I was never a big fan, but I remember that when it was proven that Bubba committed perjury, it was stressful to me for a moment. But I just accepted it and decided to move on and accept that any punishment he got was well deserved.

So I know it's disturbing for some people to see all the evidence mounting against the guy they supported in the elections. But instead of making up strawman excuses that are not going to keep him out of prison, you should start thinking about what DIFFERENT path your party should take in the future. Away from the criminals that governed our country for 4 years. I wish their only crime had been perjury. But, in the case of Trump, perjury (which he did commit during the Mueller investigation) would be a small "misdeed" compared to the insurrection he fostered (not to mention his other crimes).

It took me like 20 minutes to process the fact that Bill Clinton was guilty of a crime. They were very stressful 20 minutes. I didn't know how to react. I thought of all the excuses that one could make up. But then I accepted it: "Yeah! He committed a crime! And he deserves some sort of punishment" And it was liberating when I simply accepted that fact.

The sooner you get to that point, the sooner you will feel relief.

 

Every single politician is guilty of a crime. All of them. There isn't one person who could throw a stone and not shatter glass.

That said, the Jan 6 **** is a show trial and while I haven't been keeping up...I want to predict much ado about nothing.

And the reality...the cold hard truth, is while he isn't the best Republican candidate, Trump > anything the left has to put forward with the exception of Tulsi because she's more moderate and sane and her policies would be less socially divisive and not destructive dead ends.

I always just assume everyone Im voting for and against are criminals. Its not really a question of whose corrupt these days, but a question of whose corruption is going to be worse for the country. Theres maybe 5 people in congress right now who I'd be surprised didn't break laws in the process of getting there.

It'd be nice if we could get normal folks elected, but normal people dont want to wallow in that sea of garbage in DC and I dont blame them.

 

I've already mentioned that I interned in a political office in college. I liked helping the residents and giving speeches at the local high schools but the rest of it was just awful. One day, I was talking to a co-worker about X person and she snapped back about why she loved him. I said "but, he's a crook" to which she said "Yes, but he's our crook."

That's how they think. They aren't defending, justifying, rationalizing, apologizing and attacking because they disbelieve he's innocent. They are doing it because he's on their team.

Criminal behavior isn't NEW in politics. It's just more obvious because previous POTUSes had enough sense to behave on camera. Trump is too stupid to do that which they translate as "being his own man". He's not a man at all. He's an idiot and coward (which is common in all bullies).

Golem, I've been in mourning for a minute here. I'm grieving what I thought our country and people stood for.

As an advocate, I'm well aware that we have some things to work out regarding systemic racism, sexism and homophobia but I sincerely believed that, at our CORE, we were caring, conscientious, accepting and tolerant of others. I've seen more hatred and animosity and outright shameless bigotry here than I faced as a police officer, child abuse advocate or in another part of my life outside my own abuse at the hands of my parents and other relatives.

Until I joined pf, I thought my birth family was just whackadoodles and the rest of the world was better than that. It pains me to tell you that I now have to concede that they ARE representative of what I've witnessed these past few years as I've made a concerted effort to engage with understanding politics because I have children.
