(CNN)President Joe Biden is "fine," after falling off his bike Saturday during a ride in a state park near his home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, a White House official said.

No medical attention is needed, the official added in a statement released to reporters traveling with the President.

"As the President said, his foot got caught on the pedal while dismounting and he is fine. No medical attention is needed. The President looks forward to spending the rest of the day with his family," the official said.

Biden took a tumble when he was finishing a bike ride alongside first lady Jill Biden. The President deviated from the group as he biked over to a crowd that had gathered nearby. Biden came to a stop and appeared to get his foot caught on the pedal while trying to dismount.

This is the guy answering that 3am phone call. Can't even dismount from a bicycle. How can he think of running in 2024? What a disaster.

I did see a video of it. It was one of those stupid nylon toe cages.

I have written a bicycle all my life and I'm not a big fan of those toe cages or the clipless pedals.

Both are generally only used by serious cyclist. A novice really should avoid those especially when it's for a photo op.

I hope he's okay but I also hope he has the good sense to step down and give the wheel to an adult

So with all those secret service agents surrounding Biden, how did Puitin manage to knock him off his bike? It is Putin’s fault, right?

In fairness I've used toe cages on bikes and have done the same (I was much more graceful in my dismount). Dislike the man, hate his politics but could happen to anybody. Move on, so much more to attack.

Biden seems to be trying to be the worst President in US history and he is succeeding. From beating Jimmy Carter's record on the economy and world affairs to beating Gerald Ford's record of falling down Biden is well on his way.

From stumbles to bumbles the Gaff machine Biden is an embarrassment to the nation.

Toe clips are a menace. Should use SPD cleats with twist to remove.

Now bear in mind Biden does this ride frequently without incident.

I've always much preferred platform pedals with traction pins. And my shins have paid the price mountain biking over the years. Great traction but it's going to hurt like hell if one foot slips off and it comes back around and slaps your shin.

I don't like the feel of my feet being connected to a pedal. There's a motion like scraping dog poop off the bottom of your shoe where you draw back on the backstroke of the pedal where you don't need clips.

Yeah I agree there's a slight click when you pull up on SPD... I love the extra power and reduced knee strain that I experience, though. I actually use the shimano road shoes on my gravel and road bike now. They lock you in much more firmly and don't have this problem but they are impossible to walk with and definately not for everyone.

When I started off I had pedals with the pins you describe on one side and cleats on the other so I could pick or choose whether I wanted to use bike shoes or just normal shoes.

I like my recumbent and mountain bike but I barely ride anymore.

I got lazy and bought a Kawasaki KLX 230 dual sport street legal four-stroke dirt bike ;)

Good that you are able to eek a little more humour out of that tired trope.

If you still ride the bike at his age, you'd be doing well. Of course, the Biden haters never picture being old themselves at one point. Maybe that's where the lack if compassion and decency comes from.

I knew an old dude that rode his bike all over well into his ‘90’s. It’s good exercise. I’m glad Biden rides.

It’s a shame his riding has to be documented and parsed and criticized. Let the old man ride in peace. Criticize policy and bad behavior. Riding a bike is good.

I guess if this was some photo op designed to make Biden look young and vigorous like the Putin shirtless horseback photos the people putting Biden up to it deserve what they get and a face slap for taking advantage of an old man. If it’s just an old man riding a bike, let’s let the old man ride on in peace.

Oh, I’ve gotten along fine with clips but it’s just what I am used to from starting with them at a young age.
