There are many "free countries" whose citizens don't face the risk of gun violence that Americans do. "Provide for the general welfare"; yes it is the governments job to protect us.

Life is short. Don't spend another day in this country that you hate, the door is open.

Don't spend another moment trying to twist facts to suit your argument. I have never said anything, ever that would indicate I hate my beloved Country; quite the opposite.

Trump may not be book smart, but he’s street smart.

And, I will repeat myself. A former president cannot turn the SS on and off like a light switch. Once he says no protection, it’s forever.

He's dumb as a rock but does have a survival sense like no other. IF he's for gun rights he should put his ass where his mouth has left him. 8)

Maybe the idiots who want to take guns away from American citizens like Joe Biden should forego armed protection.... You cool with that or do you have two sets of standards here?

It's Federal Law that The Secret Service protect the "Sitting" President of These United States. I'm a law abiding citizen. 8)

Care to cite your tabloid source for mis information you received? Sitting POTUS and VPOTUS, by law, cannot refuse protection.

Can a former president refuse Secret Service protection?
Yes. In fact, I believe that Nixon DID in fact refuse USSS protection on the grounds that he could afford to pay for his own security.

Former presidents used to be provided lifetime USSS protection. Then, I believe during the Clinton administration, that was changed to limit it to 10 years after they left office. However, I believe it was changed back to lifetime protection after 9/11.

Not silly at all, he's come out in favor of gun rights, he should step up and live it.

Thanks for shooting your own point in the foot.... Metaphorically speaking of course because you had no point..

I don't think so. There IS precedent for former Presidents refusing Secret Service protection.

What a disturbing attitude. He won’t refuse it, so go off in a corner and cry.

If you follow the thread, the claim was that BIDEN could refuse SS protection

You just said you believe that was changed after 9/11.

Is it hard to contradict yourself so often?

I'm fine with that. He's a hypocrite, everyone knows it, this is just further proof. The LAST thing I want is for someone to make a martyr out of the SOB. On the other hand if he has one Big Mac to many and falls over dead??? Never say anything bad about the dead, only good; tRump's dead, good! (would be my feeling)

    Oh he’s a hypocrite all right. He’s a politician.

he’s not a hypocrite about this, though.

    BUT! Not so fast:
Obama restores lifetime Secret Service for former presidents
In 1994, as a cost-saving measure, Congress acted to limit protection for future former presidents and spouses to just ten years after they left office.

The 1994 measure exempted then-President Bill Clinton and first applied to George W. Bush and all his successors.

    Eighteen years later, Congress reconsidered.

"The world has changed dramatically since the 9/11 terrorist attacks," said Rep. Lamar Smith, R-Texas, during House debate on the bill in November.

"We must make sure that the safety and security of our former chief executives is not jeopardized," said Smith.

Former presidents and first ladies remain free to relinquish Secret Service protection as did Richard Nixon in 1985, 11 years after he left office.

So when you do it, its a fact
But if someone else does it to you, its a personal attack.
Most call that a sense of entitlement.
