An assault rifle is one that is selectable so that the infantryman or woman can change the mode of fire according to need.

Get illegal drugs under control and then we'll talk about "assault weapon" control. Get the southern border secure and then we'll talk about gun registration and background checks.

Yes, because ALL of America can't chew gum and walk at the same time.
ALL of America should only be focused on conservative issues.

As you can probably imagine, there are many myths surrounding the .223. Lots of “alternative facts” are being thrown around, so I will make it simple for the newbie:
    • The .223 is not a very powerful round. The media love to throw around words like ‘high-caliber’ and ‘high power’, but both of these are just plain incorrect. The .223 is a small caliber in most respects and is what most people consider a varmint cartridge. In fact a majority of serious hunters, myself included, don’t even like it for deer and recommend against it if there are better options available. The .223 is best put to use on coyote, groundhogs, and other pests.
    • By direct comparison to other common cartridges, the .223 isn’t especially great at what it’s supposed to do. In fact, there are many cartridges that fully outperform the .223 while remaining in a similar size envelope. The fake news media would have you believe that the .223 is capable of blowing people in half at a distance of a mile, but that’s utterly false.
    • The .223 (and the AR-15 rifles that fire them) are not ‘weapons of war’. Both the cartridge and the rifle are very popular for hunting and home defense use. The .223 is a common caliber for bolt action and single-shot rifles in addition to semi-autos.

I thought even the war time use of the rounds the AR-15 fires (and its military counterpart the M-16) was that they were more likely to wound a person than kill. Wounding an enemy soldier in war time takes four enemy soldiers out of action. The wounded guy, Two to carry him and a third to carry his gear.

    Nope...sorry my liberal friend....
they are not only going to take away our guns (weapons of war, AR-15's are not used by the military)... they will abolish the filibuster, and expand the Supreme Court... and some are just blatantly telling what they want to do to get it done... take 34 seconds of your time to listen to this man..

Yes it is a hoax, and over many years now the hoax has been supported by staged events, the narrative of which are contradicted by facts. One of the best examples was Scott Pelley's reaction at San Bernardino, but I digress.

Without registration, how do you prove a gun wasnt transferred BEFORE the law went into effect?

You can't. This is what we have been saying, it's unenforceable, therefore; useless.

Additionally, someone who can look a school teacher in the eyes and say "time to die" then shhot and kill her and her 10 yr old stydents really don't give a rats ass about a "penalty " for not passing a bgc.

I WOULD support a federal law mandating all states report mental health treatments to the database. If you've been evaluated, or been treated for any type episode. Even counseling received for behaviour issues in school. Yes, even threats to a family member or spouse. These may not result in a denial, but for instance, more than one incident recorded would trigger a red flag, maybe further evaluation is needed before a purchase. Additionally, a provision for charging anyone who maliciously and falsely reports mental instabilty, (jilted ex, for instance) with the same penalties for the wrongful accuser.

The reason that the "common sense gun control" crowd focuses so intently on the AR is because they only pay attention to gun crime when there is a mass shooting that involves an AR. If someone shoots up a movie theater or a school the whole world pays attention because it's blasted across the media. When 50 people shoot up their neighborhoods over gang territory and drugs it doesn't get the same media attention and most people hear it, forget about it and go on with their lives. It's like the plane crash phenomenon. 150 people die in a commercial airline accident and it's huge news. 1000 people die in small, private plane accidents and nobody even thinks about it.

The big difference is that an ID hurts no one, doesn’t infringe anyones rights and nearly all responsible people already have an ID. ALSO, we only know the fraud that is actually found. There is obviously more than we know, statistically. Always is. Still small, but sometimes a little bit of fraud is all it takes.

AGAIN, having an ID hurts NO ONE. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t have a photo ID. It Kills no one. And you have to wonder what possible motivation there is to Democrats doing everything they can to stop it? WHY? Why don’t they want people voting easily identified? There’s only one reason.

We’re talking about gun deaths and manipulating peoples fears. You can’t deny the MSM and Dems are lying about the real danger. The numbers are the numbers. You just read them. Do you think it’s actually rational to fear those sorts of numbers? Do you fear dying every time you step foot in a car?

    Facts? Yeah, right.
In 2020 there were 45,222 gun deaths
    Suicide: 24,292
    Homicide: 19,384
    Accidental: 535
    Legal Intervention: 611
    Undetermined: 400
Let's do the math....Suicides were 53% (which can be prevented by Red Flag laws}, homicides were 43% and police action shootings were 1%. So, out of the gate, you give bogus numbers and I stopped checking your "facts" because the rest of your argument would be without merit.

My position was made quite clear.
The left exaggerates their gun violence claims in their effort to ban guns. Kind of like your post.

Your CDC information is fake. You want examples?

