I had to do magic with that subject line. Here's the...

FULL TITLE: Marjorie Taylor Greene hosted the guy who made lewd comments about AOC on her show and suggested she should be grateful for the attention

I saw this article today and it reminded me of a post someone started a few months back essentially claiming that American women are not treated as poorly as women in Afghanistan. I thought about that for a bit because it seemed like the poster was implying that because we don't require burkas of our females, we are less demeaning toward them.

However, anyone that's been around the past 2-3 weeks knows that there is a very long discussion about abortion rights in a thread about a 10-year old pregnant girl being taken out-of-state to obtain an abortion. Many people pushed back hard and Jim Jordan even claimed the story was false. The man has been arrested but, not because he raped a little girl, but because her story was dismissed as false.

As we know from statistics, most victims of sexual harassment and/or sexual assault never report it. The only time we even hear about these incidents is if someone is running for public office and that's more about the predator than their prey (and its impact on her/his life).

When these incidents are ignored we, as a society, are continuously providing a pathway in which predators are protected and their victims are ignored and mocked. MTG is obnoxious but this act goes beyond that.

Sexual harassment and sexual violence or any kind of violence are not funny. They are a double-edged sword in that

    1. The incident itself is demeaning and demoralizing and painful,
    2. The inability to have their voices heard,
    3. Society's insistent need to blame the victim

We are telling victims of sexual harassment that they are either (1) liars or (2) need to get over it. We are telling them that their voice and pain don't matter. We are telling them they are just vindictive and mean and should let bygones be bygones.

So, given all that, how can anyone sincerely state that we treat our women better than men in other countries treat theirs?

So, for the benefit of the rest of the PF community out there, said poster saying women are treated better here is correct in many more ways than that. I'd start reading HERE and HERE. Bottom line is that in Afghanistan, you got huge swathes of forced marriages where the ladies there have no choice and add in a lot of childhood marriage there too, the ladies have FAR less of a chance to go to school as well - they're being shipped off to marriage and who needs school for that, eh? There's far fewer chances of entering into a position where you can make any kind of a difference, and I mean like being a lawyer or politician or suchlike, the healthcare is practically substandard, and well, there;s this: "The UN study also revealed that 80 percent of Afghan women experience domestic violence. Some 50 percent of women in Afghan prisons and 95 percent of such girls have been jailed for “moral crimes” such as having sex outside of marriage." So you gotta ask yourself: You're a woman - where would you rather live - here, or in Afghanistan?

Do ya got problems here? Well sure - women have been seen as second-class citizens (if that) for well, pretty much all of human history. Heck, this happened here last month - there was an electrical issue in the house that was beyond my ability to fix so I called in a company that's done work for us before, and they've always done great work. But I've always been home when they got here - note that. But this time they arrived before I got home from work - maybe a first in the history of business where people arrived BEFORE the scheduled time - and only my wife was there. They did their usual good job but after they left Mrs. Wolfe told me a story of how they treated her with derision because she didn't know what she was talking about or what the problem was and basically treated her as if she was a stranger in her own home. I don't recall the exact words she used but it was something like her saying "Oh and there was also this issue here," when she told them the same things I had said when I called this business and they responded along the lines of "Sure, we'll clear that with Mr. Wolfe (smirk)" in a very condescending tone. Thing is, when I got there and walked in, none of that attitude was displayed to me - they said "Sure thing, boss" in a respectful tone when I came in and pointed out what exactly needed to be done and there was no condescension at all in their tone. It really pissed me off when Mrs. Wolfe told me that - these guys treated me and my wife in two entirely different ways and as far as I'm concerned for the couple hours they were there she was as much their employer as I was.

Look, when all is said and done, that was a relatively, though infuriating, minor issue in the larger scheme of things - I mean, would you rather be treated like that or be completely denied an education and health care services? - but it was an indication of just the minor ways women are treated here in ways that men aren't. And this isn't just in the US as much as someone might say otherwise, I've known plenty of women just at school who from time to time have discussed the issues of what being a woman is like in their home countries. We had a (now-retired) Social Studies teacher who was half-black (she always called herself a "Halfrican") that spent considerable time in China who had a wealth of stories about both race AND women issues as related to China and I learned a lot from her as we were always two of those teachers who spent maybe three hours after school dealing with grading or prepping for the next day.

But the thing is, yeah, we CAN state that we treat our women in better ways than other countries. Since the OP uses Afghanistan as some kinda comparison point, I'll ask: Do women here get an education? Yep. I mean, that alone - but okay: Are women here able to run for office? Yep. Can women here get jobs? Heck, we even incentivize companies to hire more women, especially in STEM fields. Are we forcing women into marriage? Nope. I'm sure there are immigrants from say - Saudi Arabia or somesuch that ARE doing that, but that's a holdover from their countries, not ours. I can't speak for Scientologists, though. But I digress ...

Are we as a society perfect? Nope. But the same question remains. Imagine you're a woman. Where would you rather live - here or in Afghanistan? I say if you'd rather live there, you're a liar. And since you'd rather live here, yes - we can indeed sincerely state that we treat women better here than in other countries.

So what was this most egregious treatment that AOC suffered?

Critical words that may have been misogynistic?

MTG has seen her share of that.

