Wow, this story has all the idiocy of the Biden Administration wrapped up in a bow.

Joe Biden to block Boris Johnson’s answer to global food crisis

Joe Biden will on Monday attempt to block Boris Johnson’s plan to move away from green fuels amid a transatlantic split over how to tackle the global cost of living crisis.

Mr Johnson will address G7 leaders at a summit in Germany and ask them to repurpose land currently used for crop-based biofuels to grow more food.

The Prime Minister believes using less green fuel would dampen soaring food prices and help avert famines in poorer countries that rely heavily on Ukrainian grain blockaded in ports by Russia.

However, Mr Biden’s officials made it clear on Sunday that Washington will attempt to block the plans in a bid to protect US farmers and avoid jeopardising climate commitments.

Downing Street sources admitted that Mr Johnson’s plan would fail without the support of all G7 nations. The Telegraph understands Germany is backing the plan, but it has been rebuffed by the US and Canada.

Frankly, Johnson's idea is a fairly good one, particularly since I've heard exactly zero other plans from world leaders on what to do about the looming food shortage. Is there even a single adult in the room in the Biden administration? They seem to have prioritized ethanol production to keep up with the administration's raising of ethanol requirements to mix with gasoline over food production in a period in which food production has crashed because of the war.

    Madness.

This has the idiocy of the always angry, ever reactionary Right, who speak before they think and thereby drown out their own capacity for critical thought. Notice that Canada is also opposing the move, and that the stated reason is to "protect US farmers and avoid jeopardising climate commitments."

You're only attacking Biden because you're determined to hate him.

The war in Ukraine is no longer shocking the wheat market
    Published June 28, 2022

When Russia invaded Ukraine in late February, wheat prices, which were already high because of pandemic-related supply chain shortages and severe weather, surged due to the anticipated cutoff to the global wheat supply. The two countries together export about 30% of the world’s wheat.

Soaring wheat prices made pantry foods, from rice to bread, more expensive. But prices are now falling.

On March 7, wheat traded at a record high of $12.94 a bushel. The price has since dropped 27% to $9.39 on June 28.

No, there's no adults without blue hair in Biden's administration. The country is being led by petulant children that don't know jackshit about farming or O&G but do like the kickbacks from the military industrial complex.

The solution is to check their egos and admit they've got their tit in a wringer in Ukraine. That war was over the day it started. They should do a peace deal instead of pumping Zelensky's bank accounts full of taxpayer dollars.

Is Ukraine worth WW3? Nope, just a corrupt former Soviet country that will always be corrupt. Is NATO worth WW3? Nope, just a M.I.C. kickback machine.

The Russians will never be defeated, ever. It's high time the egotards in the West grow up and become adults.

The war was over the day it started, but for Putler and his Ruscist regime. Ukraine is winning and will win in the end, Bill. Deal with it.

This...is ridiculous. I'm not one of you guys. I care about actual policy. And although there is lots of room to disagree with policy, we have a major crisis looming, Johnson came up with a way to deal with it. What is the administration's solution?

    No one wins in war.
Russia lost once they thought invasion was an option.
They didn't learn from when we tried it apparently.

History is basically the story of wars and yet those wars tend not to change the overall story.

By the time the food crops are grown harvested and distributed, at least a year, the crisis may well be over.

Hmm... Biden seems to be doing a bang up job attacking farmers already. So it seems pretty out of character then for Biden to suggest that he's suddenly interested in "protecting" them. As for climate commitments, it sure seems like we have real problems actually demonstrating any current value from the attack on fossil fuels this administration (which is also hammering the ability of farmers to produce) has executed. That Justin black face would follow along? Not surprising. That folks around the world will suffer at the hands of US liberals? An expected outcome.

Its interesting you demand a globalist agenda to be imposed in US.

Boris Johnson can impose whatever he wants in UK (if they have a food crises), but we call our own shots here in US, especially when we don't have a food crises here in US. Our issues are in distribution side. Boris idea sounds pretty short sighted and knee-jerky.

We don't need to repurpose anything, or pull plugs on industries. We have plenty of land, and can grow food for UK, if they are running out. For a fair compensation of course.

    "No one wins in war."

Historically speaking, I think you are on extremely weak ground.

Less than a year for US agriculture, however it seems like you are willing to take a pretty big gamble, when the downside risk (low food prices) is rather minimal compared to the risk of doing nothing (mass starvation in the third world).

Demanding massive long term changes to handle short term problem is pretty much the definition of short-sighted.

Why should US make major changes if UK has a problem? We have plenty of land, so if UK needs to grow wheat, we can lease them the land. We're not going to turn things upside down to appease his desires. Besides, killing ethanol would increase fuel prices, not decrease it.

Also, Brits are saying Boris is already "rowing back" his idea.

Obviously we don't even agree on what a "fact" is so it's unlikely further discussion would be fruitful. However you are free to believe whatever you want.

There is so much wrong with that I don't really know where to begin. I would suggest that you go back and read that article again but we both know you wouldn't do it so...meh.
