No, you are trying to create an image of the Select Committed that is false. But, you're correct the do not have authority to "create" crimes, but it IS their job to look for them; with respect to what happened January 6th 2021 and what let up to it. It AbsaByGodLutely Congress's job to investigate other branches of the Government, especially, in the case, how the Capitol and it's workers are affected.

I think you should write your representatives to have any crimes, you think were committed and are not being given proper notice, be investigated.

Former Trump attorney John Eastman voluntarily withdrew his lawsuit that sought to block the Jan. 6 Select Committee from gaining access to his phone records, according to a filing late Tuesday.

In the filing, Eastman’s lawyer, Charles Burnham, wrote that that the committee had assured in their motion that they were only seeking his call logs, not the content of any of his messages held by his phone provider, Verizon.

The filing was issued a day after another lawsuit from Eastman revealed that his phone was seized by the FBI last week. The lawsuit, which was filed in federal court in New Mexico, asks a federal judge to order that the DOJ return his phone, dispose of records it obtained from the device and block investigators’ access to it.

Now that the DoJ has his phone he dropped the suit. Priceless.

The Jan. 6 outrage will likely go away what with the liberal reaction to the supreme court's opinion on Roe. Consider:
    Inciting a riot...
"peacefully and patriotically march to the capitol" - Trump
"get confrontational" "defy the supreme court" - Democrat Rep. Maxine Waters
"I want to tell you, Kavanaugh, you have released a whirlwind and you will pay the price. You won't know what hit you." - Dem. Senator Chuck Schumer

    So...who is inciting a riot??

    Threat to Democracy...
Suggested an election was rigged - Trump
"The Supreme Court is illegitimate." - Dem Senator Elizabeth Warren
"Defy the Supreme Court" - Democrat Rep. Maxine Waters
Entire speech about how crooked the Supreme Court is (sour grapes too) - Dem. Rep. Nancy Pelosi

So...who is damaging our Democracy by questioning our institutions??

    Insurrection...
On Jan. 6 2021, conservative demonstrators mobbed the capitol, creating vandalism and scaring congress silly.
July 2020, liberal demonstrators attacked the federal courthouse in Portland; several arrested for assault.
June 9 2022, Roe v. Wade fan attempts to assassinate a SC judge.
May 2020, liberal protesters breach fencing at the White House and clash with Secret Service.

So...which is an "insurrection"? Can someone tell me?

These comparisons will come up more and more now.

Both sides are destroying our "democracy". Doesn't matter who is worse. Wrong is wrong

Until more people realize that it will just get worse

It’s possible the Jan. 6 committee refers a criminal case against Trump, Liz Cheney says

It’s still possible that the Jan. 6 committee investigating the attack on the U.S. Capitol makes a criminal referral to the Justice Department against former President Donald Trump, Rep. Liz Cheney said.

“It’s a decision that we’ll make together as a committee,” the Wyoming Republican said in an interview with ABC News’ “This Week” that aired Sunday.

Committee members have appeared to be divided over whether it would potentially refer a case against Trump, who some believe is to blame for the 2021 attack. Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-MS, who chairs the committee, said last month that while if the DOJ examines the hearings and decides to review it further they would, but making a criminal referral is “not our job.”

Others on the committee, including Cheney, quickly shot back, saying that the committee has yet to vote on whether it would recommend criminal referrals to the department.

    https://www.cnbc.com/2022/07/03/che...ould-refer-a-criminal-case-against-trump.html

Whether they do or not the committee will be passing along to the DoJ more than enough information to sustain multiple indictments of Trump.

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), a member of the Jan. 6 Select Committee, on Sunday said the panel plans to focus on “efforts to assemble” the mob of Trump supporters who stormed the Capitol in its next public hearing.

The panel’s next hearing follows damning testimony by Cassidy Hutchinson, former aide to Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, last week. In her testimony, Hutchinson detailed Meadows and other Trump aides’ anticipation of violence before Jan. 6, and Trump’s unsuccessful attempts to get the Secret Service to allow him to go to the Capitol after the “Stop the Steal” rally on the Ellipse.

