We've already seen it happen in several situations. 6 times in 2021 alone according to:
    https://www.dailysignal.com/2022/05...any-active-shooters-were-stopped-by-citizens/
FBI Reveals How Many Active Shooters Were Stopped by Citizens

And "...as much as the USA TODAY Editorial Board wants to discount the idea of the “good guy with a gun,” let’s not forget that almost 90% of police agree that mass shootings would be “reduced” or “avoided altogether” by the presence of legally armed citizens."

    https://www.scribd.com/document/154150737/Gun-Policy-LawEnforcement-Survey-Results-2013
Considering the particulars of recent tragedies like Newtown and Aurora, what level of impact do you think a legally

    1. Innocent casualties would likely have been avoided altogether, 6.2%, 865 answers

    2. Casualties would likely have been reduced, 80.0%,11,215 answers

    3. There would have been no difference in outcome, 4.1%, 568 answers
    4. An active gunfight might have resulted in greater loss of innocent lives, 5.5%, 767 answers
    5. Unsure or prefer not to answer. 4.3%, 607 answers

    Out of how many?

This is a survey of opinion rather than actual data.

Also better hope they can identify the bad guy while twenty have guns draw and don't just shoot each other. Otherwise death toll could read, dead shooter, three dead by shooter, 49 dead by mistaken parishioners, 78 wounded.

This is why the NRA bans guns at NRA meetings. They're not stupid.

Not when the previous poster is making a claim of fact. Opinions don't matter when we're talking about blood and steel. When the claws come out only facts matter.

Facts say you're more likely to die carrying a gun than not.

No offense, but I never claimed gunshot victims are more likely to be shot with their own guns. Secondarily, if someone comes into your hose with their gun out, it stantds to reason they have the advantage over a person who has his gun locked in a safe. If you don't, you can't really call yourself a responsible gun owner, can you? Most people don't keep their firearms in their entryways, which is the only truly useful place for them in a home defense scenario.

So far as saved lives go, that statistic is speculative at best. Hard data suggests people who draw guns make themselves targets.

You did claim "you're more likely to die carrying a gun than not" and that's a myth. My source very aptly debunked that nonsense.

    You're welcome.

Actually not. Your source was about people being shot with their own weapon, not about armed defenders being killed. A little critical reading will help you.
Your stance here is counterintuitive. It only stands to reason that armed individuals are priority targets. Think about it.
    You're welcome.
BTW, I'm not against other people owning guns. There are valid reasons other than home defense. I just think it's foolish to buy one for that one reason.

So then, you're claiming no active shooter has ever been stopped by a gun-carrying civilian?

No. My claim is that the chance is less than 50/50. It's not an even fight. Part 2 of my claim is that pulling a gun raises the stakes, in that you've demonstrated willingness and ability to kill the bad guy. Part 3 is that this makes you a priority target. Since the Baddy has all the advantages, this means you've become the most likely next victim.

So? Still better than allowing the shooter to have his way. We're not talking a wild west show down. The citizen can shoot from cover or behind.
"Raises the stakes" from what? he's spraying bullets at every available target. The bad guys doesn't have "all the advantages. A good guy shooter know where he AND the bad guy are. the bad guy may not know that until the first shot.

The situation may lean towards the serial shooter but with someone shooting at him the odds in his favor go down.
