, we could find a way to produce more formula instead of dumping 28 million in salaries to the FDA

The vote by Repubs to deny funds for the FDA, “FDA does not have the adequate inspection force to be able to do that and to do it in a timely way,” DeLauro, D-Conn., said. “So the crux of this is providing infrastructure ... in order to do what needs to get done. And that is about, as quickly as possible, how we get product in and get it on the shelves.” is just more performative theater as Repubs play their make believe role as stewards of taxpayer's money.

If you had actually read the bill, instead of slurping up leftist propaganda, you would have known why even some Democrats voted against the bill.
It does NOTHING to provide more baby formula. Its a bill that gives Bidens FDA cronies, 28 million in additional salaries. Giving the FDA millions of dollars is not going to produce one ounce of baby formula.

But they had more than sufficient force to cause the problem in the first place.

Funny how there were no hungry babies and we had $2 gas when Republicans ran the country.

Only problem we had was democrats burning down the country and murdering people.

Give this one a few days folks before you start with the liberal condemnation . There is a lot of speculation and no real look into why...

Granger Remarks on H.R. 7790, Infant Formula Supplemental Appropriations Act

    https://republicans-appropriations....nfant-formula-supplemental-appropriations-act

I have four concerns about the bill.

First, the bill does nothing to force the FDA to come up with a plan to address the shortage.

Second, it does nothing to address whether federal agencies have excess formula that could be directed to American households.

Third, it fails to leverage the federal government’s existing capabilities to transport formula.

And finally, the bill gives the FDA an additional $28 million, when funds are already available to address this issue.

Let's have closer look at why Republicans reject it...

    https://barrymoore.house.gov/media/...rats-ineffective-solution-self-inflicted-baby

“Asking taxpayers to bail the government out of a crisis it created and let fester for months is Washington at its worst,” said Moore. “For Democrats, the only solution to every government-caused problem seems to be more government. The antidote after being poisoned is never to take a second dose.”

""the Biden Administration is sitting on $1 billion that the Department of Agriculture could use to address issues like this one.""

From those that brought you "They're trying to kill grandma" a new product "They're trying to starve babies" is available for those that suckle partisan formula from their party's nipple.

But wait!!! If you order now, we will include abandoning kittens. (Just pay separate shipping and handling!)

    Fake News.
Republicans supported one baby formula shortage bill but opposed the other, that lacks a plan to fix the problem.

"The U.S. House of Representatives passed two bills to address the baby formula shortage Wednesday, with one vote far more partisan than the other and one measure covered up the real problem."

"The House voted 414-9 to pass H.R. 7791, a measure that would allow low-income women to purchase more baby formula through the federal Women, Infant and Children (WIC) program."

"In a more partisan vote, 231-192, the House passed H.R. 7790, the Infant Formula Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2022. The bill provides $28 million in emergency appropriations for the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to address the shortage of FDA-regulated infant formula and prevent further shortages, including efforts to "prevent fraudulent products from entering the United States market.""

Republicans Said No To The Extremist Bill, Yes To The Sensible Bill.
Pelosi proposed the bad bill "in hopes of covering up the administration’s ineptitude by throwing additional money at the FDA with no plan to actually fix the problem, all while failing to hold the FDA accountable." The brave fighting GOP do not support covering up for the FDA even while the Dems line their pockets further.

The GOP bill actually addresses the shortage, "the Babies Need More Formula Now Act. That bill would increase the supply of baby formula by lifting restrictions on the importation of infant formula and reducing barriers to innovation by new brands." With more suppliers, we will not have the national supply dependent on a few companies that if shut down results in catastrophe. This is the sensible risk strategy of "spreading of risk."

"The GOP bill would also establish oversight and accountability at the FDA to ensure that the agency can act quickly to maintain a healthy supply of baby formula in the future. "

Top level Dems of course, have zero interest in that, they just want to cover up and spend while lavishing even more money on the failed Executive Branch Agency.

It was the Biden administration's "bureaucratic bungling" that gave us this crisis.

The out-of-stock rate increased from between 2% and 8% in the first half of 2021, and Biden and the FDA sat on their lavishly funded asses and did nothing. Then the out of stock rate increased to 23% in January and Biden and the FDA sat on their lavishly funded asses and did nothing some more. Then finally when it hit 33% in April suddenly the Dems went into damage control, which is spend more money and don't solve the problem while pointing fingers at everyone but themselves.

    Here is another Republican statement...
Rep. Gohmert Issues Statement on FDA Baby Formula Vote

"Giving the FDA millions of dollars is not going to produce one ounce of baby formula. Getting the FDA out of the way would accomplish that new production. The lengthy and heavy-handed complete shutdown and subsequent investigation of the Sturgis, Michigan Abbott facility in mid-February by the Biden FDA found no deadly bacteria in their products. There was no easing of restrictions by the FDA, there was no reopening plan from the FDA and not even an apparent awareness of the consequences of their actions until there was a critical shortage of formula available to America’s mothers who were unable to feed their infants.

"President Biden and his masses of bureaucrats have done nothing for months to alleviate or mitigate the problem, but now want the Democrats in Congress to throw more money at their bureaucratic friends out of a desire to, as Democrats have said before, avoid letting 'a good crisis go to waste.’ Creating a bigger deficit and increasing inflation, while using even more money to create bigger, more dysfunctional government is not a solution, no matter how attractive that may sound to some in the media.

"The FDA got us into this mess and they cannot get us out of it. Enabling Abbott to reopen its facility swiftly and removing burdensome government restrictions and regulations from safe baby formula from overseas would be a more efficient solution.”

It's government bureaucracy they never have enough money. 28 million to day and if you get lucky 5 years from now you might get a solution.

Sure, if it’s coming from China. Chinas very good at F-ing things up. Hard to trust China much about anything nowadays. Excellent point.

The Democrat answer to everything - more government spending.

Maybe if they weren't shutting down formula plants there wouldn't be this problem.

At no time did I recommend starvation. If you think back to how our exchange began, I was asserting that there are regulations in place here in America - and the FDA will have to ensure that imported formulas meet requirements. From there, well, it devolved.

Exactly. Until the government, which caused this problem and let it get to the point of crisis, gets its act together, whenever the hell that would be, you are okay with babies going to the hospital and if need be, die. Cool

You don't think that the 17.5% tariff on formula plays a role? You don't think that the USMCA affected Canada's production?

That has to be one of the stupidest most hyperbolically hysterical straw man I've ever seen someone launch around here.

Congratulations you've crossed a new low bar