Jan. 6 Panel Members Say New Witnesses Have Come Forward After Hutchinson’s Testimony

The two Republican members of the Jan. 6 Select Committee, Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) and committee vice chair Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), on Sunday said that new witnesses have come forward wanting to testify before the panel after explosive testimony by Cassidy Hutchinson, former aide to Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, last week.

In her testimony, Hutchinson offered a firsthand account of then-President Trump and his allies’ behavior in the days leading up to and on Jan. 6. Among the stunning revelations during Hutchinson’s testimony, the ex-Meadows aide testified about how Meadows and others in Trump’s circle anticipated violence prior to Jan. 6 and the ways in which Trump encouraged it privately. Additionally, Hutchinson recalled Trump demanding the Secret Service get rid of metal detectors at the pre-insurrection rally on the Ellipse so that his armed supporters could move closer to the stage, making the crowd appear larger.

On CNN, Kinzinger said that new witnesses have expressed their desire to testify before the panel since Hutchinson’s testimony aired.

After declining to go into details about the new witnesses, Kinzinger praised Hutchinson for “inspiring” more people to come forward.

As Chairman Thompson suggested, perhaps Cassidy's testimony has jogged the memory of reluctant witnesses.

Cipollone Reaches Deal With Jan. 6 Panel To Testify In Transcribed Interview Friday

Former White House counsel Pat Cipollone, a key figure in then-President Trump’s inner circle who pushed back against some of his attempts to subvert the election results, has reportedly reached a deal to sit for a transcribed interview before the Jan. 6 Select Committee on Friday, according to multiple reports.

Cipollone is appearing after the panel subpoenaed him for testimony.

Cipollone will reportedly appear in private before the committee, the New York Times reported, citing a person briefed on the matter.

The deal for Cipollone to testify comes a week after the committee subpoenaed him, following shocking testimony from Cassidy Hutchinson, former aide to Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows.

GOPers Tied To Fake Elector Scheme Set To Turn Over Info To DOJ As Soon As This Week

Republican operatives who have ties to a scheme to put forward fake Trump electors amid the then-President’s refusal to concede last year are reportedly set to turn over information to the Justice Department as soon as this week, according to CNN.

In recent weeks, the DOJ has issued numerous subpoenas seeking information in all seven battleground states where the Trump campaign assembled the fake electors as part of Trump’s efforts to overturn the election results. Sources familiar with the investigation told CNN that some of the subpoenas to Republicans connected to the unsuccessful scheme have been asked to provide documents by Friday.

The DOJ’s subpoenas indicates an expansion of its sweeping investigation into Jan. 6 beyond the Capitol insurrectionists. It also comes as special grand jury in Georgia this week subpoenaed several advisors and members of Trump’s legal team who played a role in his effort to subvert the 2020 election results: Rudy Giuliani, John Eastman, Kenneth Chesebro, Jenna Ellis, and Cleta Mitchell. Trump ally Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) was also subpoenaed by the grand jury.

Jan. 6 panel didn't specifically ask Cipollone about Hutchinson's testimony on legal consequences of going to Capitol during riot, sources say

"Mr. Cipollone provided a great deal of new information relevant to the select committee's investigation, which further underscores President Trump's supreme dereliction of duty," the source said. "The committee will show much of this to the American people in the days ahead."

The source also added that no one has refuted any of Hutchinson's testimony under oath.

Three different sources familiar with Cipollone's testimony characterized it as very important and extremely helpful and told CNN it will become evident in upcoming public committee hearings.

    https://www.cnn.com/2022/07/08/politics/cipollone-hutchinson-testimony-january-6/

My understanding is the hearings will wrap up next week.

