    The $40,000 Cybertruck is Officially Dead (futurism.com)
    That's a real shame. I know I was looking forward to hearing a review of the Cybertruck from some relatives who are waiting for one. I have a 3-year lease on my car, and I'm thinking of looking at electric vehicles or hybrids for my next one.

    Teslas are so hot that people are paying for vehicles that aren't even built yet, and now they might cost more?!! Is this fraud? I feel like this is fraud.

    Aren't all new trucks costing more than 40k these days?

    I don't know. I was waiting for a review of the electrical aspect rather than the truck aspect. I don't know, but this is the sort of thing that gets people to cancel their orders. Especially in this economy.

    No. There are still some 2 wheel drive no frills versions coming in around $30K give or take....if you can find them. Most of our dealerships seem to be very thin on their inventory of anything new or used still. I noticed when I drove past the chevy dealership last week they maybe had a dozen trucks on the massive lot and a few cars, but mostly about 3 acres of hot asphalt.

    To be fair, it would be unrealistic to expect the price to remain the same even without the massive inflation of late. He deserves some credit for openly admitting it (and it takes a lot for me to say anything positive about Musk).

    I very much doubt they will have been stupid enough to tie themselves to a fixed price on a pre-order process. I suspect this is a case of making sure you read the small-print before signing anything. :cool:

    Yes, but I can tow my toy hauler hundreds of miles and a 7 minute stop at a fueling station instantly gives me hundreds more. Its nice to know I will not be left stranded at a camp sight because of a dead battery. Range is a big problem for this product.

    Three years ago would put it before COVID and all the supply chain and inflation issues that have occurred since then. A price increase would have been more newsworthy if it hadn't happened.

    I chuckled at the Futurism description of the thing as a "motorized trapezoid".

    and thats the problem with EVs I was looking into electric trucks like the rivion or the new f150 lightning, the instant huge amount of torque seems great for towing, but there is a bunch of videos online for towing with them and they get about 1/3 the mileage towing, so a 300 mile range drops down to 100, and you can quick charge up to 80% in 15-20 min so I would have to stop every hour for a ~20 min charge and that is based on if there was an actual level 3 charger on the route I'm going.. otherwise I'm looking at 5+ hours to charge all so I can stop again in about an hour and do it all over again..

    EVs have a long way to go before they can do what a gas or diesel truck can do..

    One idea is to standardize the batteries and have battery switching stations.

    yeah thats one idea I had as well, thats what I did as a kid with my RC car.. one battery was on the charger while I was using the other.. then switch them when it was dead..

    The problem is that the batteries are over 1000lbs in a typical EV so that creates its own set of problems, even if you redesign the battery to be in 4 sections and the computer pulls all the power out of one battery before switching over to the next one ,so if you only have 2 dead cells you just swap out 2 of them.. thats still 200-300lbs for each one. not an easy situation to deal with.
