Unless you need to draw off it in the near term, it really doesn't matter that much. They should recover before most participants get anywhere near retirement. In the mean time, your new contributions are buying in at a low instead of at a high so it is better off in the long run for younger to middle age contributors.

you always should dollar-cost-average, but that doesn't change the fact that Democrat policies have harmed the regular folk.

Yeah exactly. OP has a serious case of confirmation bias and I am calling them out on it.

Guess that depends on who you consider "regular folk". I think that their student loan efforts that conservatives oppose could help a lot of regular folk, for instance, but that may be because most of the people I know and work with have college educations. I certainly think that their energy policies have been a train wreck for everybody, especially once Biden went all in on Russian sanctions, but hopefully the market will shift and sort that out over time.

Thanks! I agree that there is always a cost. It would be very nice if there wasn't, but there almost always is, for a myriad of reasons.
The idea that we have plenty of resources in the ground is not entirely true. The reason that UAE has built up Dubai into a middle eastern playground is that UAE has determined that they only have enough oil to last another 20-30 years, so they are changing their basic economy, anticipating running out of oil to sell.
It takes a long time to change things, and 20-30 years isn't a long time, so these things have to be implemented way before getting there, or, suffer the consequences of not being prepared for it.
Best example I can think of is the exploration of Mars. One could say we shouldn't be wasting the billions of dollars and the resources to explore Mars. Why do we when we're fine here on Earth? Because, at some point, we will have to leave this planet to survive as a species. Period. And to do that, and colonize somewhere else, will take an enormous amount of preparation. If you wait until it's too late, well...........
Again, the attitude of my way or the highway can't be used in these cases. Nothing will get done that way. Most of the Green Deal people actually understand that, but they also know that they won't get what they want when they want it, so they shoot high, aim low.
Unfortunately, that scares some people because they think short term and can't see the need for expedience.
It's going to take a planetary effort to get this done, like the energy issues.
Couldn't agree more with your statement about the planet healing itself. But it does take time, and if the damage is being done faster than the planet can heal, we will be in trouble someday. Maybe you and I will be ok in our lifetimes. I probably have 10-20 years left.
But what will our great grandchildren have to deal with?
The stuff we put off, to save ourselves a buck.

Conservatives and everyone else should oppose the student loan aka vote buying proposal.

I suggest that everyone review this video now and then

No, this is the result of allowing ourselves to pin our retirement hopes on the stock market.

Why does townhall care? This is the conservative dream. no more commie pensions and defined retirement benefits, you can make your own path by investing for your retirement! I got that right out of the pamphlet, so what are you complaining about?

And I will keep calling you out on this bullshit schtick of yours. The website isn't the source, they're just the ones posting the information. The stock market is the source.

The article is about the stock market numbers. If those numbers are false in the article, say so, otherwise learn what a source is and enter the discussion, on topic preferably....or just leave.

But either way, attacking the website, which again is not the source, is a huge red flag that you are just trying to deflect because you have no real argument whatsoever.

The same people who authorize spending under Obama and Biden.

Just wondering why you tried to leave out facts in your point.

Not only is SS not keeping up with inflation we in retirement are having to lower our 401K/IRA withdrawals because of the drop in value, the 4% rule has become the 4% rule, and those dollars we are taking out are worth less everyday. And there is no moving everything in the bond market or cash because both those are losing.

Will Congress pass an emergency COLA for those on Social Security, we can't just go to the boss and demand more money or move to another plan that pays more. We were trapped into Social Security.

And desire they flip the bias in your preferred direction. Lol.

Essentially, you are saying "go check my preferred bias sources, and if they don't report on it, I'm not accepting it".

    It's all silliness.

We have 47 years of PROVEN oil reserves left.

More of oil that hasn't been found or proven.

We also have 50+ years of natural gas.

I think going to other limited resources like lithium is a bad plan.

In my opinion, we should be transitioning to nuclear power to generate hydrogen. Hydrogen will power everything, nuclear and hydrogen are 99.9% green.

It's my opinion that energy storage will be the next disaster to avert.

Bear Market appears to have arrived.

First Half Has Been A Nightmare What We Should Expect To See During The 2nd Half Of 2022
    [IMG]
"Most Americans are working as hard as they can, but our standard of living is being systematically destroyed by the very foolish policies of our leaders..."

