    • Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is the latest education concern among parents who are worried about the state of the American education system.
    • “Critical Race Theory is the ideology, but Social Emotional Learning is the delivery system,” Jennifer McWilliams, a parental rights education consultant, told The Daily Caller News Foundation.
    • “What could end up happening at the end of the day is that these mental health initiatives work to reshape students’ minds towards certain worldviews that might be inherently opposed to the values of their parents,” Max Eden, research fellow for the American Enterprise Institute, told TheDCNF.
Critical Race Theory (CRT) isn’t the only three-word phrase that has parents concerned; Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is the latest curriculum headache that education experts warn is permeating the American public school system.

SEL purports to teach students social skills that aid their mental health and emotional wellbeing, yet has been criticized as both a tenet of and a euphemism for CRT, which has become a hot button issue among parents, teachers and politicians concerned about the state of the country’s public schools. Educators are teaching gender ideology and race essentialism under the guise of SEL, education experts told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

“It’s a game of semantics,” Jennifer McWilliams, a parental rights education consultant, told TheDCNF, characterizing SEL as an umbrella term used to implement left-wing ideas.…

The education reporter for the Daily Caller News Foundation has reported on many interesting findings regarding our public schools. They are using CRT and disguising it under other categories trying to hide it from the students parents. The investigative report shows many methods and tactics school boards and teachers unions are using to circumvent the wishes of the parents and the values and traditions of our culture and history.

The teachers Union and blue school boards are trying to take kids away from their parents by teaching them everything that they oppose being taught to their children. They are waging a war against parents for the minds of their children

That’s why the author is an education news reporter and it’s the Daily Caller News Foundation, not their op Ed section

SEL was developed in Asia to help students prevent suicide. In japan, suicide is one of the leading causes of deaths among Japanese teens prior to the development of SEL. WE just adopted it and applied it to our own educational system. In Japan, it's called the Three C's. We adopted it and called it SEL. Both have the same basic tenants.

If conservatives are against SEL, then they are against the necessary prevention and required help for those who have stressed academically at school, along with the social pressures at school. That is a lot of pressure for a junior high or high school student to bear no matter what your political preference is.

Honestly I am so confused about why conservatives hate this so much. All it’s saying is that kids need help process emotions. It’s not a complicated process or anything. It’s understanding how a kid feels about something. It’s not some boogie man.

According to a leaked draft letter from the NSBA, these folks wanted the Biden administration to invoke the military to intimidate and protect schools from the terrorist parents they fear so much...

Rightists have made it a habit to create boogie men in every facet of life. It's what they do.

I don’t think it’s that. I just genuinely think conservatives have so much emotional baggage that they can’t process it. So asking to process their feelings is hard for them, triggers a defensive reaction.

I love how in all the SEL videos for kids, the morons who don’t understand what empathy is, the ones who show anger and intolerance are ALWAYS white kids having to be corrected by minorities.

If they weren’t so blatantly racist and obvious about it it might be funny.

School boards are elected by the parents in question. So whose fault is this if there is any truth to it?

Clearly the fault lies with the voters - the parents. They are the ones ultimately responsible for what gets taught in their local schools.

Or are the school boards doing exactly what they were supposed to do? I guess you would have to ask the parents who put them in power. And if not, then why haven't they been recalled?

Gonna ban chocolate milk in the cafeteria next because Mrs. Nixon had a respectable Republican cloth coat and that was good enough?

No white kid said anything. They’re cartoons. They’re portraying the white kids as being stupid and evil/mean who always need to be corrected for their intolerant ways.

Really? Who sees racists behind every tree? Who is claiming white people pose the most lethal threat to this country? And the one that will never be beat no matter how hard they try, the world is going to end in 12 years.

Conservatives have emotional baggage? We're not the ones asking for safe spaces or losing control over our bowels if a the wrong pronoun is used. It takes a lot of emotion to riot, mostly hate, and who does 99.9% of the rioting in the country?

No, his point is that it's ALWAYS whites who are criticized for being racist when anyone with a month's worth of education in an extremely minority-high area (such as mine, where a White or Asian stands out like a unicorn) would demonstrate there's racism in pretty much every race out there. So, one has to wonder what the agenda is. Or one should, unless there's a great deal of politically-motivated incuriousness involved.

The people elected likely hadn't even heard of this when they were voted in. I work in a district where - for different reasons - the school board was voted out within years for pissing off large groups of people. You gotta wait for election days for that to happen, so it could take years. I'm unclear what you're asking for, instant elections of the school board like an instant recall?

On the one hand, we have the left thinking the voters are idiots for wanting to vote people out who don't share their views *cough*"I don't think parents should be telling schools what they should teach."*cough* or is it why AREN'T they voting them out because it's the parents fault? Which way do you want it?

What are you talking about? This is so typical of the left - they accuse others of what they do. See Clinton if you need examples.

Sure… whatever you need to tell yourself. My bet is you probably live next to people who share similar political beliefs as your own?

Right but is that more indicative of ShadowX or the system at large? Because I have heard lots of stories that examines racism from different racial perspectives. Now if they’re happening in the classroom? That’s a different matter but it’s not always white and black. It just unfortunately gets dumbed down to that level.