I dunno, AOC rhetoric egged a killer to attempt to murder a sitting Supreme Court Justice and openly supports radicals harassing Supreme Court Justices in their own homes or when they go out to eat. Did this feller bring a mob and harass AOC in her own home or while she was dining?

If you don't give a **** about radicals harassing public officials that disagree with you, why should we give a **** about radicals harassing public officials that disagree with us? It will be interesting to see you explain in excruciating detail why liberal partisans deserve different and better treatment.

I applaud this move from the right and would like to see much much more of it. Move it to the exact same level as the left. Escalate, escalate, and escalate some more.

Apparently, these comments were upsetting to AOC?
In a video he posted to social media, he can be seen calling her his "favorite big booty Latina" who is "hot hot hot like a tamale"

And on a separate note, Poor AOC - she got insulted. Y'know, you put yourself out there, you're gonna be a target and I'm sorry but insulting politicians in pretty unflattering terms has been around since there WAS politics. Perhaps the rest of the forum reading this thread might wanna look HERE or HERE especially if you think somehow dirty political campaigns somehow started less than twenty years ago. Lord knows here on this forum alone we got people bashing the looks and suchlike of politicians - heck, I've done that too. And I have often heard from both sides here "If you can't stand the heat ..."

I mean, we had a feminist here attack Sarah Sanders as fat. When called out on it, she replied that it was not misogyny so there's where I can hook my compass. And this about AOC who HAS traded on her looks in the past - she does that, she can be insulted in kind. I mean, she is NOT all that - you compare her to Eartha Kitt in a Catwoman suit, Eartha is a ten and AOC is a negative four. Second time I've talked about Eartha in under 24 hours .... hmm ...

I mean, if you're gonna say insulting AOC is automatically sexist, if insulting her looks is sexist when geez, insulting the looks of male politicians is practically de rigueur around here, then by definition, you are setting up different rules for men and women which is almost a textbook definition OF sexism. Bottom line is that if she don't like it, go back to bartending and maybe take a class on what garbage disposals do.

Alexandria Occasional-Cortex. We're talking about someone who has said that people who insult her are just upset they can't date her.

    So, y'know ...

From now on, let's just refer to AOC as a Unique Taco. I mean, hey - it works for Jill Biden! And we'd be sexist if we disagreed! :roflol:

Consider it "culture" that progressives are always using as an excuse whenever migrants Bering their barbaric cultural norms over here and refuse to integrate with ours.

Well, the easiest way to prove the OP wrong is - well, AOC's butt-buddy (I looked, it's apparently OK to say here lol) Ilhan Omar.

If the US is just this TERRIBLE place to live, why hasn't she left and gone back to Somalia? She of all people has the means and the money to do so. And yet she stays here in this incredibly sexist country. Huh.

It's like - geez, this woman is a total tool, Lena Dunham. Threatened to leave the US if Trump won. Broke her word (shocker). I've joked that the reason he won is BECAUSE Lena threatened to leave and millions of people voted for Trump just so she would. Your basic limousine liberal. Still lives in Noo Yawk and is worth twelve mil according to da webs. There's someone who could easily move outta this backwards country. Why would she wanna stay here? And yet ...

The OP is wrong, has been wrong, and will always be wrong. We got problems but it's still better here than anywhere else. And Our Privileged Liberal Overlords prove it every day they remain here instead of going to that left-wing paradise of Afghanistan.

“favorite big booty Latina”? Hmmm, I didn’t know she had a big booty. Thought it was in proportion to her body but but I can honestly say that I don’t think I’ve seen a good view of her booty. Anyone have a pict of it in say Yoga pants? Is it J Lo quality? I’ve seen that old video of her dancing and let me say she fills in a tight tee shirt very nicely:icon_jawdrop:. She was my favorite hot hot hot tamale politician Mayra Flores came along, now AOC is a distant 2nd.

Well, she's hot in the sense that when you line her up with all these really old politicians - which is nearly all of them - then in comparison, yeah she stands out and looks good in THAT group. But take her out of the septuagenarian crowd and put her in - oh, I dunno - a PTA meeting at my school? She just sorta blends in. And I should point out that most of the parents there - in an elementary although we do K-8 - are about her age. She has from what I've seen just an average butt, nothing special. If she does stand out in looks, it's only because she's - well, how do I put it? Unique-looking - and by that I mean her teeth. In that sense she stands out and is noticeable. And in that sense, is she hot? Well, it depends on if you're into that kinda stuff or not. When I first started, there was a teacher who was seriously into feet. I thought it was odd, but that was his thing - and I didn't have tenure yet, so it's not like I could say anything. He's gotta be long retired now, and likely dead. But again, I digress ...

This is likely just me but with one exception - I've never thought of famous people as being good-looking, and never had a crush on anyone I saw on TV or the movies. I figured early on that they were all just fake and that whatever we say was lighting and makeup - and nowadays filters and photoshop. Whenever I had a crush on someone or thought somebody was cute, it was always someone I actually knew.

MTG was commenting on the idea that America doesn't make anything in America and she noted how she bought a TV that was a built in antenna, she then mentions how she doesn't know where antenna is that builds the TV.

I have seen very few people on the left defend her — much less cheer her on.

But sure, whatever you need to tell yourself.
