“Police say Dennis Butler returned after being lectured about speeding through an apartment complex where kids were playing. He parked his car and began shooting at a graduation party with an AR-15. A woman among the group of 30 to 40 people saw Butler, 37, in his back seat firing on the group. Instead of running, Hazelett said, she engaged the threat, shooting and killing him.”

The innocents are alive, the shooter is dead.

A concealed carry license holder engaged the shooter and stopped the threat. The shooter was the only casualty in the event.

The police were crystal clear, "no charges would be filed against the woman, who was very shaken up by the ordeal." The Shooter, "on the other hand, had an “extensive” criminal history. As such, he was legally prohibited from owning, handling or carrying any firearm."

Those rules didn't stop him, a very brave, well prepared WV Woman of courage stopped him, and promptly, before needless innocent blood was spilled.

The Chief of Detectives repeatedly "credited that regular citizen who had a lawfully-carried firearm with saving lives because she didn’t run, but instead turned to engage and effectively took out the threat."

"Police said a woman who was lawfully carrying a pistol shot and killed a man who began shooting at a crowd of people Wednesday night in Charleston."

"Dennis Butler was killed after shooting at dozens of people attending a graduation party Wednesday near the Vista View Apartment complex. No injuries were reported from those at the party."

"Butler was warned about speeding in the area with children present before he left. He later returned with an AR-15-style firearm and began firing into the crowd before he was shot and killed.'

Without hesitation "she engaged with the threat and saved several lives last night,” Charleston Police Department Chief of Detectives Tony Hazelett said."

"She didn’t wait 40 minutes or more for police to arrive and stage before taking action. She drew her firearm and stopped the threat with decisive accuracy while under fire."

"With an extensive criminal record, Mr. Butler apparently thought he could continue to reoffend with impunity." Little did he know that his next criminal act would be met by a decisive well prepared woman.

 

And what did he use, oh yea an AR-15.

Whatever definition that your source is using to arrive at 491, I can almost guarantee is not the definition that most think of when they picture a mass shooting.

Gang inspired parking lot/driveby type shootings are not mass shootings in most people's minds. That is an entirely different problem, and almost all of those happen with illegal guns.

Of the 491 mass shootings... how many shooters were licensed gun carriers?...

19 children died last week.

This kind of horror story only happens once every 20 years elsewhere in the West.

The situation is so critical that the police don't want to face the mass shooters, who are often better armed than them.

1 life saved whether "kids" or not is the step in the right direction...

Only 0.8% of mass shootings are stopped by armed civilians.

Even the police are afraid of crazy shooters.

And you ask civilians to have the courage to do it instead of law enforcement.
