Just a little fact you may not be aware of.... Individuals ALSO have access to bankruptcy. Millions optimize this protection annually.

Least not forget what innovative, independent, smaller companies spawned out of the telephone monopoly breakup. How many jobs were lost during that dissolvement? Hint... Actually jobs grew.

Pay attention, he knows individuals can access bankruptcy.

I think what he is getting at is, after the Republican 'Bankruptcy Reform Act', things got quite a bit easier for business, and harder for individuals, and downright nasty and vindictive to students.

We badly need to reform the so called reform act.

Student loans became garbled when the US government took over student loans. It made it nearly impossible to declare bankruptcy on a federally guaranteed loan. I do think people, when financially bankrupt, should have the same protections on student loans as their other loans.

Regarding consumer bankruptcy, do tell what you think should be changed (outside of student loans)? Do you think a person should be granted more bankruptcies than is currently provided? You've intrigued me so curiosity is now stoked.

You are right, it was a 1-2 punch as hard hit industries were trying to exit COVID. First, Dementia Joe Creepy Whispered about how funding a national strike against business would drive up real wages, he's a moron and instead real wages have been crushed and shortages have spread throughout the economy.

And then you are right, that was followed by the unconstitutional OSHA mandate that left industry scrambling trying to be prepared to comply. Again, Dementia Joe thought this was quite "clever". There is a cost to having complete idiots and morons in charge of national policy, but, the American Working and Middle Class continues to show up and soldier on while we get to the next election and hopefully get some more qualified folks in office.

The Republican Bankruptcy Reform act was what made it impossible to discharge student debt in bankruptcy.

That is a good and valid question. But that controversy is not new, and I'm old and tired. It should be easy to find if you want it.

You know as well as I why student loans are vastly harder to discharge through chapter 7 as everyone could get their liberal arts degree and then file chapter 7. Institutions would be defunct.

Students can still file chapter 13.

Interesting.. So I should look on the interweb thingy to find out your personal opinion of how bankruptcy laws should be changed. At least name me a couple sources where you get your talking points and I'll see what opinion you might have. Should I start with CNN?

You should look to what bankruptcy judges and academics said before the BRA passed.

    They hated it.

This is quiet ridiculous. The breakup was forced by the government, and people who worked there simply kept their jobs when the company was split... specifically... split. You can't compare this with a bankruptcy of a company where a company doesn't split, but vanishes, and the employers all lose their jobs. And we were discussing bankruptcies. Something you don't seem to get.

    You are also not addressing:
I don't think you know how bankruptcy works for individuals. You're flat out ignoring the negative consequences of that. It's not as if a bankrupt person gets replaced with a nice new innovative person so we can ignore the bankrupted one.

The left has a problem, is big CEO's getting a massive bonus even when their company is in very dire need of financial aid. And they are getting that aid at the expense of taxpaying joe the plumber who gets fired from those CEO's. Because they got money for themselves and their stockowners, but none for the company or the people who make the profit happen by doing the actual work.

    Safety is important as well.

But they seem to be on it.

FDA announces it will make it easier to import some baby formulas to ease shortage

Btw Republicans have falsely suggested shortages are down to the Biden administration sending baby formula to undocumented immigrants. The amount purchased for migrants is statistically the equivalent of zero in terms of market share.

Not my idea, but it is reality though, unfortunately.

Like most issues, homeless is a complex issue here and no, we are not talking about professional hobos here, a lifestyle of days past. Considering food stamps is not enough to live on, people will do what they can in order to make ends meet. In some cases, poor people may resort to stealing, selling drugs, becoming drug mules, women becoming prostitutes, etc. Despite the plethora of nonprofit organizations, churches, and government assistance, that is still not enough to deal with homelessless.

And yet they don't. That's why there is such a homelessness problem .. people refusing to do what's needed to either avoid it or escape it.

Consider ... all you have to do to avoid homelessness is follow the golden rules. Get married and stay married, don't have kids you can't afford, don't be an addict, and get and keep any job you can find - no matter how humble.

All you have to do to escape homelessness if you're already there, is give up any addictions, make sure you're a reliable, responsible, and trustworthy family member, and accept that you cannot expect to live alone in your own independent home.

If people aren't doing these things, then they're not doing anything like 'what they can' to make ends meet.

Although there are no accurate or reliable statistics, that I know of about the relationship between addiction, drug and/or alcohol, and poverty, people in poverty are more likely to be addicted to drugs and/or alcohol, hard alcohol, than the additional income they earn under the table goes to that habit. Furthermore, people in poverty are also more likely to have untreated mental health issues, generally chronic, that may prevent them from getting better, making better choices, etc. Some pooe persons may be phyically unable as well given their physical, and dehabilitating, disability,

You see, this all intertwined. It is not anyone's fault per se, but as a society, we have a nasty stigma attached to people of poverty that has prevailed in this country. And that is the first problem we need to solve. After that, then society will be more willing and able to provide the necessary help. And the poor who are drug and/or alcohol addicted are more likely to be homeless, which is another issue altogether.

my grandma made 50 cents an hour when little, many said the same types of things back then

now if inflation out paces wages for too long, then we have an issue - long due a min wage increase

I thought that was the point of the whole "Great resignation"? You forced companies to pay higher wages, well above the minimum wage which now we are seeing the fruits of your labors. Now you get to pay the same prices for a chitty McD's quarter pounder as you do for a sit down restaurant burger.

Granted, I see an expedited move to get to more AI restaurants sooner, rather than later if they want to survive.

Corporate greed has nothing to do with it. I'd say it has more to do with consume greed. The problem is there are adults that do not have the skills to earn a living wage. We've become a society of entitlement. If people would put as much effort into taking from others and apply that to a skill, then we might be a productive society. Until then, just keep handing out trophies to losers.

No dude .. the poverty is a RESULT of the same poorly managed impulses which lead to addiction and interpersonal problems. You have it backwards.

People are less likely to have mental health issues if they're raised in intact, stable, responsible families (again, nothing to do with wealth).

Yes, it's all intertwined because it's all part of the same problem. Even subconsciously, most of us are aware that in the First World, a lot of it is self-inflicted. Hence what you call 'stigma'.

I do agree that we need to solve this terrible (and growing) problem as a society, though. Each of us has to make the commitment to be that intact, stable, responsible family in which children are raised. Each of us has to commit to avoiding self-indulgences which harm the next generation. Etc etc. That's SOCIETY making a difference ... and the only way this problem will ever be solved. "Providing help" just allows another generation to slack off and do it wrong.
