The US wants to leave Ukraine at least some territory that can be used for its missile bases to attack Russia.
    -------------------------------
The West should stop trying to defeat Russia at the hands of the Ukrainian army in order to avoid catastrophe in Europe, said former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger. The Telegraph writes about it.
Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, the diplomat spoke of the fatal consequences of the West ignoring Russia's place in the European balance of power.
According to The Telepraph, in this way Kissinger is actually calling on the West to force Ukraine to negotiate without prolonging the crisis.

In WW2 the Germans were driving toward just this kind of encirclement at Stalingrad when they were . . . encircled. We shall see.

Russia is 'winning' at one small point on the (approx 900K long?) confrontation line i.e. the 'toe' in the far south east of the line around Rubizhne, Severdonetsk & Popsana. And this is because the line's triangular shape at this point allows the Russians to use brute force artillery barrages to achieve incremental advances/gains in territory which the Ukrainians can't oppose without having to concentrate their forces directly under the Russian guns.

The important thing is that everywhere else along the line Russia is losing. It has either been pushed back or its advance into Ukrainian territory has stalled. Why? Because everywhere else it literally can't pin the Ukrainian army in place and then use a 270 degree arc of fire to pound them silly. At best all Russia will achieve is to 'straiten the line' and the moment they do so the one military advantage they have left on the ground (concentrated artillery fire on troops unable to maneuver in response) is lost.

Russian relevance on the world scene is being destroyed and it's taking all the best laid plans for trade and defense that have been made in the last 50 years. Henry is trying to salvage what he can of it. China's eyes are wide in surprise and happy anticipation of a future that is looking good to them.

Bingo. That's it in a nutshell. And for these microscopic gains the fascist Ruzzians are paying a huge price.

Shades of the late 1944 Dardanelle offensive, here.

All of this is weakening RuZZia even more.

Xi's future may not be so rosy...there must be certain potential successors viewing his relationship with Putin with a certain amount of glee as it's all going slightly wrong

Don't be surprised that Putin wants Ukraine to dictate to. Putin only cares for himself and that's it.

Prime minister of Belarus says they are supplying weapons to Russia.
I’ll repeat - Belarus is a weapons supplier for Russia now.

I agree, as long as Russia wins then things should go back to normal in Europe. I can only afford one more months worth of gas/electricity, with the prices having been tripled since we started arming Ukraine. If Russia wins then we won't be further driven into fuel poverty in the uk. It's fine for our politicians (our treasurer Richie sunak) is a billionaire.

The ppl are being held hostage in uk all because Biden wants to surround russia with nukes so he can demand Russia keepse energy prices artificially low.

Well if you say so, then who am I to deny it?

Some will say what they want
    and whenever they want,
no matter how stupid they sound.

    Because they believe
    there'll always be some around.

    Who'll take the absurd
    and thus their word,
not knowing from where it stems.

    And thinking of course
    that we are all fools,
    who will never question them.

Yep...it's a disgrace....For example, in London senior citizens riding buses all day long to keep warm. FFS....it's 21st century....kids getting food poisoning because parents started switching refrigerators off in order to lower their energy bills....etc...I'm not even joking. And some morons here gloat about lack of toilet paper in Russia. Who bloody cares.

Putin's intentions are to take over Ukraine and make into Russia and insert his dictatorship and I've said it before and I'll say it again.

No more borrowing and reduced exports mean Russia is going back to the 90s very soon.

Ruzzia is running out of tanks. They now use old T-62's that weren't in service for 40+ years.

    They also lost another general:
    Number 11, I think. :)

As someone who develops software for financial systems and who works in a logistics company, I can give you a little insight - in many large corporations, their ERP (accounting) systems are set in such a way that they run a credit report on a potential client and determine the payment terms. If a client has no credit history, or bad credit history, then the terms for that client are either COD (cash on delivery), or prepayment.
Ruining Russia’s credit will result in even more expensive imports because now Russians will have to pay up front. Russian importers will have to front their cash to obtain a product for further resale, which will force many to borrow from Russian banks at their current ridiculous interest rates.
What do you think is a better payment term:
    1. 30 days, which means that you get the product, sell it, and use the proceeds to pay your supplier or:
    2. COD, where an importer must borrow to prepay for the product, resell that product, and then pay off the loan + interest?
Oh, and don’t forget about the impact of such change to the final price a consumer will see on the shelf - wouldn’t you think #2 would result in price increases?
