What's next? Banning the singing of patriotic songs like the National Anthem? Getting rid of Independence Day? Believe it or not, Americans can value freedom and also want to show patriotism, (displaying the flag, saying the pledge and singing songs that celebrate their country's UNITY).

Who said anything about banning? I said not compelling. Nobody here is saying you shouldn't be allowed to say your creepy pledge of obedience, or pray to whoever or whatever you want, or sing whatever you want. Just don't force or coerce it onto kids in public schools.

True. To put and keep mask mandates in place they should have to prove masks are effective and that by not wearing one you are putting lives at risk.

Much of teaching involves repetition. You don't think children have photographic minds, do you?

Well, it's painfully obvious after reading through this thread that the left has gone far off the deep end. They hate their country so much so that they are working to destroy it piece by piece.

Children should learn of their country, it’s history, culture and traditions.

Demanding they be loyal or pledge allegiance to it is when it becomes indoctrination.

you were perfectly fine with indoctrination, don’t try to fool yourself. You just want it to be your brand of indoctrination. If the country is so great then you wouldn’t need to instill that into children, they would learn it naturally.

Are you concerned about children actually learning where we stack up versus the rest of the first world in areas such as general happiness, income distribution, stress and workload, food insecurity, healthcare accessibility and education?

The pledge of allegiance takes about a minute to recite. Not much indoctrination going on in a minute of your day. How much time is spent on teaching our children that we are a racist Nation?

 

True but so what? The mandate should have good proven reason to exist. That doesn't mean all will understand it.

 

CRT isn't taught but rather a teaching method and paradigm. It's more a subject for teaching colleges than regular schools. If done correctly it should counter indoctrination.

 

It isn't how it takes that makes it anti-freedom. Simply saying "yes master I hear and obey and will not question" every morning would take even less time.

 

Authoritatism became part of the discussion. If you don't have a problem with one representation of it, then you shouldn't have a problem with another type.

 

Ok, I'm familiar with this talking point. I really wish we can get past it. It's a bogus claim.

 

This is one of my favourite lines so often heard in these squabbles. If you don't like what I like, leave , don't seek to improve it. Thing about that line is it should apply to both camps. "Don't like Obama or Biden being president? Why do you live here?" Etc.

We can see this line come and then vanish based on who is in power or who has the things as they want them at the current time. I remember during Bush it was "If you don't support our president you are a traitor; are you with us or against us" and then Obama years had that vanish immediately.