#1 "Gas prices will continue to surge higher, and many Americans will be shocked by how high they eventually go. "Make room for double-digit pricing”… That is $10 a gallon or more.

    Look for diesel rationing.

#2 Extended blackouts: "About 100 million Americans face power blackouts this summer as roasting weather, overstretched power plants and unreliable green energy sources combine to create a perfect storm of problems."

#3 "Food prices will continue to rise. Of course they have already reached levels" that are absolutely insane

#4 "Shortages will continue to intensify. The extreme baby formula shortage that we are witnessing right now" is just a preview of coming attractions… "Two children in Memphis have been hospitalized after needing IV fluids and nutritional support due to the" Biden "baby formula shortage."

"The preschooler and toddler, both from different families, were rushed to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital after their parents failed to secure formula as shelves across America go bare."

They have no shortage of formula.

#5 "The UN is telling us that we are heading into the worst global food crisis since World War II."

#6 "Widespread hunger will almost certainly lead to more civil unrest. Recent events in Sri Lanka give us an indication of what may be coming… Protesters in Sri Lanka have burned down homes belonging to 38 politicians as the crisis-hit country plunged further into chaos, with the government ordering troops to “shoot on sight.”"

#7 "The Federal Reserve is likely to continue to aggressively raise interest rates. In fact, Fed Chair Jerome Powell is openly admitting that his institution’s battle against inflation could cause “some pain” in the months ahead…"

#8 "Higher interest rates will be devastating for the housing market in the United States. And that is very troubling news, because home sales have already fallen for three months in a row…"

#9 "Defaults are likely to continue to rise higher. Just like we saw right before the last financial crisis, defaults on subprime loans" are really starting to surge

#10 "As the economy slows expect layoffs to increase and jobless claims to spike. In fact, we just learned that they have now hit" a four month high.

#11 "All of this bad economic news is going to be really bad for stock prices. The S&P 500 has already nearly fallen into bear market territory, and many believe that what we have witnessed so far" is just the beginning.

#12 "A recession is either already here or will arrive soon. Americans are increasingly becoming more pessimistic about the economy. 85 percent of Americans believe that it is “very likely” or “somewhat likely” that there will be a recession at some point in the next year…"

The questionable 2020 election left morons in charge of national policy and they promptly destroyed everything. Nov will be the Restoration Election. The GOP is in notice, we expect them to immediately get to work and put things in order, without delay or excuse.

That isn't that much time when you think about how long it takes to convert.
Agree with you 100% about the lithium, and other means. But it's the best we have right now for rechargable batteries.
Since we're traipsing down this road, I think helium3 is the future, it's rare on Earth, but abundant on the moon. I think this is where the commercial investment in space travel is headed, mining and bringing to Earth H3 from the moon. Getting tons of material from space to the planet surface will be a huge undertaking, but I think it will be worth it.
Look at you, the conservationist! lol
We'll be unchaining you from trees before long!

Yes. I prefer they find an unbiased issue in which common ground with all posters may be achieved. To help promote debate and prevent PF from devolving into echo chambers.

So if you know the OP has access to a better source, and you know the foundations to any argument are it’s sources, then ponder a second. Why would the OP use a source known for manipulating facts when they could have cited a better one? Answer: Because the OP doesn’t have a good argument and is trying to debate people under false pretenses. In other words? We have strong reasons to suspect the OP is lying. My argument is simply- the OP cannot defend their position because they rely on bad sources.

The hyperbole of the OP is perhaps typical of the discourse of our times. "Wiped out", applied to a relatively small percent decrease in the DJIA, stands as an example.

This poor old country mouse is reminded of the tale of Chicken Little.

Regards, stay safe 'n well 'n remember the Big 5.

As much as the dems may try, there is no more defending of this administration. Between record high inflation, extremely high fuel prices, stocks crashing, people losing their retirement funds, illegals flooding the border, empty grocery shelves, sending billions to other countries while our families suffer. Mid terms are coming and dems know what will happen, 2024 will be the easiest win for the republicans.

The source isn't the website. What part of that don't you understand?

The source is the stock market and the white house comments on them, of which there's video of. Which one of those is a bad source when they are the very topic of conversation here?

Whining about the website that posts that information is a dead giveaway you have nothing.
