…gun ownership was a "fundamental human right" of self-defense and urged policymakers to search for solutions other than gun control to stop future school massacres.

"Restricting the fundamental human right of law-abiding Americans to defend themselves is not the answer. It never has been," LaPierre told the NRA gathering in Houston, about 300 miles east of the Uvalde community where 19 children and two teachers were slain earlier this week.

While Democrats use the tragedy to reinvigorate efforts to pass gun control, prospects for sweeping restrictions appear slim as the NRA and its millions of members hold firm in their defense of the Second Amendment.

LaPierre suggested more funding for school security was a better answer because "our children deserve at least, and in fact more protection than our banks, stadiums and government buildings."

His sentiments were echoed by other speakers…

"There are thousands of laws on the books across the country that limit the owning or using of firearms, laws that have not stopped madmen from carrying out evil acts on innocent people in peaceful communities,"…

he NRA and it’s members are right about this. We don’t need new laws about guns. We need to harden schools and other places kids are present. We need to do more to find warning signs and deal better with mental health issues.

Hardened security, more good people with guns, and harsh consequences for lone wolves that happen anyway are key. Taking rights away from law abiding citizens only makes it easier for criminals to act and to get away with their actions

Exactly and the more the gun grabbers open their pie holes on the issue the more guns we get into the hands of the law abiding public because they did. No negotiation, no concessions. They only get our guns by overthrowing the constitution and taking guns by force of arms and army tanks in the streets of our cities

    Owning nukes is a right.

    Second Amendment

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

The people is a right conferred upon all law abiding adult citizens of this nation. One that along with the rest of the bill of rights is conferred to the residents of every state. The 2A is a God given natural right.

How can it be both ‘god given’ and ‘natural’?
Elon Musk must be rich enough to own a personal thermonuclear weapon.
Would his ‘right’ of ownership be god given or natural?

Anything coming from God can be considered natural. After all, if he did create the universe, and everything in the universe is considered natural, then any God given Right is Natural also.

As for the nuke comment: Argumentum ad absurdum fallacy.

Yeah and old Pepe LaPew is a right

He is implying that it is impossible for you to defend yourselves without guns and you should reject that. It is building into the American psyche the notion that if they do not have a gun they will never be able to defend themselves. Not every violent encounter is gun related.

Its also worthless because it focuses on one aspect of DGU and not all DGU.

You're defending a principle that allows American lunatics to be the best armed in the world.

So you use your logical extension regarding god and nature, but my logical extension regarding the right to own personal thermonuclear weapons is absurd.
    Yeah right.

No such thing as a god given right. You made that up.
A natural right exists to all living creatures. And doesn't need to be recorded.

But the 2A is explicit. NO arms shall be infringed.

I see you are not in support of the 2A.

Now anything you have to say about rights is meaningless.

Rightists in America believe we need to have laws requiring every individual to provide ID in order to vote in fears of voter impersonation fraud that has only been proven in a Court of law 0.0004% of all of our elections. These same rightists want nothing to be done regarding laws to protect lives regarding gun deaths. There solution is to arm everyone and let the wild west prevail.

    ****ing stupid.

I own several guns myself. Yet I'm not against a law requiring me to have a license to safely operate my weapons.