Evidence of firearms in Jan. 6 crowd grows as arrests and trials mount

Some of the startling revelations of the recent blockbuster Jan. 6 House committee hearing came in snippets of police radio traffic captured during President Donald Trump’s rally on the Ellipse and from Trump’s purported response to being told there were armed protesters just outside a secured area.

The chatter included reports of a man with an AR-15 in a tree on Constitution Avenue who was accompanied by two men with pistols on their hips. Another officer radioed, “I’ve got three men walking down the street in fatigues carrying AR-15s, copy, at 14th and Independence.”
The recordings aired during the June 28 hearing in which former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson testified that Trump reportedly “was angry that we weren’t letting people through the [metal detectors] with weapons.”

The full picture of how many among the crowd were armed before the riot occurred is unclear, but court records, trial testimony and accounts from police officers and rioters have supplied growing evidence that multiple people brought firearms to Washington for Jan. 6, 2021. Six men were arrested that day for having guns in the vicinity of the U.S. Capitol, and a seventh who arrived after the riot ended was arrested the following day. Despite some instances in which alerts about people with guns turned out to be false alarms, accounts from police officers and rioters indicate that many firearms were spotted on Jan. 6 but were not seized as law enforcement focused more on defending the Capitol than on arresting gun-law violators.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2022/07/08/jan6-defendants-guns/

More and more we are coming to the understanding the 1/6 riot was not a protest that got out of hand. The violence was the plan all along as evidenced by all the weapons the mob brought to the Capital.

The Jan. 6 panel presented evidence that Trump preplanned a march to the Capitol. Here are the latest developments.
WASHINGTON — President Donald J. Trump planned to lead a march of his angry supporters to the Capitol on Jan. 6 but wanted it to look like a spontaneous decision, people involved in the plans told the committee investigating the mob violence that overtook the Capitol.

According to documents obtained from the National Archives, Mr. Trump reviewed a tweet that said: “I will be making a Big Speech at 10AM on January 6th at the Ellipse (South of the White House). Please arrive early, massive crowds expected. March to the Capitol after. Stop the Steal!!”

The House select committee investigating the attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6 revealed that they told the Department of Justice that former President Donald Trump contacted one of its witnesses who hasn’t publicly testified yet.

“After our last hearing. President Trump tried to call a witness in our investigation. A witness you have not yet seen in these hearings,” Rep. Liz Cheney, the vice chair of the committee, said on Tuesday.

“That person declined to answer or respond to President Trump’s call and instead alerted their lawyer to the call. Their lawyer alerted us. And this committee has supplied that information to the Department of Justice,” she added.

I see here that you admit to having significant difficulty sorting out events and words that many find to be very clear. Well, here's another clear idea to ponder: with all that has been revealed by the Jan 6 Committee via the testimony of the former spokesman of the Oath Keepers, Trump's top advisors, Trump's attorneys, Trumps family, and Trump's closest allies, ANYONE remaining on the side of Trump, defending Trump, faulting the Committee, or continuing to claim the election was "stolen," can no longer hide from the reality that they are a far RW extremist who wants the Constitution to be discarded as see the USA to go fascist with a far RW authoritarian dictator in charge. So the game is up and these people may just as well admit what they are because anyone who has watched the proceedings with any honesty is no longer fooled.

It was just an ordinary day in the hearing room. We learned Trump has been referred to the DoJ for possible witness tampering, that Trump wanted the Capital riot to look spontaneous......but it was planned, there was a full on conflagration between Team Crazy/Coup and Team Enablers on Dec. 18 over whether the enablers had the balls to join Team Crazy/Coup, and following that conflict Trump tweeted the infamous "be there, going to be wild" on 1/6 tweet, focusing the right wing extremists attention on that date as the last ditch effort to accomplish the steal.

    It's absolutely overwhelming.

So much information about 1/6 and the events that lead to it had already come out I questioned the statements of 1/6 committee members when they said we would learn stunning new revelations during the hearings. Wow, was I ever wrong. Kudos to the members of the committee and their staff. The quality of their work has been exemplary.