    The same CDC claim states

    1. Eight states — California, Hawaii, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland and New Jersey — have the strictest gun laws and the lowest rates of gun violence.
    False
The fake CDC claims are wrapped in fake averages. Using per capita numbers to hide the real information.
Here are the real numbers showing how fake the CDC claims are

    For example
California has the highest gun deaths at 3184
    Alaska has 180
Yet Alaska has the weakest gun laws but the highest rate of gun violence?
Thats how fake the CDC numbers are

    New York has 772
    New Jersey 478
And then they had the balls to include Illinois? Laughable 1543
    Maryland 742
    Massachusetts 262

    Then they forgot
    Pennsylvania 1636
    Ohio 1589
    Indiana 1016
    Missouri 1307

2.Thirteen states — Kansas, Alaska, Kentucky, Missouri, New Hampshire, Arizona, Oklahoma, Wyoming, South Dakota, Arkansas, Montana, Idaho and Mississippi — are categorized as national failures for having the weakest gun laws along and highest rates of gun violence.
    False

    3. In 2020, firearms were involved in 79 percent of all homicides
    False

    4. Mississippi, Louisiana, Wyoming, Missouri and Alabama have the highest firearm mortality rates in the country
    False

FBI data doesn't even come close to your CDC fake claims being distributed across the internet

    1. Homicide data Total firearms related 13.927

    2. FBI data from 2020 does show that more people died from injuries sustained from other people’s fists, feet and hands than from rifles.

The M16 is a"selectable" version of the Armalite Rifle, the AR15.

That's quite true. The.223 and the rifle firing it seem to be, however, the best instruments currently existing for massacres of defenseless civilians at short range, with particular facility at killing small children. Since they are not very good at hunting deer and a plethora of much better devices for that exist one has to wonder why there is such seeming affection for them among firearm enthusiasts.

“AR” stands for ArmaLite Rifle, not assault rifle. An assault rifle is selectable (changing action back and forth from semi-automatic fire to automatic or burst fire with the flip of a switch) like the M16. Assault weapon is a misnomer. The vast majority of AR15s come chambered for the .223 round, a versatile medium power cartridge. The popularity of the AR rifle is because:

    1) It has mild recoil with the .223 cartridge;

    2) The recoil is straight back (little or no “lift”);

    3) The caliber can be interchanged by using different “uppers.”

    4) It is light;

    5) It is easy to break down, though not so easy to clean thoroughly.

All the noise about large-capacity magazines is precisely that. The magazines of an ArmaLite 15 Rifle chambered in .223, as with all semi-automatic firearms, can be quickly changed, and two10-round magazines can be taped together to make changing magazines even faster.

Gun registration is at the state level and not all states register firearms. The National Firearms Act only requires registration of certain weapons which include machine guns, short-barreled rifles, shotguns, explosivies, and "other dangerous weapons" specified in Title 27, chapter 2, subchapter B, part 478. Second, Universal Background checks are a process to verify that the person is eligible to purchase a firearm under federal and state law. It is therefore going to be used as a record-keeping tool for purchases only, especially private sales. Currently, there is no requirement, state or federal, for private sales between two individuals who are unlicensed registered FFL holders. These are two separate issues and should be treated as such.

That really wasn't part of the consideration. The biggest reason for going to the 5.56 from the .308 is that an infantryman could carry a LOT more ammo and the weapon itself could be made a lot less heavy. More ammo gives a less skilled shooter a better chance at hitting a target and a lighter rifle means more mobility.

Under current law, including in Washington state, we have 50 plus different methods of background checks that are generally not universal. I would not call the current Washington State a Universal Background Check per se given it has plenty of exemptions and still requires an FFL license holder to facilitate the sale even among private individuals. And that is part of the problem. For instance, in Texas, a felon can be allowed under state law to purchase a firearm if the felony was a "nonviolent felony conviction." However, under Federal law, a felony will prevent such purchases. Same with Washington State, it is required under the 2014 law to have a FFL license holder run a background check for the purchaser; however, the problem is that there are plenty of exemptions including spouses, significant others, domestic partners, related family members, etc in terms of gifts. There is also no enforcement provisions under the law in which if two private individuals exchange firearms in a mutual transaction and no background check is required either.

The whole point of a federal UBC is to make all states use a uniform code for background checks and to make sure that private individuals perform background checks even among family members despite being a "gift." Or in other words, the more loopholes, the more lack of effectiveness the law has. And Washington State has plenty of loopholes in it's state law for said law to be effective.

Lets look at 1.2 and 4 above. So again, it's not a really good hunting rifle but it's just great for non-soldiers to use for killing large numbers of defenseless people gathered together. Why in HELL are the gun advocates so wedded to it?

That is still someone’s brother, sister, parent child

    And it is AVOIDABLE

Tell me, would common sense gun laws be so onerous?

Nice dodge. I see you don't attempt to defend your "facts".
    • 65% of those deaths are by suicide which would never be prevented by gun laws
15% are by law enforcement in the line of duty and justified
    • 17% are through criminal activity, gang and drug related or mentally ill persons – gun violence
    • 3% are accidental discharge deaths
