I got my car insurance through my credit union and I did it all by phone. The guy I talked to was working from home.

That’s the way a ton of companies are doing. We are about to see a major shift is several markets and industries.

Along with the upcoming automation wave that is coming in the transportation sector I don’t know if we — as a country — are ready for it.

3.6% and rising. It is a lagging number.

But they’re still insuring Californians, just gotta buy it online.

You're right. They have. Why? The regulations of the state of CA. Which actually supports the assertion of the OP. Which obviously impacts all of these small businesses, and frankly the weight of the CA local regs has forced GEICO to make these changes. I'm sure the 2.18M policy holders in CA support your caustic indifference. Do you suppose that the nice folks of CA deserved their fate?

I haven't met an insurance agent face to face since 2007. There's simply no need. That's going to be a much bigger incentive to shutter an office than the state of the current economy, where people need insurance just as much as they ever did.

    That's 3.6% since March 2022.

There are over 11 million jobs to be filled in the country and only 3 million unemployed.

Even if there is a slight recession this fall, the employment sector will remain extremely strong.

Seems to me that if you need to close offices then the most logical place to close them is in the most expensive state to have them in.

The unemployment rate only counts people looking for work.

They will hire employees in more business friendly states. Another example of why hearing "the government is here to help" means you're screwed.

There are over 11 million jobs available.

The country is experiencing a severe labor shortage.

Do you understand what I just wrote or are you going to try to make me believe that a 3.6% unemployment rate is not good for the country?

How does what you wrote factor into the unemployment number only counting people looking for work?

If a business has no physical location in a state many employer laws and taxes no longer apply.

Exactly. Thats why businesses have been fleeing CA to more business friendly states. Here in CA, the government watches your back. (As you leave!)

This made me google longest running business out of curiosity (see below). It makes you wonder what companies today will be here in lets say 200 years.

As of 2021, the Japanese construction company Kongō Gumi, founded in 578 C.E is the oldest existing company worldwide, and has operated for around 1443 years.Jun 21, 2022

Geico hasn't left CA. It's going virtual, online.

Because people who aren't looking for work in the context of the labor shortage simply don't want to work.

Exactly. CA did not chase geico away; they chased the jobs away. If more states become like CA, your claim will be handled by someone in India.
